Silfra is proud to serve modern nordic cuisine with purity, freshness, simplicity and ethics as a guiding light to represent everything that this part of the world has to offer above other.

The chefs at Silfra also emphasize in what is called “slow food” that can be simplified as food made from the freshest ingredients available that is originated in the neighbourhood of the hotel. The restaurant’s name derives from the Silfra rift in Lake Þingvellir.

The rift is the most popular diving site in Iceland, first of all because it the crack between the American and Eurasian continent and secondly because of the magnificent visibility that isn’t anywhere else under those circumstances. The kitchen is lead by our chefs Sindri Guðbjartur Sigurðsson and Þráinn Freyr Vigfússon.

Located between Eurasian and N-American tectonic plates, in the heart of Þingvellir National park (a UNESCO World Heritage site) you will find one of the world’s best-kept underwater secrets. Being an otherworldly scene Silfra fissure is frequently rated as one of the world’s top ten diving sites.

Before entering the clear water the dry suits are zipped tight and the goggles put on. The visibility is only limited by the density of the water itself and the crystal-clear water in the deep fissure gives you a feeling of being weightless as you float along with the lazy current.

Silfra snorkeling is a relaxing but exotic trip in an environment most will only encounter in their dreams. A pure underwater paradise.

We start this day tour by visiting the world’s oldest parliament, established in 930 and located in the serene national park of Þingvellir, a place of unparalleled natural beauty, a geological wonder and the location of many of Iceland´s most historical events.

Þingvellir is a World Heritage site, where the heart of the Icelandic nation beats. We will stroll through the Almannagjá gorge, which marks the eastern boundary on the North American Plate.

As we continue on our journey, we pass Lake Laugarvatn as we make our way to Haukadalur valley. This valley is known for geothermal activity and is the home of many geysers, like Geysir and Strokkur, to name a few. Here we are sure to see some spouting geysers, since the very active Stokkur goes off every few minutes.

Only a short distance from Geysir, lies the majestic Gullfoss waterfall, graceful 32m high waterfall. The water plummets down in two stages into a rugged canyon which walls reach up to 70 meters in height.

From there we head on out to the Langjökull glacier, the second largest glacier in Iceland, before we start making our way back. If you feel up for some more action the Golden Circle Tour is available with an additional snowmobile option. Check it out.

On this full day tour we head to the south coast for a glacier hike on Sólheimajökull for a glacier hike. We will visit Seljalandsfoss, a stunning waterfall that drops 60 m and originates from the Eyjafjallajökull glacier.

Sure-footed can walk behind the waterfall to get a different view of the surrounding. After that, we take you to Skógarfoss which is one of the country’s biggest waterfalls with a width of 25 meters (82ft). On a sunny day, the spray from the waterfall produces a single, or even double, rainbow.

Once we have reached the Sólheimajökull glacier edge, we get ready for a unique glacier hike on this beautiful and rugged glacier. We provide you with all the tools necessary, including ice axes, crampons and safety lines in order to assure your safety during this adventure.

After few hours on the glacier we drive to a magical black sand beaches of the Atlantic Ocean before return back after an adventurous day.

Northern lights is a common name for the Aurora Borealis (Polar Aurorae). The Northern Lights is a natural phenomenon found in the in the Northern Hemisphere.

The a natural light display in the sky, predominantly seen in the high latitude regions, is a collision between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth’s atmosphere. Truly awe inspiring Northern Lights is one of the biggest draws to visit Iceland during the winter months.

The Northern Lights tours are operated in the evening and will take you a bit more out into the open in search of the best light display.

Explore the inside of a unique dormant volcano that last erupted about 4,000 years ago. The tour starts with a about 45-60 minutes/3 km hike (each way), to the crater. When you’ve reached the crater you’ll decent 120m in an open cable lift into the giant crater once filled with steaming hot lava.

The beauty of the crater mostly consists in the various coloration found inside it and its enormous. The ground space is equivalent to almost three full-sized basketball courts planted next to each other and the height is such that it would easily fit full sized Statue of Liberty into the chamber. It’s huge!

Þríhnúkagígur crater is an exceptional place as generally the magma chambers collapse after an eruption. It is one of very few places in the world where you can actually enter a volcano’s magma chamber.

From Gullfoss waterfall we drive in super jeeps into the highlands to the snowmobile base where we provide the gear needed, helmet, winter overall and gloves, to make sure you are safe and warm on the snowmobile activity.

Before we hit the throttle a certified snowmobile guide will teach you all the basic and show you have to safely before we head out for an hour snowmobile adventure. During the snowmobile ride to a natural ice cave and spend about 15 minutes exploring all that the caves has to offer.

The glacier is roughly parallel to the direction of the country’s active volcanic zone: north-east to south-west. Under Langjökull there are two or more volcanic systems.

The area of the glacier includes some mountains, e.g. Mt. Skriðufell and Jarlhettur (“The earl’s hat”) on the east side of Langjökull, a palagonitic mountain range, which originated in a fissure vent under a glacier during Ice Age.

On a clear day we can even see Eiríksjökull glacier, the dome-shaped Hofsjökull glacier and Kerlingafjöll Mountain range rest in the distance.
