Tucked away in the cherry orchard and with its own private terrasse, this suite holds everything needed for comfort and well-being, spacious with a decor that is both intimate and traditional.

There is the bedroom with its large double bed sitting beneath a wood-beamed cathedral ceiling, a mezzanine with its shelves full of books of art, and a fireplace in the bedroom. The spacious bathroom has a traditional cast-iron bath and a large shower made of Carrara marble. THE DOVECOTE SUITE
This is a duplex suite of 90 m2 which has been specially designed in the old dovecote to recreate a unique and typically Normandy ambiance, where comfort, elegance and originality are key.

This suite comprises all the fittings necessary for your comfort and well-being, with plenty of space and a décor that is both intimate and traditional. The bedroom with its double bed is positioned beneath a wooden framed ceiling of over 6m in height, a cathedral-like roof that is a veritable architectural wonder.

Outside the cottage you can enjoy a small private garden of 1,500 m2 with a south-facing terrace, bordered by agapanthus and box hedging, allowing you to relax in the heart of the Normandy countryside.

Located in the heart of Normandy in beautiful Honfleur, Le Clos de Grâce is 5 minutes by car from the centre of Honfleur.  Each suites are decorated with fine materials and fabrics in warm tones. The style of our prestigious Guesthouse is “Elegance” with a warm and homely ambiance.

The Val la Reine is an estate with a long history. In 1652, Thibault MOULIN, a ship’s captain and Honfleur resident began the long job of joining together many pieces of land around the village of Equemauville, thus creating the estate of the Val la Reine, of which he became the owner.

In 1727, he built the Manor. His son, Olivier Moulin, a merchant-trader and alderman of the government of Honfleur would inherit it and continue the expansion of the estate. The Warrain family became the owners of the Val la Reine in 1888 until 2000, the year when Michel Serrault and his wife acquired it and lived there for about ten years.

Heloise and Olivier Moncelet took over and restored this elegant Estate in 2010, with the intention of creating luxurious guest rooms. The main manor house remains their family home but the surrounding buildings are open for their guests. In 2016 Heloise and Olivier entrust the management of their estate to Louise and Sukru, a young couple who also work in the hotel trade.

In a warm and friendly atmosphere (with the family or friends) discover various seasonal recipes during one of the cooking lessons propose by Jérôme Billochon, a renowned pastry chef from Honfleur. The cooking classes are interactive and take place in the kitchen of the Clos de Grâce.

THE SWIMMING POOL
Le Clos de Grace enjoys all year round a super indoor swimming pool heated at 29°C. Large bay windows offer a superb view of the Normandy countryside.

SPA POM
The Domaine de Villeray has a dedicated relaxation space- The Spa Pom. Its name is a tribute to Normandy’s signature product- apple.

HISTORY
Once upon a time, this gorgeous 17th century farmhouse was a place abounding with new ideas and perspectives. In around the year 1840, several young artists sojourned within its illustrious walls.

Thanks to the warm welcome they received from “Mother Toutain,” the innkeeper at the time, this flock of young painters, hungry for nature and fresh, country air, produced a number of exceptional pieces of artwork which are treasured today.

These extraordinary encounters gave rise to the famous Impressionist School of Honfleur, otherwise known as the School of Saint Siméon.

Painters have always worked outside, if only to provide a stage for their representations. Eventually one realized that a landscape could be picturesque, worthy of being portrayed all by itself, and thereby express the sensitivity and emotion of the artist.

This taste for nature first appeared with English painters, who came to the French countryside for inspiration to feed their talent. But soon these artist gatherings would bear witness to a trend that was quickly gaining steam, namely that of the love for outdoor pictorial art.

A stunning view: The Seine Estuary…The immense and magnificent river, the sea and its shifting horizons, a constant mist; a prism bathed with swaying brightness, decomposed colors, and clouds that roll in clear blue or the softest of grays, sometimes leaden, always improbable.

Sudden gusts, runoff from light-filled rain showers, flowing yellows and ochers…The marvel of these unpredictable scenes, sought after so dearly by our young artists, today more than ever the darlings of the arts. Air, water, light…Moments.

To everyone’s greatest delight, these children of the light met and mingled at the Saint Siméon Farm, where the charitable Mother Toutain, as early as 1825, could not think of any other way to be a pleasant hostess than to lavishly spoil and treat them to all the scrumptious recipes to which only she held the secret, and which forged the reputation of her Norman kitchen.

The small group of painters, longing for nature and obsessed with the sea and its panoramas, gathered at this most welcoming of inns. There was Boudin, Jongkind, Corot, Courbet, Bazille, Monet, and so many other talents which have gone forgotten, Daubigny, Dubourg, Isabey, Lebourg, Troyon…

The list goes on and on! Happy and well-fed, their thirsts quenched with delicious ciders and other fruity calvados, the artists went on to produce several works, one as beautiful as the other.

The result was an extensive production which can be found today in the most exquisite museums in France (Orsay, Eugène Boudin Museum, Musée Malraux) or during estate settlements in the world’s biggest auction houses.

A passage from the famous poet and Honfleur native Lucie Delarue Mardrus, who used words the same way others used touches of colorful pastels, provides a better idea of the Inn today…

“There’s something wonderful in the air on the Côte de Grâce. It’s that the Estuary is over there, with its colors of the rainbow. You see it at the end of a large valley, between the dark-hued branches of the magnificent trees; there are sailboats in the Estuary, setting suns, one over the other in the distance at low tide in the glossy mud, admirable, local; a beauty that comes close to the whites and pinks of spring, to royal autumns, stripped of leaves, with withered flowers on the hilly lawns we walk across; all set under circular clouds and flat blue skies, mist, rain…”

We might also consider the words written by Monet to his friend Bazille: “Every day I discover new things which are more beautiful than those from the day before. It’s enough to make one giddy.”

Today, as in the past, the breathtaking Saint Siméon Farm maintains its position of prestige by continuing to watch over its Estuary, as if raising itself up to get a better glimpse of the water and air which will blend together under our enchanted gazes for all of eternity.

The various building structures remain in place, with the farm itself in the bluish green reflections of its slate coat, the timber-studded pavilion, where people and animals once mingled, and the marvelous thatched cottage facing them, under its straw hat.

Once painted by Monet, it was also an eyewitness to the “Saint Siméon meetings,” when Boudin, a child of the country, trained Monet and the others from their small group during neverending discussions, and when these same men drank apple brandy during breaks from their painting.

SUITE
Spacious and bright, our most beautiful suite located on the 2nd floor of Le Pressoir offers an unforgettable panorama over the Seine estuary.

You will be particularly seduced by this 61m² space and its living room with fireplace, whose refined and sophisticated decor is inspired by luxurious traditional fabrics, with antique wooden furniture and herringbone parquet flooring.

JUNIOR SUITE
These “small” suites are a truly romantic choice in the Historic House or our Pressoir building. For one, cathedral ceiling and beams, windows open from east to west to follow the path of the sun.

A small intimate entrance, a beautiful lounge area, the bed facing the light. Lie back on the bed and look up to admire the light cast by the marvelous Venetian glass chandelier.

For the other, a view across the garden and the Seine, cozy living room and separate bedroom, with oak woodwork, bathroom in soft shades of white marble. A nice balance between contemporary furniture and family antiques.

DELUXE ROOM
A magnificent option with a view over the Seine or our gardens! All these Deluxe rooms have pleasant volumes with warm woodwork, sometimes under the eaves. The light of the Estuary and the gardens floods in.

Two of the rooms in the Main House are historic, one was the one always chosen by the painter Claude Monet and the other, acclaimed by the painter Camille Corot. In our Pavilion, the Deluxe rooms with their large attic and pleasant lounge area open onto the marvelous gardens of apple trees.

On the Pressoir side, these rooms are equipped with a balneo bath, as well as a balcony or terrace to fully enjoy your getaway to Honfleur. You will be seduced by this beautiful space, ideal for long stays. Relax and enjoy the beauty of skies and seas blending together.

SUPERIOR ROOM
Take the exterior stairs of the Pavilion, between the half-timbering and the apple trees, to access some of them directly.

For others, let yourself be driven under the eaves, in the warmth of the mansard beams, with an unfettered view of the flower gardens. In the Pressoir building, the superior rooms have the same charm as the previous ones. Some of them have a terrace or a balcony.

GASTRONOMIC RESTAURANT

Massage, treatments and emotions, these are the 3 passions that Patricia, our Spa manager, have successfully combined for 6 years and which have enabled her to win the gold medal for Best Spa practitioner in France in 2017, and the title of French massage champion in 2019.

From her earliest childhood, she massaged her sisters and dolls. Growing up, she discovered a gift of magnetism and oriented her career towards well-being, by becoming a practitioner therapist, specializing in muscle massages and reiki (therapeutic technique of care and energy healing by the hands).

History of la Chenevière
In the 17th century, La Chenevière was an immense property dedicated to the cultivation of hemp which was used to make rope and clothing for fishermen. In the 18th century, the property came into the hands of the Gosset family, who built a large house and gradually made the farm the heart of their vast estate holdings.

Beginning in 1880, Gustave and then Pierre Gosset decided to develop the farm and to undertake a number of improvements to the residential premises: another storey was added, as were wooden balconies and a veranda.

Although the Château today possesses only the memory of those structures, thanks to a number of period photographs, it has however retained the large stables – now converted into guest rooms – which were built in that era to house the estate’s broodmares and foals, that were reared and weaned here before being sent to the Haras de Barbeville, a stud farm owned by the Foy family who prepared them for the famous yearling sales in Deauville.

During the Second World War, the estate was occupied by the Germans. Beginning in 1940, an administrative unit lived on the property whose facilities were able to accommodate 70 to 80 horses.

The soldiers of the Third Reich stayed in the outbuildings although, at times, a few officers would live in the main house. La Chenevière became the headquarters of high-ranking German officers. Telecommunications posts were established there, and many trucks, motorcycles and cars were stored on-site.

During the night of 4 to 5 June 1944 on the Château’s property, Armand Lapierre, a member of the Réseau Alliance network, would participate in the “Grande Coupure”, that aimed to destroy the German lines of communication around La Chenevière before the Allied landing on 6 June 1944.

A commemorative plaque in his honour was unveiled on 4 June 2016 in the Château’s park. By the time of the landing, there were no more Germans in the house, and the Royal Army Service Corps would take over from there.

The village of Port-en-Bessin and La Chenevière became the point of passage for the fuel which was necessary for the continuation of military operations. Pipes were installed, including a half-dozen around the property, that crossed through Port-en-Bessin to the town of Commes where the tanks were located.

Troops transiting through the mulberry harbour at Arromanches could refuel their vehicles at a pumping station behind the house. In 1988, the Château was purchased by Marie-Françoise and Thomas Dicker after 133 years in the Gosset family.

Together, they decided to transform this charming location brimming with history into a prestige hotel which they named La Chenevière (“The Hemp Field”), in homage to the nickname given to the building during its early farming days, “la chenevrotte” (“hemp chaff”).

That same year, the hotel was certified and assigned a four-star ranking. Four years later, in 1992, the manor/restaurant joined the Small Luxury Hotels of the World. In 2014, La Chenevière earned its fifth star. It will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2018.

Le Botaniste Restaurant

Refined, inventive and seasonal, Chef Didier Robin’s cuisine invites you to a fine dining experience, Normandy style. Creations with subtle flavours to enjoy with one of the wines from our cellar, hand-picked by our sommelier from amongst the best vintages.

At the fine dining restaurant Le Botaniste, Head Chef Didier Robin and his culinary team prepare upscale dishes made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Vegetables, fruits and herbs all come from the hotel’s permaculture vegetable garden.

Fish, seafood and lobster are all sourced from the local port, Port-en-Bessin, located down the road while meats come from Normandy’s best farmers. The hotel’s pastry chef also prepares seasonal yet creative desserts and always makes sure that there is at least one gluten free or vegan option on the menu.

The restaurant is only open for dinner and serves a seasonal set menu with either 3 or 4 dishes. A vegetarian option is always on offer. A private dining-room is available for hire for group bookings and the restaurant can also be privatised for lunch for special events.

Wine-bar
Our Sommelier has more than 300 French wine and Champagne references in his wine cellar but also offers a selection of wine pairings by the glass to accompany your meal while you dine at the restaurant.

At the restaurant’s bar, our mixologist serves creative cocktails with local ingredients, including herbs from the garden and house-made syrups. Cocktails are served with appetizers and can either be enjoyed in our cosy bar or on our terrace, while admiring our garden.

Breakfast
Breakfast is served daily from 7am to 10am in our fine-dining restaurant Le Botaniste. The buffet includes different pastries and breads from our local baker, as well as jams and honey from our very own beehives.

In a romantic, rustic setting, Le Petit Jardin awaits you in La Chenevière’s old conservatory. The menu focuses on fresh, high-quality products, all locally sourced or from the château’s permaculture vegetable garden. Le Petit Jardin is open for lunch and dinner.

Le Petit Jardin is the hotel’s casual restaurant which is open for lunch and dinner. The main dining room is located inside the hotel’s old conservatory. Outdoor seating is also available in the garden for some sunny alfresco dining. Head chef, Hugo Genty also uses ingredients sourced in our vegetable garden.

Dinner is à la carte and includes popular dishes like the crab cake or local beef burgers with house made fries. A barbecue lunch is served every Sunday during the summer season.

The restaurant offers a selection of organic wines and delectable cocktails, also served with fresh herbs from the garden. Guests can also enjoy after-dinner herbal teas made with fresh herbs from our garden before going back to their rooms and suites.

The Park

The permaculture vegetable garden of La Chenevière provides fresh herbs, fruits and vegetables to both restaurants. The home-cultivated honey served at the breakfast buffet comes directly from the hives of the chateau and is also available for sale.

The pool
With its deck chairs, parasols, palm trees and more, the Château’s pool area will welcome you in a lush green setting. The outdoor pool is heated from May to September and also has a children’s pool.

La Chenevière has its own authorized helipad. Not only can newlyweds make a stunning arrival for their wedding reception at the Château, but it is also a stopping or starting point for helicopter tours which fly over the WWII landing beaches, the beaches at Arromanches and Deauville, the town of Honfleur, the city of Le Havre, and Normandy Bridge. An original way to admire the region from above.

Fête des Plantes

La Chenevière celebrates springtime with an annual tribute to nature. Flowers, petals and buds will all be in attendance for the Flower Show. Some 30 exhibitors from across France will be hosted in the 2 hectare park, in front of garden lovers who have been greatly looking forward to this new edition.

Bayeux

Located 10 kilometres from La Chenevière, Bayeux is famous for its 11th century tapestry which tells the story of the conquest of England by William the Conqueror in 1066.

In addition to this exquisite piece, inscribed on UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register in 2007, the town also possesses a rich and well-preserved architectural heritage. Its medieval historical centre contains half-timbered houses, manors with towers, grand homes and elegant private mansions.

You won’t want to miss the Cathedral of Our Lady of Bayeux, a Norman gem where Romanesque and Gothic architecture intermingle. Odo had the famous Bayeux Tapestry embroidered to decorate the nave of the cathedral.

Bayeux is also home to a number of memory spaces associated with the Second World War, three museums, a botanical garden and a lovely promenade along the banks of the Aure which offers an original way to discover the town and its heritage.

The D-Day landing beaches

From La Chenevière, you can set off to explore the coast of the Bessin region, where you will find the WWII landing beaches, a must-see tourist destination. In the centre of the landing zone, Arromanches has preserved the remains of the mulberry harbour.

A little further along, the Normandy American Cemetery overlooks Omaha Beach (stretching from Colleville-sur-Mer to Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer). The Pointe du Hoc promontory, before Utah Beach, and Sainte-Mère-Église are some of the other sites marked by the Allied landing in Normandy on 6 June 1944.

All of them have a museum or memorial dedicated to that great moment in history. They retrace the whole story of D-Day, from its preparation to the actual event.

You will also find a series of testaments to the past: uniforms and personal belongings, vehicles, cannons, archive photographs, and more. The hotel can organize guided tours of the landing beaches by sedan, Jeep, dune buggy or quad bike.

Honfleur and The Impressionists

Honfleur makes for a lovely stop along the Flowery Coast. Its docks and harbours, Sainte-Catherine Church, its old streets and typical house, and Notre-Dame Chapel, not to mention the hospice and lighthouse, the shipyard and the Seine Estuary all served as inexhaustible sources of inspiration for painters beginning in the 1820s.

A real artists’ community formed there, around Boudin, Jongkind and Monet in particular. Some would readily say that the small Norman port is in fact the birthplace of impressionism!

Today, you can still admire the sites depicted by 19th century artists, particularly the Old Harbour, the church, and the Saint Siméon Farmhouse Inn above town where all the painters would gather together, along with musicians, poets, writers and more.

Deauville, Trouville et Cabourg

The “Flowery Coast” refers to the Norman coast where the English Channel laps at the Pays d’Auge. Its name recalls the pleasant inland countryside, as well as the many seaside resorts scattered at the water’s edge.

The most famous and elegant of these, Deauville, is just as captivating today as it was in the past. Many a summer visitor is attracted to its mythical boardwalk, its horse races, its sale of yearlings each August, its polo tournaments and its American Film Festival in early September.

The more family-friendly seaside resort town of Trouville-sur-Mer is right next to Deauville. After enjoying the pleasures of the beach, take advantage of its lively fishing port to cool down with some ice cream or a cold beverage.

Cabourg owes its reputation to the famous people it has hosted with, first and foremost, Proust, whose memory has left its mark on the small resort town. Like Trouville, it is known for its incredible, splendid array of architectural styles.

Members of the seventh art come together each year for the Film Festival, the Romantic Days and European Days at Cabourg.

Culinary visits

The region of Normandy invites you to discover its products. During your escapes in the hinterland, don’t hesitate to stop off and visit the local farmers and producers. Normandy is a fertile land for the apple and pear trees lining its roads.

Their fruit supplies the region’s cider-works and distilleries where you can sample apple juice, hard cider, perry, pommeau and calvados.

On the plains, the hedged farmland and the hilly green prairies, Norman cows produce quality milk, used to make famous AOC cheeses like Camembert, Livarot and Pont l’Eveque, but also Isigny cream and butter. Many cheesemakers will open their doors to explain all the secrets of their production processes.

Along the coast, oyster farmers will take you on guided tours of their oyster beds where they cultivate the famous cupped oysters. You can even go to the fish auction hall to buy your fish caught the night before.

A few gardens

A land of nature, Calvados boasts several remarkable gardens worth a look by visitors. The Botanical Garden in Caen, a veritable museum of plants, is home to more than 8,000 species and includes an exotic greenhouse.

The gardens of the Château de Vendeuvre stand out for their water-based theme. Nearby Bayeux, the Castillon Gardens and their series of theme gardens extend an invitation for a peaceful stroll.

The gardens of the Château de Brécy are a gorgeous example of terraced formal gardens, unique in Normandy. In Balleroy, visit the Garden of the Forgotten, preferably in June, to admire the Norman heirloom roses there.

Discover the architecture of Normandy in the Pays d’Auge Gardens in Cambremer. Considered one of the jewels of Calvados, the gardens of Mézidon-Canon are the site of charterhouses and walled gardens which are unique in France.

Lastly, the gardens of the Château de Boutemont, to the north of Lisieux, are some of the most beautiful in Calvados.

More Chateaux to visit

Follow in the footsteps of William of Conqueror along the Bessin coast where fortified farms, abbeys, medieval fortresses and manor houses are legion. From the Ducal Château de Caen to William the Conqueror’s château in Falaise, relive the epic saga of this local hero.

Dive into the Middle Ages at the Château de Crèvecœur-en-Auge where a week of activities is held each year during the Medieval Fair.

At the Manoir d’Argouges, a rare architectural complex in a mix of medieval and Renaissance styles, let yourself be swept away by the owner on a journey outside of time as you learn about the age-old legend of the Fairy of Argouges.

Enthusiasts can continue that journey through history and architecture by visiting the Château de Balleroy, designed by architect François Mansart, the Renaissance Château de Fontaine-Henry with its gorgeous sculpted façades, and the Châteaux de Bénouville, Pontécoulant and Vendeuvre, 18th century creations.

Lastly, to admire the most Norman of all the châteaux in Calvados, head for Saint-Germain-de-Livet, to the south of Lisieux.

The history of the Château d’Audrieu is closely linked to the history of Normandy and its most famous representative, William the Conqueror. He became William II of Normandy in 1035 after the death of his father.

He turned Normandy into a powerful duchy, which was independent of the Kingdom of France. Following his victory at the Battle of Hastings, William became King of England in 1066.

His epic is illustrated by the Bayeux Tapestry, a precious embroidery from the 11th century, which is listed on the Memory of the World register by the UNESCO and preserved in the William the Conqueror Centre in the town of Bayeux. The Chateau d’Audrieu listed as a Historical Monument, remains unchanged.

However, inside, the architect Philippe de Lanouvelle, in charge of the renovation of the château and in agreement with the new management, made the decision to “rejuvenate” the whole interior whilst both enhancing the spirit of the time when the Château was built (1715) and improving comfort.

“Firstly, we took our inspiration from period colours and drawings that can be found in some re-editions of Frey or Canovas fabrics.

Therefore, in the rooms, instead of having the same paint on all four walls, we have chosen to place Jouy wall covering fabrics on the wall where the headboard is and on one other wall, which gives a tapestry effect.

The rest is extremely simple in order to avoid changing the original style of the château” explains Philippe de Lanouvelle. The Château d’Audrieu is furnished with classical background furniture inspired by the 17th and 18th centuries, with reference to its history and tradition.

This furniture is completed with traditional seats from the Jean-Pierre Besse manufacture in the Vosges region, thus perpetuating the know-how of French cabinet-making.

A timeless, relaxing environment
A magnificent park, the charm of the “white garden”, the aromas of the vegetable garden and a calm swimming pool on the edge of a forest.

The Château d’Audrieu rejoices in a 50 acres park and 12 acres of gardens landscaped in 1985 by the landscaper Louis Benech. They include a jardin à la française (French formal garden), an English garden, the “white garden”, the “rose garden” and a vegetable garden.

Alain Scelles, the gardener, started working at the Château as a trainee 27 years ago! This part of the domain has been completely preserved.

After a few steps into the Cour d’Honneur, the park appears as a harmonious jewel, with its two prominent pavilions, with French style flowerbeds in a refined, charming, unobtrusively luxurious setting and the endearing conviviality of property of character.

The English style park comprises tricentennial trees including numerous species: beeches, oaks, ashes, chestnuts and cedars. This magnificent park offers over three kilometres of alleys where you can have a stroll and relax, while listening to the birds sing.

Two of the three rooms have also been decorated with grey, whilst the central room, the “sanctuary of gastronomy” according to the Chef Olivier Barbarin, is completely red from the walls up to the ceilings and the damask curtains.

The Bar Le 1715
The bar, which used to be on the ground floor, is now located on the first floor of the château in an air-conditioned lounge, a comfortable area with ancient decoration. All the original oak panelling has been preserved.

Cocktail delights
The “1715” bar offers a large range of whiskies, white and rosé champagnes from wine-producers by the glass, as well as traditional and creative cocktails. These are served with petits fours concocted by the Chef so that guests can build their appetite before the gourmet dinner in the “Le Séran” restaurant.

Open daily
Throughout the entire day, le “1715” offers drinks and snacks in the large lounge, a worthy reminder of classical architecture, that plays with light.

At the end of the evening, the setting lends itself perfectly to the tasting of Calvados, Cognac, Armagnac etc. The bar also proposes tastings for two or three of the best Calvados on the menu.

Meet the Chef
Since March 2009, Olivier Barbarin is in charge of the gastronomy of the Château d’Audrieu. He started out cooking as an apprentice alongside d’Antoine Sachapt.

Then he continued his journey with famous French Chefs, including Pierre Orsi*, Dominique Toulousy**, Roland Mazère**, Jean-Claude Leclerc*, Michel Hulin*, Jean-André Charial**, Olivier Brulard**.

A balance between passion and gourmandism
Olivier Barbarin’s creativity, influenced by his travels and his natural curiosity, allows him to intensify the products of the terroir and Normandy in his guests’ plates by enhancing flavours, textures and colours for a big moment of gastronomy!

By working closely with the gardener of the property, the Chef creates a new menu every two months, in harmony with the seasonal products of the vegetable garden.

THE ROOMS
The rooms are all different, tailored for relaxation in a warm atmosphere. Each room offers a unique feeling with warm and natural colors with wooden furniture. The bathrooms are all made with granite and natural stone.

COCOON ROOMS
The turquoise blue and turquoise green rooms are both under the roof and are reached by taking a stone staircase. Both attic rooms are cosy and have an open bathroom with a freestanding bathtub (toilets are of course separate). Very bright, one as a view on the manor and the other one on the fields and the church.

CLASSIC ROOMS
The linden green room, on the first floor of the house, has an oak desk and is accessible for disabled persons. The room has a bathroom with a granite Italian shower and a south-facing private terrace.

The romantic pink room offers a view on the fields. It is a room with soft colors and light furniture which create a relaxing atmosphere. The room has a bathroom with Italian shower.

The honey orange room offers a view on the terrace and has a big oak desk and a bathroom with Italian shower. The mimosa yellow room invites you to laziness with its meridian, or to writing with its desk corner, under one of the roof trusses. The open bathroom of the cotton room gives you a glimpse of the bathtub and the huge Italian shower which is hidden behind the vintage basin (toilets are separate). The natural colors of the room allows you to rest.

More modern, the fuchsia room welcomes you into a warm and contemporary atmosphere with a view on the fields and a bathroom with Italian shower.

To reach the spacious bedroom of the marine blue suite, you have to walk through the lounge. Very bright thanks to its three dormer windows with a view on the manor, the suite has a separate bathroom with a bathtub and separate toilets.

The pale green suite has a salon-bureau you have to walk through to reach the spacious and cosy bedroom. The bathroom with a bathtub offers a view on the fields and the bedroom offers a view on the manor.

THE CHEF’S TABLE
Our chef, Jordan, is delighted to cook creative gourmet and seasonal cuisine for you. The table is open on Thursday, Friday, Saturday evenings and holiday eve, and all evenings (except Tuesday) in July and August. The table must be booked at least 24 hours in advance. The restaurant is accessible to handicaped guests.

THE TABLE
With our Chef, Jordan, you will discover seasonal and creative gourmet cuisine in a warm and modern atmosphere. He develops his cuisine around seasonal products to delight the eyes and taste buds of her guests.

The pleasure of enjoying a friendly setting, gathering around the table to share authentic dishes, plunging back into memories and being welcomed as a friend’s. The philosophy of the kitchen is similar to the spirit of the Manor, a spirit that can be summed up in one word: “simplicity”.

Behind that word, there is a high demand of the « quality of the products” and “short circuits”. These two criteria are the basis of a good table: “what interests us is the taste.”

There is only one menu, the menu of the day, which reflects changes of the market moods and revolves around a starter, a main course, a cheese plate and a dessert. Slide your feet under the table, and let us “pamper you” over a delicious meal made just for you…

THE CHEF
Since he was a child, Jordan likes to go the the market on Saturday mornings with his father. Then, he spends the day cooking everything he bought in the morning : Beef bourguignon, stews and other French traditional meals…

The market is where Jordan draws his inspiration from, where he discovers, tries, transforms and develops his creativity. A traineeship at the age of 15 allows him to discover the art of cooking, it is an epiphany : he applies to the CFA (formation center for trainees) and gets trained in cooking for 4 years.

Then, he takes his first steps as a cook at the Origine (a Michelin-star restaurant in Rouen) for one year and at the Hostellerie d’Acquigny for two years, where he ends us as Chef Éric Georget’s sous chef.

Jordan’s cooking is above all seasonal, creative and gourmet. His inspiration? Thanks to a technique of digital pressures on areas corresponding to each of your organs. The reflexology brings a deep relaxation. It repairs and activates the natural functions of regulation of the body.

Our reflexologist, Laurie, offers you to discover reflexology through two types of care:

• A reflexology treatment based solely on plantar reflexology: Each session begins with a few minutes interview, during which the person exposed to the reflexologist his health and expectations. The reflexologist proposes a protocol of care of relaxation or stimulation according to the needs of the person. After 30 to 45 minutes of care, the session ends with a time of exchange on the feelings of the person allowing him to calmly resume his spirits.
• A “reflex relaxation massage”: Facial and cranial reflexology, combined with plantar reflexology. This is a reflex relaxation and stimulation technique that involves exerting pressure on specific points of the face, skull and feet. It aims to relieve pain and tension and can relieve many stress-related disorders.

Reflexology has some contraindications that it is important to respect. Our reflexologist will not be able to take you in session in case of thrombosis, phlebitis, or during the first trimester of pregnancy

A CASTLE IN THE SAME FAMILY FOR A THOUSAND YEARS
The owners of the chateau, Count and Countess de Kergorlay and their children Marie-Victoire and Henry-Louis are the descendants of some of William the Conqueror’s companions and their family includes many leading figures whose names have been given to several suites in the chateau, among whom the Empress Joséphine who was Napoléon’s first wife and a close cousin of the family of the Countess.

One of the ancestors of the Kergorlays was the son in law of famous Charles Carroll of Carrollton who signed the American Declaration of Independence.

THE PARK, THE GARDENS AND THE LAKES
The park, which comprises English and French gardens, provides the guests with the opportunity to go for many different and fascinating walks around the ponds to watch the colony of swans that live there, in the vegetable garden, through the woods along the paths leading to a valley.

In the Empire Suite, the spirit of a grand bygone era resides amidst resplendent details and evokes the age of Napoleon, Emperor of France, and his wife Josephine de Beauharnais, a cousin of the family of Comtesse Marie Christine. The bathroom is a faithful recreation of the former Hotel de Beauharnais in Paris.

The Polignac Suite celebrates the Restoration and the Princess de Polignac, close friend of Marie Antoinette. The last Prince, Guy de Polignac Bailli of the order of Malta was a close friend of the Kergorlay family and often stayed at the Chateau.

Thanks to its location half way between the landing beaches of Omaha, Utah, Sword, etc. and the Mont Saint-Michel, Canisy makes it possible to go on many tours that can planned by the chateau staff for each guest, with or without the assistance of a guide.

Crossing the bay of the Mont Saint-Michel on foot or on horseback (with a guide) is an unforgettable moment. The Channel is 30 minutes away, which makes it easy to go for long walks on the endless soft sand beaches or to observe the highest spring tide phenomenon.

Canisy is 45 minutes way from the port of Granville, from which you can take a ferry to the picturesque Chausey Islands.

MONT SAINT-MICHEL
Mont Saint Michel is a marvel of Western civilization and a World Heritage treasure, founded over 1,300 years ago after the fiery Archangel St Michel appeared to a bishop in a vision.

It is one of the world’s best preserved examples of medieval architecture and a humbling place to visit, whatever your creed. Over 3 million people visit each year to see its Abbey and Ramparts and to celebrate Mass.

This UNESCO site is also where Mère Poulard, the famous chef, founded her inn in 1888 and created famed dishes such as the omelet that bears her name.

D-DAY BEACHES
Discover the famed beaches where thousands of young Allied soldiers gave their lives to turn the tide of World War 2 in a series of history’s most decisive and important battles.

The Normandy invasion is also the stuff of Hollywood legend: stride Omaha Beach for yourself, setting of Steven Spielberg’s ‘Saving Private Ryan’, or visit the 82nd and 101st Airborne Drop Zones made famous recently by the series ‘Band of Brothers’.

D-Day Festival Normandy is also offering each year in may/june a program of festive events for the anniversary of the Allied Landings.

THE BAYEUX TAPESTRY
Listed as a “Memory of the World” by UNESCO, the Bayeux Tapestry is a hand-embroidered masterpiece over 70m long created in the 11th century to celebrate the conquest of England by William, Duke of Normandy.

It is thought to have been made by monks in the region, and records the events of the Battle of Hastings on October 14th, 1066 with a little bit of artistic license.

Fantastic animals, magnificent ships and dragoons of troops under Viking, Norman and Saxon standards do battle, each stitch vivid with the feats that saw William vanquish Harold, another pretender to the English throne, and add ‘Conqueror’ to his moniker.

CHRISTIAN DIOR’S CHILDHOOD HOME
The childhood home of fashion maven Christian Dior stands on a windswept cliff facing the Channel Islands in Granville, Normandy, not far from Mont St Michel.

Villa Les Rhumbs was built by a ship owner in the late nineteenth century and was named after the old marine term ‘Rhumb’, into which wind or compass roses where divided. One such rose appears as a mosaic floor ornament in one of the house’s entrances.

Dior’s parents bought this grand house with its winter garden located in a park in 1905 and the avatar of French fashion later wrote that ‘my life and my style owe everything to its site and architecture’.

RENOWNED CHEESES, CIDER, CALVADOS…

Dairy & Calvados Farm Parts of Normandy consist of rolling countryside of patchwork, hedge-bounded farms known as ‘bocage’. These farms are usually pasture for dairy cattle or apple orchards.

A wide range of dairy products are produced and exported from Normandy, including renowned cheeses like Camembert, Livarot, Pont l’Évêque, Brillat-Savarin, Neufchâtel, Petit Suisse and Boursin.

The region is also a major cider producer, and its apple brandy, known as calvados, is famed far and wide. The mealtime trou normand or ‘Norman hole’ involves a pause between courses to quaff a glass of calvados, thought to aid digestion, cleanse the palatte and increase the appetite.

HARAS DU PIN
Normandy is justly famous for its horses and stud farms. Near the small town of Le Pin is the most famous and spectacular stud farm in all of France – the Haras du Pin, one of only two whose buildings are also listed on the French National Monuments register.

It was founded in 1665 and approved by Louis XIV in 1715. Besides horse breeding, Haras du Pin also features horse and carriage displays. France’s royal stud farms date back to the 17th century, and were set up to ensure a reliable supply of quality horseflesh for the army.

September and October also sees horse races at one of the France’s oldest and most prestigious racetracks, the Bergerie, near Le Pin.

OYSTERS
The oyster growers of Normandy produce about 25% of all the oysters in France. The area features over 2,713 acres of oyster cultivation parks. The region runs from the Belgium in the East, stretches westerly across the Cotentin Peninsula, and then South to the famous Cloister Mont-Saint-Michelle in northern Brittany.

What makes this region so attractive is that an oyster lover can sample oysters from at least four distinct “oyster terroirs” in close proximity. Each “terroir” (growing area) imparts a special taste nuance to its oysters.

The quality of Normandy’s oysters stems from the fact that the region benefits from the highest tides in Europe.
