MUSEUM SIAM
This former Ministry of Commerce building-turned-museum is a beautiful neo-classical ode to Siam’s bygone days. Just a stone’s throw from the iconic Wat Pho, the museum presents thousands of years of Thai history through an innovative style using the lives of people to tell the country’s story.

The exhibitions weave through 16 rooms spread over three floors, bringing visitors on an experiential journey through time that seeks to educate through self-discovery.

Interactive displays, activities and films are scattered throughout the museum between ancient artefacts like dinosaur fossils from Khon Kaen, and prehistoric weapons found in Lopburi.

Every room is decorated with meticulous detail, like the Bangkok Cafe from the Sixties that carefully shows the start of the adaptation of Western ideas in the country. Full of surprises and different from your average museum, the Museum of Siam encompasses the spirit and culture of Thailand in an exciting way.

It’s a delightful balance of new and old and proves to be one of Bangkok’s best history museums. Not to mention, the award-winning architecture serves as a must-visit site in itself.

WAT PHRA KAEW
One of the most popular attractions in Bangkok, the white-walled Grand Palace was built in 1782 and for over a 150 years was the residence of the Thai King, the Royal Court and the administrative seat of government.

The 233-acre complex embraces more than 100 buildings that embody royal history including the French-influenced Borombhiman Hall, the Amarindra Hall that was once once a hall of justice, and the Chakri Mahaprasat, the Grand Palace Hall.

But the best-known building is the beautifully intricate Wat Phra Kaew, or the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The spiritual core of Thai Buddhism and the monarchy, it is regarded as the most important temple in the Kingdom as it enshrines the Phra Kaew Morakot, or Emerald Buddha.

Carved out of a single block of jade, the stature dates back to the 15th AD and features The Buddha in a meditative posture in the Lanna style. It sits high on a series of platforms and is draped in monastic robes that change with the seasons.

An important ritual is the changing of the robes performed by HM the King to bring luck and fortume to the country during each season.
