About 100 years ago the Nidwaldnerhof was known as Park-Hotel Nidwaldnerhof. “In a favoured, open location, with a large covered terrace, directly beside the lake. Many rooms with balconies.

Music salon. Electric lighting. Shady park with 400 m of shoreline and magnificent all-round views. Choice cuisine…” according to the brochure available at the time.

In 1979 the Park-Hotel Nidwaldnerhof was torn down and today’s Nidwaldnerhof was built in its place. From that point on the brochures read, “The paradise on the Lake. Our terrace offers 120 guests a fantastic view of the lake and mountains.

Conservatory romanticism with a lakeside view, seating 40 guests. Our hotel rooms are furnished in a modern style, with shower/WC, TV, telephone, radio alarm and mini-bar. The Hotel Nidwaldnerhof is centrally located with direct access to the A2.

The unforgettable location remains the same, and yet a few things have changed. We, Claudia und Rolf Stucki-Frutig, took over the Nidwaldnerhof in 2004, to become its new owners.

In 2011 all the lakeside rooms were renovated and in 2013 the restaurant was completely modernised, the remaining rooms were tastefully renovated and three comfortable suites were installed in the attic (formerly the Panorama Saloon).

We have invested our love and passion in today’s Nidwaldnerhof. We are sincerely committed to the region, which is also reflected in our fresh and honest cuisine. Our family, including Sven and Jan, feels at home here and firmly rooted. Our employees are part of our family and this is clearly noticeable in the Nidwaldnerhof.

BECKENRIED
The friendly, lively and picture-perfect village on Lake Lucerne, in the centre of Switzerland, in the centre of Europe, has a lot to offer.

Today Beckenried is the popular home of around 3,400 inhabitants, offering a high quality of life. Our village offers jobs in small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as a very active community life. Over 50 clubs provide games, sport and entertainment.

In your leisure time with us you can go skiing, walking and swimming, play tennis or minigolf, or simply enjoy a trip on the wonderful lake steamers.

Our mountain railway, run by Bergbahnen Beckenried-Emmetten AG, will take you effortlessly up the Klewenalp and into the most beautiful Alpine recreation areas. Visitors appreciate the clean lake and the picturesque mountain landscapes.

The city of Lucerne with numerous sights

The Lake Lucerne region, with the world-famous city of Lucerne and idyllic holiday resorts all around the lake, offers a great variety of holiday experiences.

There is room here for the avant-garde in the form of the KKL Luzern (Lucerne’s Culture and Conference Centre) by Jean Nouvel, as well as for sights that have lasted for centuries.

The museums, theatres and festivals perfectly cover tradition and trend, archaic customs and high-tech, turning Lucerne into a first-class city of culture and festivals. Enjoy unforgettable excursions on a paddle steamer on Lake Lucerne or top up with nature pure and simple in the accessible nearby mountains.

Optimum prospects in the Lake Lucerne region
The landscape is moulded by the unmistakeable Lake Lucerne, the mountains and spectacular nature. The region’s popular tourist mountains have a long tradition and offer open views into the world of the mountains. For example Europe’s first rack railway winds up the Rigi, and the world’s steepest rack railway leads up onto the Pilatus.

If you yield to the call of fun and games in the everlasting snow, you must ride in the world’s first rotating cable car, the Rotair, to summit of mount Titlis; at over 3,000 m this is the highest viewpoint in the adventure region of Lake Lucerne.

The CabriO® Bahn, the world’s first double-decker cable car with an open top deck, has been in operation on the Stanserhorn since 2012. Many other cable cars provide access to no less impressive mountain viewpoints in our region.

A first class view of the breathtaking landscape can also be obtained from Europe’s largest inland waterway fleet on Lake Lucerne.

From the five nostalgic paddle steamers, the elegant catamaran or the panoramic yacht Saphir and the other motor vessels you can see snow-capped mountains, idyllic villages and historic sites such as the Tellsplatte or the Rütli, where Switzerland has its origins.

Urban experience
Centuries-old sights such as the Chapel Bridge, the Musegg Wall, the Lion Monument or the historic old town form a striking contrast to modern Lucerne: the avant-garde KKL Luzern, the wealth of restaurants and an attractive range of shops.

The Festival City of Lucerne is equally impressive all year round: blues, jazz, rock, comics or the colourful carnival. The classic programme of the Lucerne Festival with its world-famous protagonists is a well-respected affair.

The Rosengart Collection, the natural monuments in the Glacier Garden or the Museum of Transport are among the highlights of our cultural offering. Immerse yourself in the city, stroll along the quays and get to know the legendary charm of Lucerne on one of our guided city tours.

The Klewenalp

The cable car takes you effortlessly into a widely varied paradise for walkers and sightseers. Arriving at the top, you are faced with a fantastic panorama. The hiking or bike trails lead through unspoilt Alpine flora in the unique mountain world above Lake Lucerne.

At the upper terminus of the Klewenalp cable car (1593m) there are a large children’s playground and a “Marmot Park.” In the summer months you can attend a yodelling mass in the mountain chapel at Klewenalp.

Our secret tip is a pleasant stroll (1 hour) to visit “Silbi” in the tepee village. His cheese sandwiches and “äs Chacheli Kafi-Schnaps” in his Alpine cabin are legendary.

Another option full of variety is the Goldi Family Safari from Klewenalp via Seelisberg with five different means of transport. After the cable car ride up the Klewenalp, the tour leads on foot trough meadows pine forest for around 1.5 hours to the Stockhütte.

The trip back down Emmetten in the gondola lift offers a chance to relax. The tour continues by Post Bus to Seelisberg and by funicular railway and boat back to Beckenried.

Skiing
In the winter the familiar Klewenalp-Stockhütte skiing region opens up ten facilities and 30 km of ski and snowboard pistes of varying levels of difficulty between 1600 m and almost 2000 m.

From the Klewenalp with its ski school, crèche and 15 km of winter hiking trails, the longest sled run in Central Switzerland, 9 km long and with a height difference of 850 m, leads via the Stockhütte to Emmetten.

Klewenalp
Take the Klewenalp-Stockhütte cable car up to our local mountain and immerse yourself in a natural paradise that makes your heart beat faster.

Seemeile Buochs
Water is life! With a wide range of sports and recreational activities on Lake Lucerne, the Seemeile Buochs between Buochs and Ennetbürgen offers a variety of activities on or directly by the lake.

Museum of Transport, Lucerne
The Museum of Transport, Lucerne, gives you the chance to experience the development of transport and mobility on the roads, rails, on water, in the air and in space at first hand.

A ride through cable car history with a world first – the open-topped cable car CabriO – and the funicular railway from 1893 to the Stanserhorn: 1,900 metres above everyday life – recommended by leading leisure lovers.

Eggberge
Sheer fun at 1,500 metres! The Eggberge hiking area with its magnificent view of Lake Lucerne and the mountains of Uri is part of the sun terrace that stretches from Schächental up to the Klausen Pass.

Beckenried lido
The insider’s tip among the lidos, small, exquisite, and currently still free of charge. With a children’s pool, paddling pool and a diving board that lets you dive straight into Lake Lucerne.

Moosbad Altdorf swimming pool
If the weather is poor, you can work out here or relax after a trip to the mountains. In the summer months, there’s not only the indoor pool, but also a spacious outdoor area with a wave pool and water slide.

Glasi Hergiswil
Watch the glassblowers at work, immerse yourself in their history or pick out your very own work of art in the shop. A destination for the whole family and anyone who loves glass.

Hammetschwand Lift
Travel from canton to canton with the highest outdoor lift in Europe and enjoy the impressive view on the Bürgenberg. A masterpiece of engineering from 1905.

Titlis Glacier Excursion

Tatort Tell outdoor detective game, Altdorf
William Tell mirrors the soul of Switzerland like no other. The “Tatort Tell” outdoor detective game familiarises players with the national hero as it takes them through Uri’s myth-laden mountain and lakeland scenery.

Bannalp
The genuine jewel in Nidwalden. The magnificent high valley in the foothills of the Alps with an idyllic mountain lake is compelling with its powerful mountains and unique nature. For climbers and lovers of peace and quiet.

Rigi
The mountain railway takes you up to the “Queen of Mountains”, right into the middle of the impressive mountain world. Just get out and enjoy – absolutely simple!
