Chobe Safari Lodge Uganda

Located in the Murchison Falls National Park, this Five Star lodge is undoubtedly the gem in Uganda’s crown of tourism destinations. The breathtaking panoramic views, coupled with the sounds of the River Nile’s magnificent rapids, sets the scene for an adventure that will impress even the most discerning of visitors.

Chobe Safari Lodge offers a unique opportunity to sample the wildlife, birds, flora and fauna; all in an area of the park that has yet to be discovered. This area of Murchison Falls National Park is ideal for fishing, and will revive this newly refurbished lodge to become one of the best fishing destinations in Africa.

ROOMS & SUITES
Chobe Safari Lodge features 36 elegant guest rooms, 21 luxury tents, 4 suites and a Presidential Cottage. The River Nile is the main focus from an architect’s perspective, and so all the rooms and luxury tents have balconies and terraces facing the magnificent sweeping views.

PRESIDENTIAL COTTAGE
The name of this cottage speaks for itself. Guests wanting exclusivity and unparalleled privacy can opt to choose this accommodation as it is situated on a private section of the property. A private butler will be on duty and call 24 hours a day to address all your needs. There is a twin bedroom, a double bedroom and a large living room.

Relaxing on the balcony and terraces, overlooking your own private lagoon where buffalos and hippos swim in the water, is an experience you can soak up with the knowledge that no other guest can do the same.

THE SWIMMING POOL
Cool off and escape the heat after a long day out in the park, or simply relax in the lodge’s unique swimming pool while watching the sunset! The swimming pool at Chobe Safari Lodge is the most unique of it’s kind; it features 3 separate ‘tiers’ of the pool, giving you the choice of more privacy when you swim.

Each tier boasts the same, magnificent panoramic view of the River Nile on it’s journey from Karuma Falls to Murchison Falls. There is even a pool bar – “Rapids”. Sip a cocktail in the water or on one of the loungers while overlooking the River Nile below at sunset. Priceless!

KARUMA RESTAURANT
Treat your self to the mouth-watering menu of local and international specialties produced by our experienced Chefs. Barbecues and traditional dancers make dining outdoors at Chobe Safari Lodge an unforgettable experience.

Dining in the Karama restaurant is a unique experience where modern interior décor blends with the safari feel. ZEN elements of flowing streams of water can be seen from inside the restaurant in the air-conditioned interior.

For those who like dining out doors, the terrace is a scenic setting with spectacular panoramic views across the River Nile. After dining, the Karuma bar is right next door to the restaurant and is the perfect setting for a nigh- cap or aperitif!

ACTIVITIES & EXPERIENCES
The wildlife biodiversity in Murchison Falls National Park contains the most astonishing number of species – 76 types of mammals and 451 different birds. The River Nile, on its journey from Murchison Falls, attracts a whole host of different wildlife such as crocodiles, hippos and water birds.

Other animals include lion, warthogs, buffalo, rare aquatic sitatunga antelope, giant forest hog, Uganda kob, topi, waterbuck, elephant and leopard.Mammal species – 76, Birdspecies – 451.The national park plays host to many unique attractions and adventures.

FISHING
The River Nile plays host to a variety of fish including tilapia, the famous Nile perch, yellow fish (barbel) and catfish amongs…t others. Some Nile perch caught here have been recorded at more than 220 pounds/ 100 kgs.

Fishing, mostly done from the riverbank or from a boat at the base of the falls area, is generally done over a few days and can be very exciting for the keen angler, and even a novice. We endorse a strict catch and release policy to protect and conserve fish populations. Historically Chobe Safari Lodge’s reputation was based on the location being a haven to the global angler.

Following an era of the site being totally undisturbed, this part of the river once again offers a challenge to the sporting angler and indeed the Lodge’s resident specialist angler has already often caught Nile Perch exceeding 80 kgs – making Chobe one of the best locations for fishing in Africa.

The lodge has boats solely designed for fishing and our guides will show you the best fishing spots to guarantee a catch! Tight lines!

SAFARI DRIVE
As an unexplored area of the national park, and with new game tracks having recently developed, exploring game and doing on Safari is a unique experience at Chobe Safari Lodge.

Morning game drives start at 7am. Breakfast can be taken beforehand at 6.30am or later at around 10am. Evening game drives start at 4pm. With prior notice, the lodge will book a UWA ranger guide to accompany you and to help spot game. The lodge has numerous safari vehicles. One is an open-sided, 9-seater, modified vehicle specifically designed for game viewing.

The other is a closed vehicle that has an open-top roof with 6 seats, and it is available for hire. Binoculars are available upon request and we have a qualified guide to drive you and address all your question on wildlife.

NATURE WALKS
Murchison Falls National Park supports a remarkable 451 species of birds. Highlights include the rare yet famous Shoebill stalk, Martial Eagle, the African Fish Eagle, Papyrus Gonolek, Lesser and Greater Flamingo, White-tailed Lark and Verraux’s Eagle Owl. Amongst the discerning ornithologists, Uganda has for long been the best kept secret in terms of its plethora of bird species with over 1,000 on record.

LUNCH TRIP ON THE NILE
A highlight of any visit to Murchison Falls Conservation Area is the launch trip to view the magnificent Murchison Falls. Trips normally depart at 9.00am and 2.00pm. Hippos and crocodiles are abundant and you will see plenty of game and bird life. The voyage takes about three hours.

HIKING
Guests who enjoy rigorous exercise may disembark from the launch in the Fajao gorge for the 45-60 minute climb to the Top of the Falls. One can then walk back to the boat (by prior arrangement) or be collected by a vehicle at the top. A UW A ranger guide is required for this activity.

DRIVE TO THE FALLS
The most rewarding times for game drives are the early morning and late afternoon/early evening. A drive through the scenic Buligi area west of Paraa to the Delta Point (where the Victoria Nile passes through the northern tip of Lake Albert to become the Albert Nile) takes around three hours.

Expect to see elephant, buffalo, giraffe, Jackson’s hartebeest and oribi. With luck, lion and perhaps even a leopard may be sighted. Morning game drives start at 7am. Breakfast can be taken beforehand at 6.30am or afterwards at around 10am. Evening game drives start at 4pm. With prior notice, the lodge will book a UWA ranger guide to accompany you and help spot game.

THE BUSH BREAKFAST
A visit to Chobe Safari Lodge in the Murchison Falls National Park will not be complete without this unique & classic game safari bush breakfast. Our guests are normally woken up with a cup of coffee, which sets them up for a safari drive along the game tracks around the Chobe circuit.

The guests have the best chance of seeing 4 of the “big 5” – elephants, lions, leopards and buffaloes. Giraffes are also common, especially close to the lodge.

Proceeding ahead of the guests, the banqueting team is able to set up the tables with the necessary cutlery & crockery, chairs, umbrella canopy and the “bush kitchenette”, as well as a campfire, in time, at the bush breakfast site before the guests arrive.

Upon arrival, the guests are welcomed with a glass of chilled, freshly squeezed passion juice. They are then led to the tables to enjoy their classic ‘out of the Africa’ bush breakfast.

The chef will prepare any choice of eggs, as well as a choice of sausages, bacon, tomatoes, assorted juices, cereals, fruit platters, bread, assorted pastries, butter, marmalade, jam, honey, milk, coffee & tea. After breakfast, the guests do another safari drive on their way back to the lodge.
