THE FARM
Embracing the ‘farm to table’ concept, Kokomo boasts a 5.5 acre (2.2 hectare) farm that practices organic methodologies, growing a wide variety of local vegetables, herbs, sprouts, edible flowers and exotic fruits from zucchini to sweet basil and pineapples, the list is extensive.

The Hydroponics garden is large enough to supply fresh lettuce all year round, extra production of tomato vines, cucumbers and seedling tables; this method excludes the need for soil to grow produce.

DOCK TO DISH
At the start of 2018, Kokomo Private Island proudly launched the Fiji chapter of Dock to Dish; an incredible community-supported seafood and fishing venture which we are immensely proud to be a part of.

Dock to Dish is an international network of small-scale fishermen, marine biologists, and sustainable seafood advocates committed to sustainable and responsible fishing. At Kokomo, we are setting a new standard in Fijian cuisine by using a truly restorative approach that was designed with future generations in mind.

HEAD CHEF
No visit to Beach Shack would be complete without trying Head Chef Enzo’s island-made pasta. The Italian master grew up in Italy, spending time throughout the Amalfi Coast, Positano, Sorrento and Naples, before reaching North Italy.

At culinary school, Enzo met his mentor, Ludavico. After giving him his first job, Ludavico introduced Enzo to a contact in Fiji. Twelve years later, and he has never looked back, though he does miss the views from Positano.

BEACH SHACK
Located on the west beach, next to the arrival jetty, the Beach Shack serves breakfast, lunch and dinner; with the option of a daily tasting menu for dinner.

Located on the beach, the deck and lounge area offer amazing views over the horizon. The perfect place to watch the sunset while sipping a cocktail, before indulging in a delectable dining experience. A daily tasting menu is available for dinner.

WALKER D’PLANK
Tucked within a small cove behind the arrival jetty, walk down the plank and leap into the flavours of Asian inspired street food. This casual restaurant and bar is positioned over the water, offering a unique setting to enjoy an ice cold beverage from noon onwards.

The restaurants no menu policy creates a point of difference, with the chef preparing dishes based on your favourite foods. Offering an amazing sunset view, Walker D’Plank is the ultimate place for a romantic rendezvous.

KOKOCABANA
Adjacent to our resort pool, the Kokocabana is open for refreshments, lunch and dinner. The Cabana has a smoothie, juice and dessert bar open all day.

From 11am onwards the cheese and charcuterie counter opens and the chef begins cooking in the wood fired pizza oven. Guests can enjoy a glass of wine, beer or mixer with a charcuterie board or build their own gourmet pizza.

FISHING
A short distance from Kokomo are some of the most fertile and untouched waters Fiji has to offer. Ideally positioned within close proximity to the unspoilt and thriving, Great Astrolabe Reef, Kokomo offers varied, unrivalled and world-class fishing opportunities.

The waters around Kokomo contain a rich variety of pelagic and demersal species, from mackerel to marlin, wahoo and sailfish.

To experience the thrills of big game or sport fishing, you need only venture a little further from the resort, to the outer reefs, where large schools of tuna cloud the top of untouched seamounts and blue marlin cruise the deep water off the edge.

DIVING
Discover the underwater wonders of the Great Astrolabe Reef, on an unparalleled underwater adventure. Extending for over 100km (62 miles), the Great Astrolabe Reef is the ultimate playground for dive enthusiasts.

Located on the north east of the Kadavu group of islands, Kokomo offers exclusivity to dive sites that are not frequented by other resorts. Come face to face with a wide variety of marine life, including reef-sharks, turtles and dolphins, as well as an abundance of coral reef fish found among the soft and hard coral formations.

With access to both the western and eastern side of the Great Astrolabe Reef, Kokomo Private Island provides guests with the opportunity to select from an impressive selection of varied dive sites.

The majority of our sites are located on the western side of the Great Astrolabe Reef. This area provides an abundance of diverse diving options and features multiple varying passages and channels that weave throughout this impressive barrier reef.

DIVE SEASONS
MAY – OCTOBER
This is the best time of year for diving at Kokomo. During these months the water temperature is slightly cooler – sitting at a comfortable 24˚C (75˚F) – meanwhile, the magnificent big blue offers fantastic visibility with clear viewing of up to 60 metres, rarely dropping below 25 metres.

NOVEMBER – APRIL
While diving is an all year round activity at Kokomo, the sea is at its calmest and the water temperature is at its warmest during these months – reaching up to 30˚C (86˚F). Visibility ranges from 20–30 metres, and is subject to change due to the more unpredictable weather this time of year.

MANTA RAYS
Manta Rays can be found all year round at our many dive sites, however snorkelling encounters generally occur during the April-September period. They are regularly spotted between Kokomo and Yaukuve Lailai and have also been seen in front of the resort and around the dock.

It is important to note that these are wild animals and unfortunately encounters cannot be guaranteed. The Manta Rays average size is 3m across, however, they can grow up to 5.5m (wing tip to wing tip).

Travelling between shallow reefs and deeper waters, there are two different types: the Oceanic Manta Ray and the Reef Manta Ray – the most common of the two.
The Mantas we swim with do not have a barb on their tail so there is no chance of being stung. It is a safe, enjoyable and memorable experience to swim with these amazing creatures!

TURTLES
Found around the world in warm subtropical and tropical ocean waters, turtles can be encountered right throughout the year here at Kokomo. We often spot these majestic reptiles on our outer reef dives, as well as within our House Reef, directly out the front of Kokomo.

Our local waters are home to the Green Turtle and the Hawksbill Turtle. While the Green and Hawksbill Turtles look similar, the Hawksbill can be distinguished from the Green Turtle by its sharp curving beak and the saw-like appearance of its shell margins.

The Green Turtle is lightly coloured and features a teardrop shaped carapace and large paddle-like flippers.

HUMPBACK WALES
Humpback Whales are not a regular occurrence but we have been lucky over the years and have had a few sightings of them near Kokomo. These ever intriguing creatures travel on route from the Antarctic to warmer water throughout the southern hemisphere winter.

While they travel at a slow speed during migration they have been known to socialize, breed and calve in Fiji.

They have also been spotted on the way to Kadavu during excursions as well as transfer flights to and from the island – so keep your cameras at the ready! If luck is on your side, you may also spot Pilot Whales between April – September.

SHARKS
There are an array of sharks that manoeuvre through the reef all year round. Reef Sharks – such as White Tip Sharks – are often spotted on diving and snorkelling trips, however we do have an abundance of Grey Sharks that reside at Solo Reef.

Oceanic Hammerheads are also sighted all year around but particularly between July – August. These sharks are often found in the shallower reefs near a drop off or passage.

Experienced divers will often spot Bull Sharks at Solo Reef (1-hour boat ride from the resort). The ever elusive Tiger Sharks have been sighted a few times, however, they are a rare occurrence.

SPINNER DOLPHINS
We often sight spinner dolphins when the sea is calm. These small cheeky creatures are found in offshore tropical waters and love playing in the bow of the boat! Most famous for their aerial displays, the playful Spinner Dolphin can make two to five spins in one leap, and reach up to ten feet high.

The acrobats of the sea, scientists believe that spinners have developed a very sophisticated language using jumps, dives, and turns. Spinners live in large pods (from a few dozen to a thousand or more); and while they are residents throughout the year here, sighting a pod of spinners is pure luck.

DIVING CERTIFICATIONS
Want to take your diving to the next level and become certified? You are in the right place. Kokomo Private Island operates its own 5 Star PADI Dive Center with a world-class dive team.

The duration of the open water course is three to four days, depending on whether the online component of your course has been completed prior to your arrival on Kokomo. The course is a combination of theory and practical tasks that adhere to PADI standards.

In the event that you require more time to complete the course, we are flexible and able to provide as much extra guidance as needed; because we are committed to creating passionate and safe divers.

Once signed up, we will forward you a unique link to the PADI website where you can begin your e-learning; and this is a great way to do the theory component from the comfort of your own home. If completed prior to arrival, all you need do is have a quick review of the online content and then it’s straight into the practical aspect of the course.

CORAL GARDENS
To ensure the reefs surrounding Kokomo continue to thrive for generations to come, we launched a coral restoration project in March 2018. Join our marine biologists for a hands-on experience. Learn about coral garden design, and assist with coral selection and transplantation. Enjoy an informative adventure whilst playing your part to assist with environmental sustainability.

MARINE BIOLOGIST
Cliona O’Flaherty’s passion for the ocean and environment was developed from an early age; her father was a zoologist and passionate about environmental sustainability. With humble beginnings working alongside her father and brother in Ireland as a data analyst for her family’s environmental consultancy, Cliona was focused on pursuing a hands-on approach.

SNORKELLING
Explore the underwater wonders of the Great Astrolabe Reef. Snorkel directly off the beach on Kokomo’s East Beach or journey by speedboat to the outer reef. Teeming with life, our reefs are home to turtles, reef sharks, manta rays, dolphins and an endless array of fish and corals. Grab your flippers and a mask from Baywatch, and jump in.

SURFING
Surfing Fiji’s outer reefs under the right conditions is a world class experience. With exceptional breaks accessible via private boat transfer, you can surf the outer reef tides, surrounded by idyllic sights of neighbouring islands. Travel with your board or experience local Fijian craftsmanship. Allow us to recommend the most suitable location for your experience level, within 45-90 minutes of the resort.

SAILING
Discover the joys of sailing off Kokomo’s west beach. With the wind behind you, glide smoothly out across the ocean, taking in the picturesque views of the Fijian islands. Keep an eye out for turtles and dolphins, as you cruise through the water, perfecting your skills on our Hobie Wave catamarans.

PADDLE BOARDING
Feel on top of the world, as you explore the water from above. Take advantage of the calm, clear waters to spot amazing marine life while paddle boarding in Kokomo’s house reef. Enjoy a relaxing core workout, or turn your paddle board into a sunbed and allow the waves to lull you back and forth.

KAYAKING
Wake up with the sun on a guided kayak tour. Our tranquil waters are home to curious sea turtles, most active in the early morning. Enjoy the beautiful corals as you paddle above Kokomo’s house reef or circumnavigate the island on a 90-minute kayak adventure.

Want to experience the beauty of the Great Astrolabe Reef without getting wet? Join Kokomo’s scheduled inner reef snorkel at 10.30am daily or arrange a private excursion. Our guides will showcase the beauty of Kokomo’s thriving inner reef during an informative 60-minute tour.

WATERFALL
Travel by boat to a hidden private oasis, before journeying inland and uphill. Kadavu is home to an abundance of magnificent flora and fauna, just waiting to be explored. The walk is rewarding and well worth the adventure when you cool off with a dip in a refreshing natural waterfall. Descend to the boat feeling revived.

VILLAGE TOURS
A trip to Dravuni or Buliya village promises an authentic Fijian cultural experience. Upon arrival, you will take part in a traditional ‘sevusevu’ welcome ceremony. Share kava with the village chief, before exploring the village with a local guide. Learn about the traditional Fijian lifestyle and take the opportunity to purchase local artisan crafts.

CULTURAL
Immerse yourself in Fijian traditions and harness new skills whilst learning about their origins. Join Kokomo’s experiences team for an afternoon of weaving, carving, jewellery making or sarong (sulu) styling.
