This sparkling jewel is characterized by three main themes, Wine & Dine, Art & Culture and Health & Wealth. The different areas of the hotel, as well as the 47 residences, suites and junior suites have been individually furnished with great attention to detail and with state of the art comfort.

What led the hotelier Josef Anton Bon from Ragaz to choose Vitznau for his luxury hotel? In an idyllic setting on the shores of Lake Lucerne, not far from the legendary Rütli meadow, the location seemed perfect to this forward thinking entrepreneur – not least because Vitznau had been attracting the emerging mass tourism market since the opening of the Vitznau-Rigi Railway, Europe’s first cogwheel railway, in 1871.

Bon must have recognised that in this golden age of tourism, a modern luxury hotel on the lake shore was just what was needed. In the architect Karl Gottlieb Koller, who also came from Ragaz, he found a great master of his craft.

Koller had already built such famous establishments as the Bäderhotel in Bormio (Veltlin) and the Hotel Schweizerhof in St. Moritz. Later he was to go on to create the stunning Hotel Suvretta House in St. Moritz and Hotel Columbia in Genoa. In spring 1903, after around three years of building work, the Park Hotel was opened, with the former Pension Pfyffer, built in 1867, integrated into the new hotel.

Alongside prominent figures from business and industry, guests at the Park Hotel also numbered artists and actors from home and abroad. In celebration of the hundred year jubilee, a series of glamorous and spectacular ball nights were held, just as in 1903. In spring 2009, the hotel was taken over by Park Hotel Vitznau AG and closed in order to carry out the planned renovations.

The Park Hotel Vitznau captivates with its unique suite concept. All 47 residences, suites and junior suites have been individually designed based on six themes and provide something for every guest. Whether artist, engineer, inventor or chemist, we have a suite and style to suit everyone.

SUITE SWENSEN 
Regarded as one of the most successful endowment managers in the world, David F. Swensen has held a range of advisory positions, including at the New York Stock Exchange. In 2008, he was made a fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and is also Chief Investment Officer at Yale University, where he invented the ‘Yale Model’, dedicated to long-term profit orientation and diversification, and to generating alpha.

The hotel’s corridors have been designed as galleries, with each floor dedicated to one of our group’s development projects. Alongside galleries from the world of hotels, such as Wine & Dine, are other galleries like the Endowment & Finance Gallery, based on the theme of wealth. Or the galleries of Art & Culture with its projects and the Medical gallery related to the Health projects.

DINING
The two restaurants focus and PRISMA, as well as the unique Verlinde Bar & Relais Gourmand boast incredibly high-standard cuisine. Exclusive grill specialties with breathtaking views from the lake terrace or the perfect wine and exquisite rarities from the six exclusive wine cellars complete the offer.

ATELIER RESTAURANT
Patrick Mahler and his team (18 Gault&Millau points, 2 Michelin stars) offer an accessible fine dining experience by fusing elegant cuisine and stylish service in the focus ATELIER. Culinary elegance is combined with a variety of flavors and fine contrasts.

French cuisine is transformed into colorful creations with seasonal products from all over the world. The filigree works of art are presented in eight or twelve impressions with harmonious ease.

PRISMA AT FOCUS RESTAURANT
Chef de Cuisine Philipp Heid (16 Gault&Millau points, 1 Michelin star) impresses with a casual fine dining concept and uncomplicated cuisine. With the Omakase menu you go on a culinary surprise journey through the PRISMA aromatic cuisine. European dishes with the sophistication of Far Eastern flavors and the taste of the finest regional products in sharing style. Let yourself be surprised!

VERLINDE ARMAGNAC & COGNAC BAR
Be invited to the Verlinde Armagnac & Cognac bar’s very own elegant atmosphere; in which the walls are decorated by nine original works of art by Claude Verlinde – honoring the artist and painter. The onyx stone elements adorned with beautiful backlighting set for a cozy place to drink – whether for long-known classics or fancy new cocktails.

The highlight however is the bar’s collection of over 200 Vintage Armagnacs and Cognacs. Our Bar Team craftes exclusive cocktails with the finest ingredients, an imaginative twist. The seasonal freshness will be reflected in both drink and the Relais Gourmand food.

A refined menu of delightful dishes and small snacks, such as typical French bar dishes with a modern twist or specialties. Enjoy your favourite «eau de vie» in combination with a tasteful cigarre and sip and smoke slowly in the fumoir. Allow the clocks to run on a different pace.

LAKE TERRACE
Direct on the shores of Lake Lucerne next to the jetty is our nostalgic pavilion with its lake terrace. Spend a while here, listen to the gentle splashing of the bronze ‘Bull & Bear’ fountain and enjoy stunning views of the Alps. The GRILL & LIFESTYLE specialties from meat sommelier Felix Kattchin are also on offer in the cold season.

WORLD OF WINES
«Simply dazzling, simply breath-taking» are some of the thoughts that cross your mind when you enter the awe-inspiring wine cellars of the Park Hotel Vitznau. An almost museum-like paradise for Sommeliers and wine lovers. Six wine cellars brimming with international treasures, with four centuries of wine history.

Stored in cellars of glass, wood and stone, the wine bottles are arranged according to their origin. 32,000 bottles, 4,000 types of wine and a purchase value of more than 26 million CHF are just some of the wine facts and figures at the Park Hotel Vitznau.

The French wines feel right at home stored on stone shelves behind Bathalzar and Salmanazar bottles with wines from Bordeaux and Burgundy. Further behind in the same cellar is the blue shipping container in which wines from the New World are stored.

Opposite are bottles from Italy, Portugal, Spain, Germany, Austria and Switzerland – Old World wines – maturing in wooden pentagonal wine racks. Dating from 1811, the oldest wine is stored in a golden casket, and is from the cellars of the Château d’Yquem, as are the three vintage dessert wines of the same name.

The wine cellar’s basement houses sparkling wines from throughout Europe, matured in curved wine racks designed in the style of original Champagne rémuage racks. Tucked away behind the champagne bar lie the noblest rarities in their wooden boxes. Well-guarded and cared for, they lie waiting to be chosen.

WELLNESS
Relax with a massage, sweat in the Finnish sauna, swim towards the mountains in the heated outdoor infinity pool or rest a while in the tepidarium. During the facial and body treatments you will be spoiled with the luxurious La Prairie products.

SWIMMING POOL
Whether snow or blue sky and sunshine, whatever the weather take the plunge and swim in our 21 m long and 9 m wide heated infinity outdoor pool, rest a while on the outdoor jacuzzi beds, or relax in our indoor whirlpool. In the summer months, take a refreshing dip in the lake using the hotel’s private access, and enjoy the sunshine and atmosphere from your deckchair with a cool fruit cocktail.

SPA
The feeling of space in the spa area is emphasised by the 12 meter long saltwater aquarium stretching from floor to ceiling and with over 30 different types of fish. The feeling of space is further emphasised by the clear lines and shapes and the black and white colour scheme, while in the centre of the room are Kneipp foot baths and the ice grotto.

Relax and unwind in the Finnish sauna and sanarium opposite, and cool off in the dip pool. Choose between two quiet rooms to lie down and rest, or the tepidarium with its relaxing light and music.

GYM
Whether on the stepper, running machine or recumbent bike, keep fit with our state-of-the-art Technogym equipment or use the weights and medicine balls and enjoy our audio visual entertainment system. Yoga, pilates and bodypump lessons can also be carried out outside in fine weather.
