SNORKELING
Taveuni is known as the soft coral capital of the world. Year round the snorkeling on our reef right off the private beach in front of the villa is spectacular.

We see turtles, blue spotted rays, thousands of tropical reef fish and hundreds of varieties of coral. We also have a school of dolphins that swim past our villas each morning.

You can start your day with a snorkel before breakfast if you are an early riser and one of our experienced guides will be delighted to join you and point out many of the fish and other sea life which calls the area home.

There is even the start of our own baby ‘cabbage patch’ coral which you will be able to see. When you snorkel or dive on the Rainbow Reef you will see the site of the same name which is an incredible sight to see hundreds of these coral formations in the shape of huge cabbages.

The reef is home to so many different and unusual shellfish as well. Such as the impressive conch and nautilus which are always exciting to discover. If you are keen to plan a trip on our resort boat then we can take you to nearby Honeymoon Island which has excellent snorkeling spots and perfect for the novice or younger guest.

The Rainbow Reef is a must-do to snorkel or dive while you are staying with us. We can take you snorkeling on our resort boat and if you would like to explore for longer we would love to include an island beach picnic.

Our guide will take you to discover the incredible world famous Rainbow Reef which is home to thousands of reef fish and a multitude of sea life as well as the colourful coral that attracts visitors from all over the world to come and see for themselves.

KAYAKING
Each villa is provided with complimentary single and double kayaks for you to enjoy throughout your stay. Kayaking is a perfect way for the family to explore the nearby shoreline since you can use the single or double kayaks so a great way for the kids to join in and try new experiences.

Sometimes you can be out kayaking when the dolphins swim past so quite an amazing way to start your day. If you would like to have one of our guides to go with you then they are always available to assist you.

Kayak down to the nearby Vacala Bay or Prince Charles Beach for a little more exercise. While you are out paddling you will be able to see the underwater world as the crystal clear water allows you to see the fish and corals beneath you.

We have kiddie and adult size life jackets available if you are a novice or just prefer to have the added security. It is a great way to spend a few hours exploring near the resort and then you can come back to your private villa and relax after your exertions.

Make sure you take lots of photos (an underwater camera or GoPro is perfect to use for those holiday snaps). Complimentary snorkel equipment will be provided by Taveuni Palms Resort.

BIKE RIDING
For guests wishing to explore the island by bike we provide complimentary mountain bikes. There is sealed road as far as Nasalelele Village which is an easy 5-10 minute trip and you pass the two local supermarkets Satish Kumar Foodmart and Suncity Supermarket so it is interesting for you to stop and maybe buy an iceblock and meet the locals.

You can bike to Vacala Bay for a swim at the picturesque sandy beach and spend some time enjoying the view otherwise for the more ambitious and energetic you could go to Naqara town and explore the market and local shops.

It is a sealed road and there are not many cars on the island. We have back packs available for you to carry water and snacks if needed.

When you come back from your bike ride you will be able to cool off in your private swimming pool and have one of the service staff bring you a long ice drink or something stronger if you prefer.

PADDLE BOARDING
We have two 11 6′ paddle boards for complimentary usage. The ultimate all-rounder perfect for first time riders, down-winders, cross stepping and Hang Ten maneuvers.

A slight concave in the nose allows for early wave entry, while the dynamic rocker line results in a steady fast forward glide. Super stable and ready for hours of non-stop fun.

If you are new to this experience, one of our guides would be happy to give you a lesson and ensure you are confident in your prowess of course if you would like to have the guide show you the nearby shoreline that is no problem at all.

One of the great things about going paddle boarding is that it is another way for you to see the many fish and corals. You will glide over the crystal clear waters and still be able to enjoy the view of the underwater world beneath you.

It is also fun to explore along the nearby shoreline. A paddle down to Vacala Bay or Prince Charles Beach is a welcome excursion with lots of coral to see as well as other beaches to enjoy.

A nice way to start the day is a paddle board of course you might like to have a sunset paddle board too. Both are perfect and a great way for the family to have fun together.

COOKING LESSON
Your personal chef will be delighted to offer you complimentary cooking lessons during your stay.

Your private villa has it’s own kitchen which is only used for your cooking lesson so you can learn to cook your favourite dishes and be able to treat the family to some of the gourmet meals that our chef creates once you return back home.

Your chef will show you their secret techniques and give you the recipe to take away to ensure you will WOW them with your culinary prowess. You will see the fresh ingredients used, most are sourced straight from our garden and local market.

This makes the taste even better for you. It is great for the kids to be able to learn how to make some of the yummy dishes they enjoy, the fish tacos and chicken wraps are always a favourite.

We even have families play their own Masterchef competitions on who makes the best meals however I am sure you will agree that everyone is a Winner when they stay with us.

STARGAZING
Situated on the 180th parallel in the southern Pacific ocean, Fiji is isolated from the rest of the world. This is great for those seeking to get away from the busy cities and hustle and bustle of their everyday lives.

It also affords an excellent opportunity for stargazers and photographers to view an unbelievable number of stars at night! With no light pollution, Taveuni Palms Resort is a perfect location to lay back and enjoy a spectacular night sky from your veranda, pool deck or patio.

You will be delighted to view the astounding night sky with the Milky Way and thousands of clusters of the brightest stars you can see better than anywhere else in the world.

Bring your camera and tripod to really capture this beautiful sight. Don’t worry if you stay up all night being mesmerized by the stars as you can relax throughout the day and catch up on a nap if needed.

SCUBA DIVING
Taveuni Island is home to some of the world’s most famous dive sites and is known as the best scuba diving in all of Fiji.

Taveuni Island’s diving sites are each uniquely characterized by the many variations of sea life, tropical fish of every size, shape, pattern and color and of course the beautiful varieties of soft and hard corals.

Whether you choose to dive the amazing Rainbow Reef, The Great White Wall, The Purple Wall, The Zoo, The Fish Factory, Annie’s Bommie, The Ledge, Yellow Grotto… just to name a few … you can expect to see some of the most spectacular sea life (large groupers, sea turtles, blue ribbon eels, moray eels, manta rays, sharks, lion fish, and hundreds of other fascinating fish species) combined with an unbelievable variety of colorful soft and hard corals.

Perhaps one of the most talked about Fiji Island diving sites in the South Pacific lies just off Taveuni’s coast line – “The Great White Wall”, – where you swim through a tunnel that has two exits, one at 33ft and another at 88ft.

During this exciting dive you will come face to face with hundreds of beautiful fish, but perhaps more breath taking than that are the dense concentrations of illuminating white glow given off by the soft corals that completely surround you.

If you are not certified then leave it with us to arrange for you to become a PADI certified diver during your stay with us. This is a 3 day dive course with a comprehensive practical and theory learning that will ensure you are ready to experience the underwater world.

There are other courses available depending on your preferences and age; the PADI Introductory Dive is a 4-5 hour course which covers the fundamentals of dive skills with a pool session and ocean dive to a depth of 40 feet (12 meters) with a instructor.

Once you have completed this course you can receive the credit towards your certification. We have the Bubble Maker Course for the kids who are 8 years and older who would like to learn how to use scuba gear and breathe underwater. It will open a whole new world for them to experience.

BOUMA WATERFALLS
These three incredible waterfalls are located in a pristine Heritage park just a half hour drive from Taveuni Palms Resort. The scenic drive to the falls will take you to the eastern side of the island through Bouma village.

Upon arrival at the heritage park you driver will point out to you the entrance trail and from there you can easily follow the signs. This fabulous walk will lead you through rainforests, across rivers and up to the gorgeous waterfalls.

You will enjoy the sights and sounds of rare tropical birds, view many varieties of island plants and hear waterfalls cascading through the lush rainforest. The walk to the first fall is a short 10 minute flat walk and requires little physical effort.

The second fall requires you to step it up a notch and takes a little more energy and effort but is well worthwhile as the views are fabulous! You can picnic here, swim in the waterfall or for the adventurous hike to the third waterfall.

The upper fall takes about another 30-40 minutes but it is agreed by everyone that it is well worth the climb. Make the most of this wonderful half day trip by having your personal Chef prepare a delicious picnic lunch for you to enjoy whilst relaxing under the cascading waterfall.

If you wish one of our friendly staff will accompany you to the falls acting as your guide and pointing out the wildlife and explaining the various island plants seen along the way. While you swim in the first fall or hike to the second your lunch will be prepared for you and beautifully served on a picnic blanket in the shade.

VIDAWA RAINFOREST HIKE
This is an amazing trip but definitely requires some ambition and physical effort. We highly recommend that you are fit and enjoy walking to take part in this fabulous hike.

The Vidawa forest walk is a full day trip. Your day will start with a scenic drive down the island to Vidawa Village. The hike will take you through one of the finest rainforests in Fiji.

You will see an historic fortified village site, come across spectacular look outs with views over the coast and outer islands and be told tales of the traditional use of forest plants. It is a dream for bird watchers to view with many rare species of birds located in the pristine rainforest.

Your personal guide Asake, is one of the most charming and knowledgeable people on the island when it comes to forest plants, birds and other wildlife.

Your hike ends at Bouma falls with a relaxing swim in the crystal clear water – the perfect end to this journey. Your chef will provide a picnic lunch for you to enjoy after your busy day.

LAVENA COASTAL BOAT AND WALK
This is a must do excursion that everyone loves! This experience should not be missed during your visit on Taveuni. Lavena is the furthest point you can travel on the eastern side of the island. This is a great adventure walk beginning along a beautiful white sandy beach with rock pools.

Continuing on you will ford rivers, pass through remote villages ultimately leading you to a gorgeous trio of cascading waterfalls! You can slide down or jump from the falls into the crystal clear rock pools. The walk will take you about an hour and a half each way.

The best way to experience this excursion is to take the boat from the village either at the start or the end of the trip dependent on the tide. You take the boat on the high tide which allows you to travel along the coast and view the waterfalls which drop directly into the ocean and are not accessible by foot.

Your boatman will take you the track where you will walk up to the other waterfalls to swim and have your picnic lunch before you take the Coastal Walk back to the Lavena village.

You will want to allow at least an hour at the falls for swimming and exploration. Your guide will point out the many rare species of bird which live in the pristine rainforest such as the Orange Dove, Parrots, Silk Tails and many others.

DEEP SEA FISHING
For anyone that loves to fish just let us know and we will line you up with the best of them! Fishing Grounds: Pristine and abundant waters surround your home base of Taveuni, Fiji.

All the various prime fishing habitats are here and begin five minutes after launching, opening up to a virtual vastness of fishing grounds in every direction. Don’t expect to find another boat out there.

You can expect to find the Somosomo straits and out laying areas to be dotted with acres of birds and teeming baitfish, primarily skipjack, small Yellow Fin Tuna, scads, flying fish, mackerel and ballyhoo.

Within the day range, anglers can expect to find all types of pelagic and reef fish as the topography is varied with ribbon reefs, pinnacles, islands, channels, outer reefs, straits, drop offs and sandy flats.

Every direction is full of possibilities for an exciting, productive day of fishing. Depending on the angler’s preference and with some seasonal variability, they can fish for Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, Mahi-mahi, and Yellow fin Tuna.

For the reef fisherman who enjoys casting there is Giant Trevally, Blue Fin Trevally, Barracuda, Walu, and Dogtooth Tuna as well as some other Brand X’s.

Your Captain: John Llanes is at least a 3rd generation fisherman who started fishing over 40 years ago at a very young age. He has fished commercially and professionally and has held his 100 ton Master license for over 30 years.

During his Hawaiian career he has won or placed in at least 50 tournaments. He has studied and fished the Fijian waters for 15 years. He is an all- around fisherman for Big Game, light tackle, reef and bottom fishing.

This rounded experience has given him the opportunity to professionally fish internationally including Australia, Midway, Fiji and his Hawaiian home grounds of Kona. He has been featured on televised fishing shows including ESPN as well as fishing books and magazines with the topics ranging from tournament wins, techniques for catching Giant Trevally’s, Marlin, Tuna, Mahi-mahi, Wahoo and deep sea rigging for various Big Game fish and lure making. All of that aside, the bottom line with Capt. John is fishing is his passion and he is a great choice for the serious fisherman to enjoy a fun day of fishing.

Boat and Equipment: The Sea Afare was built by Islander Boats in October 2019. She is a purpose built boat designed specifically for Fijian waters and all types of anglers and techniques to pursue the large selection of sport fishing species in our surrounding waters.

She is 33 ft LOA with large platforms aft and fore. Beam: 12 ft. or 3.75 meters. Accommodates up to 6 anglers for big game trolling and comfortably 4 for light tackle and casting anglers and up to 10 passengers.

Engine, Electronics, and Safety – Twin 2019 250hp 4 stroke Yamahas Electronics include GPS, VHS, Depth recorder and Fish Finder. She meets all international safety regulations with EPRIB, life jackets, flare guns, and standard safety equipment.

Features & Outfitted with – Reelax Fighting Chair to accommodate big game fishermen that is removable for a flush deck for those anglers that prefer a large aft casting platform for popping, light tackle or fly fishing.

Large casting platform on the fore deck with built in insulated fish boxes that double for ample seating complete with a roll up Bimini top for shade. Enclosed cabin includes v-berth and electric toilet. Swim step with built in retractable ladder fresh water and salt water wash down.

SURFING
For experienced surfers we have an advanced wave across the channel that breaks in an offshore passage. It’s approximately a 45 minute-one hour boat ride to Maqai.

Board hire is available with a range of boards to suit your preference and experience. Swell and wind condition can’t be guaranteed. Tour is with Taveuni Ocean Sports and includes a delicious lunch, cold beverages, and hot showers. A minimum of two surfers is required.

There is an alternative nice gentle break just 5 minutes from Taveuni Palms Resort. We are now offering surfing lessons for beginner surfers and board hire is available here for you.

INTERNATIONAL DATELINE and WAITAVALA WATERSLIDE
Each new day begins on Taveuni island. The 180 degree Meridian line or International date line is a famous land mark that runs through Taveuni. Your excursion will begin with a scenic drive down the island to this landmark.

After you have taken your photographs from this elevated view point you will continue your drive to see the Wairiki Mission Church. This is the most architecturally interesting structure on the island.

The Fijian singing is something you will never forget (Sundays only). Seeing the church and listening to the music is a great cultural experience.

If you wish, your driver will stop in the local township and allow you to explore the small number of island stores selling fruit, vegetables, clothing and groceries. You will see signs for chicken curry rotis. These little parcels are full of delicious hot curry and well worth a try.

For the final part of your excursion you will be taken to the Waitavala Natural waterslide. It is about a 20 minute walk through the rainforest till you come to this natural rockslide which is a natural wonder of Taveuni comprising a series of smooth rock slabs with water cascading down them to offer you an exceptional and fun experience.

It is located in the midst of beautiful tropical bush. It is best visited on the weekend and school holidays when the Fijian kids are there to show you how it’s done. If you have a GoPro don’t forget to take this with you and hold on to it tightly.

BIRDWATCHING AT NABOGIONO FARM
Bird lovers from all over the world come to Taveuni to see the huge variety of bird wildlife on the island. We offer a fabulous excursion to Bobbie’s Farm at the South End of the Island to see his bird sanctuary.

During the excursion you have the opportunity to see the Orange Dove, Turtle Dove, Barking pigeon, Parrots, Silk Tails, the White Throated pigeon and many more.

Nabogiono Farm or Bobbie’s is a family owned heritage property with close links to the National Trust of Fiji. The Farm is located on Taveuni Island, and comprise a freehold property of just over 40 hectares (98 acres).

The property comprises of 400 meters of sea frontage, 10 hectares of jungle re-growth around the homestead, a rich natural habitat for the birds, and approximately 17 hectares of farming area.

Preserving the pristine natural tropical rainforest is important for ecosystem stability and balance. The property maintains nature and wildlife by conserving natural habitat and preventing further development (so there is no disturbance in the natural balance).

More than 20 species of birds (including the rare and iconic Orange Dove) depend upon this rainforest. Going forward, the National Trust of Fiji hopes to establish a ‘ridge to reef’ conservation park to further protect the natural environment.

Bird watchers from around the world make the trip to Taveuni Island just to enjoy the many varieties of birdlife. This is a must see for all nature lovers. During the Lavena Coastal Walk, Vidawa Rainforest Hike and Bouma Waterfall excursion you may encounter many of these rare bird species.

ISLAND HOPPING
These three outer islands, Qamea, Matangi and Laucala are a short scenic journey out to the east of Taveuni.

Jump onboard your own private boat and your boat captain will take you on a cruise to visit Horseshoe Bay, Long Beach and the famous Laucala Island. The owner of Red Bull has built a private 7 star resort there where guests are by invitation only.

During your cruise your boat captain will tell you stories of local legends and point out the plentiful marine life to you such as dolphins and turtles which are a common sight in the area.

After your tour the captain will stop at a great spot to hang out on the beach, picnic and snorkel on the surrounding reefs. FIJIAN LOVO NIGHT
Experience the REAL Fiji. For guests that wish to see the REAL Fiji we invite you to join us for a Fijian Lovo Feast at Wiwi Village. Here you will see the feast cooked in the traditional earth oven. You will experience the history and culture of Fiji.

The first step in your lovo is heating specially selected rocks by placing them in a hot fire. Once they are sufficiently heated they are placed in the bottom of the pit. The meat such as chicken, fish and pork is wrapped in coconut fronds and banana leaves and placed in the rock lined pit.

Next the root vegetables such as dalo (potato like root from the taro plant), cassava (root of the tapioca plant) and uvi (the wild yam) palusami (chicken or beef wrapped in taro leaves, onions and coconut milk) are added.

The food is covered and allowed to slow cook. Once the food is ready it is served with great celebration on banana leaves. Other traditional dishes are prepared like Kokoda (raw fish marinated in lemon juice with coconut milk) a Fijian delicacy.

While your lovo is cooking you can enjoy a village tour and learn about village life. You will see a coconut husking display and enjoy watching a Fijian dance show “Meke”.

Your lovo dinner will be followed with a Kava Ceremony, dancing and music. The Fijians are the friendliest people in the world and would be delighted to have you join them to experience their rich culture and customs.

HORSEBACK RIDING
This excursion will take you to Wiwi Village where you will meet your experienced local guide. You will see where the locals live and is a good introduction to island life. All of the horses are well trained and all of the equipment is well maintained.

Your excursion will take you on a 2-3 hour ride up a beautiful rugged mountain side to an elevation of 1000 feet. You will also ride through areas where the guide will point out to you some of the crops grown such as taro and kava which are important for the island economy.

From the elevated view point you can see the nearby Kocoma, Qamea and Laucala Islands, and the beautiful Taveuni countryside. Don’t forget your camera! There is no better spot for photo opportunities than up at this height. On the return trip you can ride along the beach and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
