OUR HISTORY
The Klaserie Private Nature Reserve was established in 1969 and officially proclaimed a nature reserve in 1972. In 1994 the fences came down between the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, the Kruger National Park and its associated Reserves.

The Klaserie Private Nature Reserve comprises 60 000 hectares of diverse topography and forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park. It attracts a vast variety of fauna and flora including the big five.

Formally known as Angela’s, Misava Safari Camp is one of the original and oldest camps in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. It was originally purchased in 1936 by Edwin Crookes and renamed after his daughter, Angela.

In 1997 it was purchased by the current owner and transformed into a self catered camp for local guests. Finally, in 2019, Misava underwent massive renovations to become the intimate, luxurious camp it is today.

OUR TEAM
Our small, close-knit team comprises 24 committed individuals led by Dawie and Talitha Jansen. Each team member brings their own area of expertise and their dedication is the success behind Klaserie Drift Safari Camps. The combination of all this talent comes together to offer guests a truly memorable 5 star experience.

COOKING UP A STORM
Experience African style cuisine that is passionately prepared by our resident chefs. All ingredients are locally sourced and most of our fresh produce is grown in our very own greenhouse.

All breads, rusks and biscuits are homemade on a daily basis. Meals are inspired by individual flair and years of experience in 5 star establishments both locally and internationally. From private dinners to boma experiences under the stars, each meal is a culinary delight.

EXPERTS IN THE AFRICAN BUSH
Our resident guides have vast experience in their field, and each brings with them their own personalized touch, showing you Africa at its finest, through their eyes.

Their passion is unquestionable, and this is evident in the way they conduct their daily game drives. Guests can be assured of an informative, exciting and unforgettable game viewing experience.

MAKING THE BUSH OUR HOME
“After making our way to the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve in 2015 from the rushed and busy city life in Gauteng, Dawie, our 2 young children, Matthew and Mila, and I feel privileged to have been given the responsibility to manage and call this piece of heaven Our Home.

Having owned and managed our own businesses and taken on the corporate world, we find the stillness and tranquility of life in the bush indescribably peaceful.

Having grown the Klaserie Drift brand from its inception in 2016 to what it is today, we are incredibly proud of everyone involved in the journey. Every day holds new surprises and challenges for us as we grow, from the interesting new people we meet from all over the world to the fantastic and positive team that we are fortunate to work with.

Our piece of Africa has so much to offer and so much to teach, we are happy to just be a part of it all and, best of all, to share its magic.”

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

At Klaserie Drift Safari Camps we take pride in the fact that we make a difference in both the lives of the communities around us and conservation initiatives.

We have a close working relationship with the community which our staff call home and participate in conservation projects such as the Ground Hornbill and the Elephant projects.

ECO CHILDREN
Klaserie Drift Safari Camps are proud supporters and sponsors of Eco Children, which is a non-profit organisation, initiated by the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve.

It focuses on hands-on environmental education and whole school development. Eco Children operate in areas with some of the country’s most challenging social and environmental issues.

The program educates children by increasing their awareness and understanding of conservation and at the same time improving their learning environment, quality of their education and providing opportunities for promising learners.

In doing so we strive to have a positive impact on environmental awareness and education amongst the youth in these areas, which will hopefully lead to better conservation and economic outcomes for South Africa in the long run.

GROUND HORNBILL PROJECT
The Southern Ground-Hornbill, Bucorvus leadbeateri, is a conservation icon of South African savanna. During the 20th Century its range and population size in South Africa decreased by some two thirds, with the birds disappearing from much of their historical range.

Such a rapid decrease in the population of a long-lived, slow-breeding animal is of great conservation concern and, based on IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) criteria, the official conservation status of Southern Ground-Hornbills in Southern Africa has been elevated from Vulnerable to Endangered. We are proud to be working with the Southern Ground Hornbill Project to help reinstate this beautiful bird in its natural territory.

THE ELEPHANT PROJECT
Research commenced in 2003 as Save the Elephants – South Africa, and draws on data collected over almost two decades. The research contributes towards the long-term survival of the African elephant, thereby maintaining the vital diversity of our world.

Local project, Elephants Alive, is also working closely within the Associated Private Nature Reserves to understand local elephant movements and determine non-invasive methods of preventing human-elephant conflict in neighbouring villages. If elephants are to survive, we need scientific knowledge and an intimate understanding of their movements and needs.

WILD DOGS
African Wildlife Conservation Fund run The Lowveld Wild Dog Project. African wild dogs, also known as painted wolves, are Southern Africa’s most endangered large carnivore.

With their unique and striking coat patterns, their intelligence and their highly interactive and caring nature, wild dogs are truly one of the most awe inspiring species alive today.

The Klaserie has become a local stronghold for several wild dog populations in recent years and we are overjoyed to be seeing this rare predator thriving and breeding in our area once more.

HONEYMOONS
Nothing is more romantic than a honeymoon in the bush. Celebrate in style with our honeymoon package which includes private dinners, romantic turn-downs and a complimentary rose petal bath with bubbly. We can even organise a romantic picnic for you, weather dependant.
