The Concept
Punta Caracol was born out of the idea of creating an Acqua-Lodge in a totally virgin and natural environment. The idea is to offer guests a pure and intimate experience with nature in a place of singular beauty where they can relax in comfort.

Built over the Caribbean Sea, along a mile long coral reefed coast, Punta Caracol is constructed using the traditional methods of the Archipelago: each handsomely crafted cabin is built upon stilts which support a wooden frame over the water and covered by a palm leaf roof – an unforgettable habitat congruent with the native communities of the region.

Natural building materials offered by the rich nature of the region were used- different kinds of native woods and plants, clays, leafs, bamboo, wild cane and others. The result is a warm close-to-nature ambience that takes us back to our origins.

At Punta Caracol acqua-lodge the ancient crafty construction techniques are combined with the most advanced alternative energy creation systems such as the solar panels, which are present at the restaurant and in all suites, and gas cooling in all our refrigerators and freezers, as well as the coupling of a sewage purifying system using state-of-the-art aerobic systems for micro-processing and sewage treatment.

Sustainability Program
At Punta Caracol acqua-lodge we take the environment and the community well-being very seriously and therefore we are pioneers in sustainable management in both areas.

Here, the ancient crafty construction techniques are combined with the most advanced sustainable energy creation systems such as the solar panels, which are present at the restaurant and in all suites, and gas cooling in all our refrigerators and freezers, as well as the solar-powered coupling of a sewage purifying system using state-of-the-art aerobic and anaerobic systems for micro-processing and sewage treatment.

Punta Caracol acqua-lodge uses a solid waste disposal management that includes separation of residuals such as glass, aluminum, batteries, plastics and paper in different containers for special handling and recycling while collecting the organic waste into special boxes to make natural compost.

Bath kit element are eco-friendly same as the soap used in our laundry.

At arrival our guest receive a short briefing about the particularities of an environmentally friendly acqua-lodge and some tips that may help them having an enriching experience while helping preserving the planet. Neither fishing nor coral collecting is allowed at the acqua-lodge.

Our website´s FAQ gives further information about things our guests should and should not bring along with them into the acqua-lodge. Punta Caracol acqua-lodge uses only a 2% of its 100 acres land for its operation and keeps the other 98% as a private natural reserve.

Socially wise, we are profoundly community oriented. We have supported schooling, sports and local culture and folklore activities among youth of the area for the last 15 years.

Our staff is 100% Panamanian, and they are always eager to get better service training to increase their professional skills as well as ecologic and environmental knowledge.

When Punta Caracol acqua-lodge began operations more than 15 years ago, few believed we could last if we intended to operate with such environment and social standards. At that time none of both concepts where yet having the relevance they do now.

Today, however, Punta Caracol acqua-lodge is a leading reference and has received national and international recognition.

Punta Caracol acqua-lodge is a proud 2 star member of the “Blue Flag Program” sponsored by the First Lady Bureau and has being posted as one of the most sustainable hotels in the world by leading media channels such as CNN.

Punta Caracol Suite
The 5 Punta Caracol Suites consist of two stories that together provide 50 m2 of interior surface and 25 m2 in its terraces, in addition to a platform at the water’s surface with stairs to access the green, crystal clear waters surrounding it.

The king size bed is located in the upper room, from where you can enjoy an incredible view of the bay through an ingenious window through the palm roof, while your two individual beds are in the lower room, with a bathroom.

All the Punta Caracol suites are joined to the main dock by independent fingers, except for numbers 3 and 4, which share a finger, due to live corals that got in the way which we decided to protect (each anchoring post in Punta Caracol acqua-lodge was placed respecting the natural contour of the coral reefs around it, after a meticulous two-year environmental impact study).

Luna Suite
Our three Luna Suites , besides everything mentioned above, have side halls that encircle it, bigger front and rear terraces, and they also have a hammock, hanging chair and larger bathing / solarium platform.

Master Suite
Our Master Suite is the best architecture work in Punta Caracol acqua-lodge. Its exclusive octagon design confers it attractive, provocative and sheer spaces.

It has about 100 m2 of interior surface, and over 60 m2 of outer terraces, it has side terraces and another terrace in the upper level, which gives it a spectacular panoramic view.

Our Master Suite has a king size bed in the upper room, and four twin (individual) beds in the lower room and also have a hammock and hanging chair.

You can choose from a fascinating selection of day tours- visit the numerous islands of the spectacular Bocas del Toro archipelago, ford rainforest rivers, visit native Indian villages, observe a variety of majestic sea birds at flight as well as the fascinating creatures of our luxuriant rainforests like the cute sloth and the scarlet red frogs-native only to Bocas.

Dive or snorkel with the colorful fish in our coral reefs or spend some time fishing- wherever you go Bocas will reveal a surprising, relatively unknown marine world.
