Located at 24 East 39th Street between Park and Madison Avenues, The William is centrally situated in the Manhattan neighborhood of Bryant Park.
Standing at the intersection of New York’s cultural and business communities, The William is within blocks of Grand Central Terminal, the United Nations, Times Square, five-star culinary destinations and some of the most prestigious corporate headquarters in the world.
THE HISTORY
The two connected brownstones at 24 East 39th Street were home to the Williams Club since 1924, a private alumni social club for the prestigious liberal arts school, Williams College. The building has since transformed into The William.
This six-story historical building has undergone a complete interior restoration to unveil a refreshed, modern, and technologically advanced boutique hotel.
THE COLOR STORY
At the William, every floor is a different color. Monochromatic palettes of blue, teal, pink, orange or yellow vibrantly coat the ceilings, walls, carpets and bed linens. Guests are immersed in visceral color.
The design of the William is the collaborative work of In Situ Design, Lilian B Interiors and artist William Engel. Blurring the lines between their three fields of architecture, interiors and art, they created a livable three-dimensional painting.
The experience begins in glowing white corridors where large scale paintings enliven colored niches. The abstract forms of these paintings are translated into rooms where guests can fully experience unabashed color.
Seamless white resin floors frame the colors. Diplomatic neutrality is found on furnishings and in bathrooms, with a play of gray tweed. In larger suites, floating walls separate living from sleeping while smoked mirrors provide a reflective backdrop for sleek kitchens. Terraced suites offer guests an outdoor urban oasis to view the classic New York city skyline.
THE SHAKESPEARE DINING ROOM
The traditional style dining rooms evoke an early 19th century English gentleman’s club brought into the present with a playful bohemian touch. Expect a seasonal, New York cosmopolitan menu with a strong British backbone.
THE SHAKESPEARE PUB
Emblematic of a 16th century pub found in Stratford upon Avon, The Shakespeare Pub features repurposed beams that run along the ceiling and rich wood paneling that wrap the walls. Enjoy a menu of simple English pub grub, cask ales and wines.
RAINES LAW ROOM AT THE WILLIAM
This speakeasy-type lounge offers the same opulence and design style as the Chelsea original, including curtained off booths, service bells for waiters, and a lengthy list of drinks including a build your own Old Fashioned allowing guests to select their bitters, booze, and sweeteners.
PENTHOUSE SUITE WITH TERRACE
Situated on the 6th floor, the orange Penthouse Suite with Terrace burns with color. Floor to ceiling sliding glass doors open onto a brightly tiled terrace with classic New York City views.
The suite is airy with a spacious living room area. The beautiful kitchen is open to a dining area seating six. A floating wall gently divides the bedroom from the living area, and has an LCD TV on both sides.
For longer stays, there is ample closet space with orange interiors. The room can be adjoined with our Studio Queen Room with Terrace to create a two-bedroom suite. The Penthouse suite with terrace is available in orange. 600 sq. ft. Terrace is an additional 150 sq. ft.
