TERRACE BAR
Tapas and botanas are served at the resort’s three-tiered Terrace Bar, which offers breathtaking sunset views across the Pacific Ocean. Choices include a variety of small plates, a Pacific Kitchen featuring the culinary art of ceviche, sushi and sashimi and a full-service bar. ​

The Terrace Bar is also home to the resort’s Tequila Room – a unique, iron-gated indoor exploration of 65 of the region’s best 100% agave single barrel and Anejo tequilas.

Guests can pair white, rested and aged tequilas and mezcals with small plates of regional favorites, or learn about the origins of tequila during a guided tasting from some of the most famous Tequila houses in Mexico. The tasting ends with guests creating their very own margarita.

THE SEAFOOD MARKET
This rustic seafood restaurant creates a true sense of place and cultural ambiance with local artisan pottery, floor candles and a fire pit.

The grill serves the bounty from the surrounding waters, cooked on the spot, with the local fisherman’s catch of the day handwritten on a chalkboard. Guests savor truly customized dishes, deciding on the cooking method and sauce used to grill their preferred fish.

A MARES RESTAURANT

AT A GLANCE
At 6,000 square feet, the Spa at Cala de Mar is as intimate as it is luxurious, limited to five private treatment rooms, with shutters that open to the breathtaking ocean views and fresh coastal air, and an open-air massage area that takes full advantage of the idyllic climate.

In keeping with the hideaway nature of Cala de Mar, which gives the 59-room Mexico resort special appeal to couples, the spa also features a private room designed exclusively for treatments à deux.

Each treatment room is named after a local flower – such as the Citlaxochitl (poinsettia) – in the nahuatl dialect. Local artwork adds to the authentic ambience. Women’s and men’s spa lounges feature dry sauna, whirlpools and color-therapy steam rooms, as well as lockers and showers.

SPA SERVICES
Each spa experience begins with a ritual floral footbath and a water ritual of steam, sauna whirlpool and rain showers. Natural beverages and hot herbal teas are offered as spa-goers await their treatments.

At the heart of this Ixtapa spa’s menu is its Regional Collection, whose treatments incorporate local herbs, flowers and fruits used for centuries by traditional healers, among cacao and coffee and aloe and cactus.

A signature Lemongrass & Toronjil Wrap combines the therapeutic qualities of these two botanicals (toronjil is a lemon-scented red flower central to Aztec healing traditions) in a soothing wrap that improves skin condition and metabolic functions as it detoxifies.

Massage selections range from the total body Serenity Massage and Sacred Obsidian Massage to sport, aromatherapy, reflexology, and therapeutic massages.

The Amuzgo Herbal Massage is based on ancient traditions and includes the application of an herbal and dried flower poultice activated by heat and moisture to heal sore muscles and eliminate toxins.

In addition, couples can indulge in a Yoloxochitl Couple’s Massage, conducted in the spa’s exclusive cabana for two, which takes its inspiration from the yoloxochitl or heart flower.

For an even more indulgent experience, the Love Ritual combines a couple’s massage with his-and-her facials: the Citlaxochitl Aromatherapy Facial for her, which includes a cleansing and exfoliation followed by an aromatherapy warm stone facial massage and hydrating mask, and a Texochitl Facial for him, designed to soothe rough, sensitive skin damaged by razor blade irritations and dehydration.

TEMAZCAL
Drawing inspiration from ancient Aztec healing traditions Cala de Mar opened recently a temazcal ([temasˈkal]). Temazcal is a type of sweat lodge in the shape of a circular dome which originated with pre-Hispanic Indigenous people.

In ancient Mesoamerica it was used as part of a curative ceremony thought to purify the body after exertion such as after a battle or a ceremonial ball game. Enjoy the privacy of our very own Jatsima Temazcal dedicated to the Ocean Mother.

​Book in advance your private Temazcal Ceremony led by a shaman or guide and expect to enter the Jatsima Temazcal sweat lodge where rosemary, basil, lemongrass and other scents organically grown in our garden waft over the steam created by the shaman as he or she will gently throw water over a pile of hot rocks in a pit.

You will be kept hydrated with herbal tea and fresh fruit. You are permitted to lie down, walk around, or sit still — whatever it takes to cleanse body and mind.

Experience a fresh chamomille flower scrub followed by an herbal warm shower. To close the cermony you will be catered with a traditional warming lentil soup in a cliffside setting with an ocean view.

ZEN ZONE
The Zen Zone, Cala de Mar’s new breezy, open air space for outdoor yoga and meditation or simply for reading a book provides a serene and intimate area to read, practice soulful routines and exercises together. MINDFUL MEDITATION
Practice Mindful Meditation at Cala de Mar’s Zen Zone. Trained by Mexico City based meditation expert, Maria Cristina Babatz, Cala de Mar provides a specific type of meditative training to the entire resort, while leading ongoing meditation sessions and workshops for guests and staff.

Cala de Mar offers a truly unique and personal way to fully experience Mexican cuisine. Our professional chef will set up an experience just for you starting with a trip to the market.

You and the chef will pick out fresh, local ingredients to prepare your traditional Mexican dish. At the market, the chef will provide the history on the food and the background on where your ingredients originate.
