Make the most of a short break in the Alentejo. At the heart of the upper Alentejo, not far from Vaiamonte (a small village), you will find the Torre de Palma Wine Hotel. A signature project, this boutique hotel was designed by architect João Mendes Ribeiro and decorated by Rosarinho Gabriel.
Dating from 1338, the Torre de Palma Wine Hotel was born in 2014. Inspired by the lifestyle of the distinguished Basilii family (former inhabitants of the nearby Torre de Palma Roman ruins), and Alentejo traditions, the hotel was conceived to be your home in this region of southern Portugal.
Torre de Palma Wine Hotel is a 5-star project devoted to Alentejo wine and to offering genuine experiences. It features the typical Alentejo architecture: white-washed walls and inviting, comfortable rooms.
The hotel’s 19 rooms and suites boast elegant interiors that combine contemporary design with traditional pieces, in perfect harmony with the natural surroundings. This boutique hotel includes indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a spa, restaurant and bar.
As well as these facilities, the hotel offers a screening room, a chapel, horse riding arena, organic vegetable garden, orchard, vine, a little olive grove, a small forest, a store with regional products and private parking.
This charm hotel at the heart of the Alentejo wine region would not exist if it were not for its core identity: wine production and, consequently, wine tourism. The magical winery is Torre de Palma’s ex-libris and the symbol of the hotel’s wine culture.
In addition to an extensive vineyard area, there is also a room filled with wine barrels, a wine tasting room, wine production area and numerous leisure and cultural activities organised around Alentejo wines.
Torre de Palma is approximately a 2-hour drive from Lisbon. Monforte is 10 minutes away by car, while Portalegre, Estremoz and Elvas (UNESCO World Heritage Site) are just 30 minutes away.
Badajoz airport (Spain) can be reached in about 1h10 minutes by car. The city of Évora, whose historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is 1 hour away.
ROOMS & SUITES

MASTER SUITE

At Palma restaurant, you will discover the essence of Alentejo transported to a new level. The authenticity and generosity of this Alentejo region surrounded by castles, meadows, and a unique natural beauty, was the stage and inspiration for Chef Miguel Laffan to create a concept of contemporary Alentejo cuisine.
Here, among the plains of the Alto Alentejo, you can find local passionate producers, of homemade sausages, natural cheeses, or carefully selected grazing animals.
It is in this environment that Palma, by Miguel Laffan, the Chef with a Michelin star in his curriculum, is born, offering a family experience of shared meals and well-being, enjoying the best of what the land has to offer.

Location
The estate of Torre de Palma is located in the heart of the Alentejo wine region, in Monforte. Enjoying the site climate of the Serra de São Mamede and a natural method, resulting in a perfect combination to produce unique wines, in harmony with nature.
The Vineyards
The several plots of vines are planted in balanced soils, giving privilege to natural methods. Carefully blended from a number of Portuguese indigenous varieties such has Aragonez, Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional e Tinta Miúda (for the reds) or Antão Vaz, Arinto and Alvarinho (for the whites).
This is a project crafted by the awarded winemaker Duarte de Deus, practically crafted by hand, in small quantities and with an artisan spirit.
The Winery
The winery which was inaugurated in 2016, is an ex-libris and the symbol of the Torre de Palma wine culture. The aim was to do a traditional winery, producing wine in an artisanally way.
In addition to an extensive vineyard area, there is also a room with wine barrels, a wine tasting room decorated by Rosarinho Gabriel, wine production area, where our wines are produced by the winemaker Duarte de Deus, and numerous leisure and cultural activities organised around Alentejo wines.
Wine Experiences
The Torre de Palma winery is open for tours and tasting as well as wine and food events. Additionally, every month the winery promotes a wine club event that aims to promote the best wines from Alentejo.
WINE HARVEST AT TORRE DE PALMA
Respecting the Roman roots at Torre de Palma, we celebrate wine in the “Lusitania”, as in the Roman period. The “vinalia rustica” marks the beginning of the harvest in August and it ends in October, celebrating the “meditrinalia”, the date on which the wine must is consecrated.
During the weeks of the harvest, participants will spend a day in the vineyard, participate in the harvest, and in the winery can learn more about the vineyards and grape varieties, choose the best grapes, and taste the wines.

Visit our Winery and Barrel Room and finish in the Restaurant with a combination of 4 moments thought in the richness of the Alentejo cuisine harmonized with the wines we produce.
TORRE DE PALMA WINE COURSE
Take the weekend to learn more about wines. On this course you will spend two mornings with our Enology team and learn about wine production, how to taste and how to harmonize wine and food!
Herdade Torre de Palma is located in the heart of the Alto Alentejo wine region, Portugal. This is a project focused on producing author wines, which respect the terroir, practically hand-made, in small batches and with minimalist intervention.
On the Torre de Palma wine course you will learn about the different grape varieties that make up our vineyard and the production process, from plant to glass.
The course includes a visit to the vineyards and the winery, tastings of different wines and grape varieties, activities such as blind tasting, and ends with the Wine at the Table experience to learn how to harmonize food and wine! The course is accompanied by our Oenology team.
TASTING OF EXCLUSIVE WINES
In this tasting, you will discover the most exclusive wines of our Winery: Reserva da Família Branco 2017, Musas Tinto 2019, Alicante Bouschet & Tinta Miúda 2019, and learn the unique stories behind these wines. The tasting is paired with regional products.
BARRELS WINE TASTING – EXCLUSIVE

WINES AROUND THE FIRE
Enjoy an exclusive and private wine tasting around the campfire. Start with a visit to the cellar and barrels room and continue with a wine tasting and tasting of regional products in the outdoor lounge, enjoying an atmosphere specially prepared for you and your group of friends.
HORSE RIDING CENTER
Ride a Lusitano horse in the hotel surroundings, visit the stables where children can help in the grooming and feeding of horses or experience a short ride in the estate’s riding arena.
At certain times of the year, Torre de Palma is host to equestrian raids and also organizes holiday camps with partners such as the Paulo Caetano International, Coudelaria de Alter and the Portuguese Federation of Equestrian Art.
