Palazzo Murat Positano

The main road through Positano that leads to the Spiaggia Grande is Via dei Mulini: you’ll find us at number 23. A charming nineteenth-century residence, Palazzo Murat is protected by a shaded gardenwhere Mediterranean scents of citrus will distract you from everything and everyone. An oasis in the very center of Positano.

We like to think of our hotel as a home from home and you will be regarded as a family friend. That’s why there’s nothing we care about more than transforming every single day of your holiday into its own special story, to be kept as a precious memory.

THE HISTORY
It is said that when Gioacchino Murat – king of Naples and brother-in-law to Napoleon – arrived in Positano in 1808 he visited this palace, and it was love at first sight. The hotel you see today, was the place where the king spent the hottest months, accompanied by his lovers, far from the intrigue and bustle of the Neapolitan court.

ROOMS & SUITES
The snow-white rooms of Palazzo Murat, spot-illuminated by the vivid colors of Vietri majolica combine the historical rigor of nineteenth-century architecture with design elements that give the environment a fresh and original style, like an Arco lamp or windows painted in a bold lemon yellow.

Each room is different from the others, but all offer an incomparable view of Positano and the painted majolica dome of the Church of the Assumption, symbol of the city. Once you’re here, you won’t want to leave.

DELUXE ROOM
The Deluxe rooms of Palazzo Murat are on the second floor of the oldest wing, in a panoramic location. This is why the view facing the sea and the houses of Positano cannot be bettered.

The large spaces and careful details make these a temple of rest: the 19th-century pieces have been restored and updated with fabrics ranging from lime to floral, while the floor alternates between burnished terracotta and colorful Vietri tiles. After a day at the sea, you won’t be able to wait to get back here.

AL PALAZZO RESTAURANT
Dining at the Al Palazzo Restaurant is like taking a multi-sensory journey through the finest food and wine Positano and Campania can offer. Lift the silver lid from your dish, and every bite will transport you through flavors, flying from the citrus groves of Amalfi to the beaches of Cetara, from the mountains above Positano to the fields of inland Cilento.

In his culinary creations, chef Giuseppe Forte blends the flavors of fragrant Amalfi lemons and of Cilento pulses, Paestum artichokes and Lattari Mountains buffalo mozzarella, to our own red basil, rosemary, and mint from the garden of Donna Carmela. After these flights of culinary fancy, it’ll be hard to get your feet back on the ground.

Giuseppe Forte, chef of the Al Palazzo Restaurant at Palazzo Murat, is only 37, but his cooking displays a character and maturity that have not gone unnoticed by the Michelin Guide.

After his early years in Capri, Positano, and the Cilento, Giuseppe flew to France and Japan before finally returning to Italy, where he made use of his skills in the best-starred restaurants in the land.

Giving in to the persistent call of Campania, he returned to Positano in 2016, becoming resident chef at Palazzo Murat where his cuisine has been focusing on enhancing the best of local excellence and slow food principles of the Amalfi Coast.

At the Al Palazzo restaurant you can try novel combinations of Asian ingredients with zero mile products, as well as classic recipes transformed into small culinary miracles that capture the citrus scents and character of Positano.

THE BAR
The bar at Palazzo Murat is in the middle of the hotel courtyard, a real al fresco loungeintended for leisure time chatting with friends, between an afternoon of sun at the beach and a trip along the coast.

Enjoy the wrought-iron tables around the old well and the stone seats covered in soft cushions, their colors echoing the local turquoise and aquamarine. And let a glass of wine or cocktail of lemon and mint from our garden do the rest. Sit down and order the specialty of the house from the barman: this is the life!

THE BREAKFAST
At Palazzo Murat we look after you from first rising. Under the gazebos and pergolas of our garden we serve a selection of sweet and savoury dishes all carefully made inhouse. The bread – white, wholewheat, cereal or crispbread – is fresh from the oven, along with our tarts and croissants.

If you prefer something savory, choose a tart of local vegetables, fresh cheese, smoked salmon, fresh-squeezed juice from our own oranges, fruit, cereals and local yoghurt. Not least are the jams and jellies made from the fruit of our own citrus grove, scented and sweet (opening hours: 7:30 am -10:30 am).

WEDDINGS IN POSITANO
A wedding in Positano is ideal. And a wedding at Palazzo Murat is truly magical. Our weddings are for the few: small, intimate, refined. Weddings of charm and not pomp, romantic and not banal.

People choose Palazzo Murat for their Positano wedding as it is quite simply the most beautiful location: taking photos on the pebble beach a few minutes from here or under the cascade of multi-colored houses which contrast beautifully with the bride’s stunning white dress – that’s a memory.

The hotel is full of stunning spaces which you can book for exclusive use during your wedding: the view of the sea from the lush garden, and romantic corners of the courtyard with the old well in the center. Don’t worry about the organization: our staff will help, they can work with you to take care of every detail, leaving nothing to chance.

THE GARDEN
A warm hug – that’s what the “Donna Carmela” garden of Palazzo Murat feels like. Surrounded on one side by the hotel, protecting you from the sun and the bustle of the Positano town center. On the other, a cloud of scents envelopes you through the day, from first waking up until dinnertime.

This garden used to be tended by our grandmother, Donna Carmela, who cared for the lemons, mandarins, and grapefuits that still hang from the pergola above your head; the bougainvillea that frames your balcony with fuchsia, as well as the hydrangeas, roses, and hibiscus flowers that greet you when you come home from the beach.

THE SWIMMING POOL
Palazzo Murat’s pool sits at the edge of the garden, with a sundeck around it, and a hydromassage corner. It feels good to know you’re in the center of Positano and yet able to enjoy this quiet, green corner of delight.

The view from here is spectacular: the turquoise water seems to blends with that of the sea; reach your hand out and you can almost touch the majolica dome of the Church of the Assumption. There’s no better way to unwind and relax in Positano.

The pool is open during high season from 10:30 am to 6 pm. Pool towels are available free for all hotel guests. You can order snacks, drinks, and gelato from our bar at any time of the day.

CUSTOM TRIPS
We can arrange guided tours and exclusive private boat or yacht trips to Capri, Ischia, Pompeii, Amalfi, Ravello, the Sorrento peninsula, or wherever you want to go. A walking tour of Positano to see the hidden corners of the town. Food and wine tours to get to know the specialties of the area and meet local producers.

TRANQUILITY IN THE CENTER OF POSITANO
Palazzo Murat strikes the perfect balance between the particular energy of Positano and the peace you’re looking for in an Amalfi Coast vacation.

On one hand you’re right in the center of the town’s pedestrian area, on the main road that leads in a few minutes to the Spiaggia Grande. On the other hand, the garden that surrounds the building protects it from the bustle and offers it privacy, silence, and absolute quiet.

Getting to other parts of the coast is easy: Piazza dei Mulini is a few meters away and from there you can take a bus to Praiano and other parts of town, and to the harbor from where you can take ferries to Amalfi, Capri, and Sorrento.
