Hotel Foresteria Baglio della Luna at Agrigento is a boutique hotel overlooking the Valley of the Temples, with 23 rooms and suites located in the ancient Foresteria and in the medieval watch tower. Hotel Foresteria Baglio della Luna preserves its fascinating historical value of a 13th century building, thanks to a restoration made in the 16th century by Camillo Camillani, an architect from Florence. It is a central building with in annex the medieval watch tower.

The inner spaces are decorated in a classical style respecting the tradition with antique furniture, precious decorative objects and authentic paintings on the wall, creating a charming atmosphere.

Staying at the Hotel Foresteria Baglio della Luna is enjoying the magic of an ancient history. The unchange charming history of the place can be read through its frescoes, its classy furniture, its original Sicilian paintings of the 19th century.

ROOMS & SUITES 
A big variety of rooms available at Hotel Foresteria Baglio della Luna. You can choose to stay in the medieval wing or in the exciting 13th century watch tower. There are 23 rooms and suites in our hotel, all non-smoking.

Each room is furnished with care and attention to detail, according to the dictates of the classic Sicilian style and the specific local architecture. The artworks on the walls and the antique furniture make every room precious and each stay enjoyable and elegant.

Each room is equipped with air conditioning, satellite TV, free Wi-Fi, safety box, minibar and hairdryer, king size bed (190 x 200 cm) that can be divided in twin beds on request. Sleep comfort is ensured by the Simmons mattress that senses the weight and adjusts itself progressively to it. The most comfort guaranteed.

During the medieval period the Foresteria was a wing of a convent where pilgrims and travellers were hosted. We decided to preserve the same use in the present Hotel Foresteria Baglio della Luna, with a choice between the Standard double room, the Superior Room, the Deluxe Room and the Suite.

In the middle ages watch towers were built as defense : from their top enemies on the sea could be discovered easily. Considering the importance of this place Hotel Foresteria Baglio della Luna has decided to increase the value of this 13th century building, historically iconic and very fascinating. The towers have been turned into hotel rooms of which a Deluxe room and a Suite.

SUITE
The suite room is on the first floor of the 1313 AD building. There are 2 levels in the room, the first one is a large living room with a parquet flooring, double window with view on the sea and on the Valley of the Temples.

Furnished with fine furniture, precious antique accessories and a comfortable sofa bed. On the second level there are the beds and also the bathroom made of fine materials and with a multifunction shower cabin. Room surface 35 square meters.

JUNIOR SUITE
The Junior Suite is at the first floor of the Foresteria, it has a parquet flooring with inlaid antique decorated tiles of the beginning of the 1900s, a cosy entrance, a double room with Provence style furniture and a small sitting area furnished in a simple fine way.

The bathroom is made of high-quality materials and hand painted maiolica in the typical Caltagirone’s ceramic style. Room surface is 30 square meters.

DELUXE ROOM
This room on the ground floor is furnished with elegant antique furniture and parquet flooring with inlaid antique decorated tiles. The walls are treated with a typical texture of the antique Italian villas, with 19th century Sicilian oil paintings.

Bright and with a wonderful balcony that looks out over the Mediterranean garden and over the Valley of the Temples. Comfortable bathroom furnished with fine materials. Room surface is 28 square meters.

SUPERIOR ROOM
The Superior rooms (18 to 20 square meters) are comfortable elegantly furnished. They are all on the first and second floor of the Foresteria. A large bedroom and a comfortable bathroom, all Superior rooms have a view on the Valley of the Temples.

THE RESTAURANT
Accademia del Buon Gusto, a restaurant in a very suggestive location with its high level culinary proposals. Hotel Foresteria Baglio della Luna is an ideal place for a real gourmet experience. Dining on a garden terrasse with a view on the illuminated Valley of the Temples is a unique experience of taste and beauty.

THE BEACHES 
The location of the Hotel Foresteria Baglio della Luna is a strategic place for a holiday in the peaceful nature and emotionful sea. Maddalusa beach is only at a walking distance of 500 metres from the hotel. At 8 km in direction Palma di Montechiara is the beautiful natural park of Punta Bianca.

At Realmonte, 11km from the hotel, the astonishing Scala dei Turchi, a cliff in marl stone with a sheer drop to the sea sculptured by the wind in an enormous blinding white staircase.

Further on in direction Siculiana the WWF Protected Oasis of Torre Salsa is a real pristine paradise. From Porto Empedocle ferry boats depart to the Pelagie Island, Lampedusa and Linosa, last outpost towards Africa, a real nature reserve of harmony.

MADDALUSA BEACH 
Maddalusa beach, at a few hundreds of metres from the hotel, is one of the most beautiful untouched beaches of the southern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. The beach is made of thin sand, water is crystal-clear. Here our clients can use the hotel’s services.

SCALA DEI TURCHI
The colour contrast at the Scala dei turchi makes the sky appear more intense. The sea shows all the colour shades between blue and green ; the golden sand, the flowering of different wild plants, all seems magic.

Here sun tannin is accelerated, due to the white stone reflecting the light that reaches all parts of the body. The stairs bended towards the sea, become paths that lead you to the top from where you can admire wonderful panoramic views.

MOUNTAIN BIKE TRIPS
At the Hotel Foresteria Baglio della Luna the clients can use mountain bike free of cost. The reception will illustrate a cycling itinerary along the coast and amidst the unspoilt Mediterranean bush.

ALEXANDER HARDCASTLE
When between 1920 and 1921, at the age of 48 and after a restless period of travelling through Europe, Africa and Asia, the British Army’s captain Alexander Hardcastle, arrived for the first time in the city of the temples, he was immediately struck by the intense light and by the sundown that set the monuments on fire.

He discovered the irresistible beauty of the Greek classicism and spent, in a period of only 12 years, a fortune in excavation works to bring back the temples to their ancient splendour. Thanks to him the Temples became part of the European touristic circuits.

AGRIGENTO
Renowned as the site of the ancient Greek city of Akragas, founded in 580 B.C., Agrigento was described by the Greek poet Pindar as “The most beautiful city of the mortals.

Built in between two hills, the Colle di Girgenti and the Rupe Atenea, the old town of Agrigento still entirely preserves the structure the Arabs gave it during their domination, with a labyrinth of small streets converging in Via Athenea, the main shopping street of the town.

The Cathedral and the old church of Santa Maria dei Greci are some of the many churches worth visiting. Other attractions are the birth house of Luigi Pirandello and the FAM, the permanent modern art gallery near to the Basilica dell’ Immacolata.

Those who want to discover the treasures of one of the oldest Sicilian towns have to drive only a few minutes to reach the town centre. In the surroundings of Agrigento on the coast and inland there are plenty of places to visit like the Castle of Siculiana, the Nature Reserve of Torre Salsa, the Scala dei Turchi, Sciacca.
