Casa Angelina Praiano

Sitting on the high cliffs of the Amalfi Coast, Casa Angelina offers a sublime slice of modern minimalism on the Mediterranean, with an emphasis on elegant simplicity and first-rate food.

An airy refuge, our boutique 42-room hotel is a place where guests can rediscover the forgotten rhythms of long, drawn-out days and easy, lingering evenings.

Our hotel serves as a sanctuary, bearing a fresh, pared-back aesthetic and a white-on-white palette that accentuates both the sea and sky blues outside and the contemporary artworks on display inside.

Understated chic is our design ethos and subtle details are our raison d’être: we like to make sure everything is immaculate, from the pillowy and pristine white Etro cotton sheets dressing your bed right down to the carefully placed garnish of garden-grown herbs on your plate.

ROOMS & SUITES
Each of our bright, light-flooded rooms come with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay, from L’Occitane and Jo Malone toiletries to Etro sheets to that all-important free Wi-Fi and Apple iPads exclusively for guest’s use. and in some rooms, notebook laptops exclusively for guests’ use.

Of course, comfort isn’t our sole objective; we also appreciate the value of good design. Clean lines, sleek contemporary furnishings and lashings of white underscore the rich tones of nature’s palette as visible from our rooms’ sea-view windows and terraces. Casa Angelina is an Adult-only hotel. Children age 12 and over are welcome to stay.

Set in old fishermen’s houses forged into the rock right by the shores of the small La Gavitella Beach, our Eaudesea Experience Rooms blend Casa Angelina’s chic all-white aesthetic with more rustic elements, including exposed natural rock, incorporated into the otherwise crisp white walls and ceilings.

These rooms are separate from the main Casa Angelina building (though the hotel is accessible via an elevator and a further 200 steps) and overlook La Gavitella Beach, a locals’ favorite and lively hangout with regular live music during summer.

They all feature a king-size bed, and range in size from 23 square meters(248 square feet) to 32 square meters (345 square feet).

These very unique accommodations are perfect for guests looking for a feeling of seclusion and being completely immersed in the lush Amalfi Coast nature. Guests who stay here can enjoy all Casa Angelina’s standard in-room amenities, including free wi-fi and Bang & Olufsen flat screen TVs and Apple iPads.

They can have access to the Ulysses Club Lounge, where it is possible to enjoy drinks and light snacks, as well as all Casa Angelina’s facilities (including the indoor and outdoor swimming pools, sauna and gym), which are all reachable via the hotel’s elevator PLUS approx. 200 steps.

SUITE
The 60 square-meter (645-square-foot) Junior Suite is our most exclusive retreat and the suite that best represents our ethos.

Located on the top floor, the Junior Suite takes advantage of its elevated position, yielding superb sea views from almost every angle. An all-white interior perfectly offsets the vivid-hued landscape outside and lends the space a feeling of uncluttered airiness.

The suite has its very own 30 square-meter (323-square-foot) terrace, which comes complete with a table, chairs, sunbeds and sun parasols so guests can sunbathe or dine al fresco in total privacy, and an oversized bathroom appointed with a bathtub from French designer Philippe Starck as well as a separate shower.

Inside, there is a generously proportioned king-size bed, a well-lit work desk, a flat-screen TV, iPod dock, DVD player and Nespresso coffee machine.

Guests who stay in the Junior Suite will also have access to their own exclusive Apple MacBook Air and Apple iPad – and complimentary Wi-Fi – for the duration of their stay. The lighting of the room can be adjusted to meet guests’ preferences via the easy-to-use control touch panels.

DINING
Campania, the region in which the Amalfi Coast is situated, is a place with a rich culinary heritage.

Besides being the birthplace of pizza, Campania has also gifted the world with such drooled-over Italian specialties as mozzarella di bufala Campana, capers, sun-ripened vegetables and juicy Amalfi lemons, as well as all manner of seafood-laden pasta and risotto recipes.

Our Chef strikes the sweet spot between custom and creativity, honoring the traditional Campanian kitchen while simultaneously striving to keep things fresh, modern and exciting.

One thing is for sure: whether you are enjoying a light lunch at the poolside or a tasting menu at our gloriously-located rooftop restaurant with breathtaking sea views of the Amalfi Coast, no meal at Casa Angelina is ever run-of-the-mill.

At Casa Angelina, we take our food seriously. And for us, good food starts with good local suppliers. Which is why we source the vast majority of our ingredients from the trusted producers and artisans of the surrounding Amalfi Coast and wider Campania region.

And it’s not just because we want to support the local economy, but because – lucky for us – Campania’s food produce is among Italy’s finest.

The region is, after all, home to some of Italy’s best cheeses (mozzarella di bufala Campana), citruses (those famously sweet Amalfi lemons), and tomatoes (pomodoro San Marzano DOP).

Fresh seafood is also in ample supply here, and the region is also a major exporter of pasta, olive oil and wine. With produce like this on offer nearby, we would be silly to look elsewhere.

Our ethos in the kitchen, meanwhile, is to pay heed to the past and respect all those long-standing Italian culinary traditions without being shackled by them, thus allowing for reinterpretations of Italian classics

Our gourmet restaurant Un Piano Nel Cielo – whose apt name translates to mean “a floor in the sky” – owes much to the Amalfi Coast’s natural bounty.

Not only does the surrounding landscape yield much of the produce that makes its way the kitchen, but it also provides the knockout sea, sky and coastal views visible from the restaurant’s top-floor terrace.

Large wall-span windows in the indoor dining space ensure that all guests, whether eating al fresco or not, can also enjoy the dramatic coastal scenery.

Menus at Un Piano Nel Cielo take a seasonal slant and borrow from the rich cultural tradition of Campania, with our Chef sourcing the bulk of his
produce locally to be used in reimagined classic dishes.

With the bountiful waters of the coast a literal stone’s throw away, fish naturally takes pride of place, with everything from tender sautéed squid to lobster spaghetti showing up on the menu.

The best cuts of locally sourced meat are also well-represented in carefully considered dishes such as pistachio-crusted rack of lamb and Marsala-marinated beef.

Multi-course tasting menus serve as a platform for the kitchen team to showcase their culinary vision with vegetarian tasting menu options available for non-meat eaters. Sommeliers are also on-hand to help diners pick the perfect accompaniment from the extensive collection of Italian and international wines.

THE EXECUTIVE CHEF
Leopoldo Elefante is the Executive Chef of Un Piano Nel Cielo, the renowned restaurant on the Amalfi Coast for its innovative Mediterranean cuisine and breathtaking views. Born and raised in the Campania region of Italy, Leopoldo started cooking at age 14.

Growing up in a family where food played a large role, Leopoldo’s attributes his culinary interest to the countless hours spent in the kitchen under the guidance of his mother and grandmother.

Leopoldo began his professional culinary career at the Hotel Management School in the historic town of Castellammare di Stabia in the metropolitan city of Naples, where he graduated with a Culinary Arts and Culinary Services degree in 2002.

From Rome to the Amalfi Coast, Leopoldo has held positions at some of Italy’s most notable restaurants, including three Michelin-starred Reale in Castel Di Sangro, where he worked under the guidance of Niko Romito, as well as two Michelin-starred Quattro Passi and Oliver Glowing.

Many prominent chefs have a mentor who teach them to push the boundaries, for Leopoldo that was the great master Gualtiero Marchesi, the first Italian chef to be awarded three Michelin stars, and recognized for his iconic saffron rice with edible gold leaves.

Not only drawing inspiration for his cuisine from his mentor, Leopoldo contributes his culinary masterpieces to exploring the fresh vegetation, colors, and smells of the great outdoors in his hometown of Campania.

In 2017, Leopoldo Elefante joined Un Piano Nel Cielo where he holds the position of Executive Chef at Casa Angelina.

Defining a balance between presentation and taste, Leopoldo’s elegant menu for Un Piano Nel Cielo features the freshest seasonal ingredients from the best local suppliers of the Amalfi Coast, while playfully presented to diners and complemented by a diverse wine collection.

To ensure Leopoldo’s cuisine reflects the culinary traditions of the Mediterranean coast, each dish is prepared with a gourmet touch.

THE WINE CELLAR
Amassed by our experienced sommelier for Un Piano Nel Cielo restaurant and reinvigorated with additions on a regular basis, our wine collection features 3,000-plus bottles representing some 600 wine labels.

It includes top vintages from well-known Italian producers as well as rarer bottles from under-the-radar regional winemakers.

While Italian wines dominate the selection, international producers are also represented with a particularly strong showing of French winemakers and an interesting selection of bottles from emerging regions and soon-to-be-discovered appellations.

Bubbles, both of French and Italian origins, also abound and include our own proprietary Casa Angelina Champagne brut and rose.

Produced for us by renowned French winemaker Pierre Mignon, our Casa Angelina champagne is served upon arrival to all diners in our Un Piano Nel Cielo restaurant – our way of saying benvenuto!

Our sommelier will be happy to help you navigate our extensive wine selection. Should you want to delve even deeper into our pile of pours, we can arrange for a wine tasting session and for customized wine pairings to accompany your dinner, based on your personal preferences.

THE TERRACE BAR
Our on-site bar promises world-class cocktails and majestic views. Some of the most popular seats are to be found on the bar’s cliff-edge terrace, which is furnished with a smattering of teak tables and sun-shading umbrellas, and provides prime vantage points for cocktail sipping while soaking up the exquisite coastal vistas.

Our expert bartenders Fabio and Alessio look locally for inspiration, mixing together refreshing concoctions such as the Limonce Mojito, a play on the classic mojito featuring white run, Amalfi Coast limoncello liqueur, lemon juice, mint, sugar and soda.

Aperol spritz, another classic Italian aperitivo, is also given a twist with our own propriety Casa Angelina Champagne (a blend made by Pierre Mignon) providing the fizz.

Seascape’s cigar selection, which features Cubans such as Habanos Cohiba 52, Cohiba 21 and Partacas, alongside our selection of vintage Italian grappas, rums, whiskey and cognacs as well as delectable chocolates from Tuscan artisans Amedei and the Parisian Patisserie Angeline, provide guests with some rather tempting after-dinner options too.

THE POOLSIDE RESTAURANT
At Casa Angelina, our poolside restaurant serves meals that spotlight the Mediterranean pantry. Think Italian summer staples: Caprese salad done right (with locally produced mozzarella di bufala, sweet juice-bursting cherry tomatoes and peppery rocket) and prosciutto di Parma with melon, as well as more filling mains such as Neapolitan-style meatballs and thin vermicelli pasta with just-caught clams.

Desserts offer the chance to indulge in some of the sweet dishes that southern Italy excels at, such as torta Caprese (a flourless chocolate and almond cake), chocolate semifreddo and ice cream or – if you fancy something a little lighter – pineapple carpaccio.

So whether you want to lazily graze your way through an afternoon while spread out on a sun lounger overlooking the rugged Amalfi Coast cliffs, or sit down for a long, lingering lunch with your other half, our casual restaurant has you covered.

THE BREAKFAST
Breakfast is a meal that is all-too-often reduced to a grab-and-dash affair. Not here. We put breakfast back on the pedestal it deserves, lining up a fully-fledged feast of early morning dishes for our guests.

Our extensive buffet selection includes fresh-from-the-oven breads, homemade cakes and savory tarts as well as perfectly ripe fruit, honeys and sweet preserves. We lay out an assortment of cheeses, freshly cut cured meats, salmon and salads too, and our chefs will cook eggs and other hot dishes to order.

We don’t slack on breakfast beverages either. Guests can choose between various tea blends and herbal teas, as well as freshly squeezed fruit juices, mineral waters and even Champagne – whether you’ve got something to celebrate or want to just celebrate being on vacation.

Our coffee too, which can be prepared whatever way you desire, whether a simple espresso or a frothy cappuccino, is carefully made by our coffee master Martino, who was schooled in the art of good coffee at his mother’s knee.

COOKING LIVE SHOW
Guests who opt for the one-on-one dining experience will be introduced to our talented Executive Chef, Leopoldo Elefante, who will curate a special three-course live show cooking meal at the rooftop terrace reserved on an exclusive use.

Upon arrival, the diners will be asked about their dietary preferences and expectations before preparing an elegant, yet tailored menu that showcases the chef’s gourmet touch.

Although the dishes vary depending on the available produce and diner’s taste, Chef Elefante’s cuisine will always reflect the culinary traditions and customs of the Amalfi Coast, creating a truly authentic and memorable Italian dinner.

Upon their arrival at the Rooftop Terrace, guests will be able to meet with our Restaurant Manager and our chef himself, who will discuss and provide an overview of the chef’s artful creations, including the origins, various preparation, and cooking methods involved.

Our Sommelier will also be delighted to help guests pair their dishes with the most appropriate wine from our diverse collection of Italian and International labels.

Casa Angelina’s exceptional rooftop terrace experience will begin to delight with its arrival experience, as guests can now easily access the exclusive space in a brand-new panoramic elevator.

Taking romance and intimacy one step further, the rooftop terrace underwent a redesign, creating a more elegant, yet cozy and laid-back look and feel.

THE BEACH
La Gavitella Beach is one of the finest beaches on the Amalfi Coast. Accessible from Casa Angelina via an elevator and 200 steps, this beach is one of only a lucky few Amalfi Coast bathing spots to face west, meaning it enjoys sunlight until late in the evening, when much of the rest of the coast has been cast in shade.

During sultry summer afternoons, sunseekers flock to this beloved locals’ beach to soak up not just the sun but also the lively atmosphere, with live music and watermelon slicing taking place here regularly.

Casa Angelina guests can come here to sunbathe and swim, or – if you fancy something a little more adventurous – to embark on a boat or canoe tour along the coast. If you need a cooling drink or a snack, the on-site Gavitella Beach Club & Bar will be happy to oblige.

Among the most popular refreshing snacks on offer is the sorbetto al limone di Praiano, a sorbet made with lemons and citrus fruit from Praiano.

A dedicated area of La Gavitella Beach Club is reserved exclusively for Casa Angelina guests, who can avail of complimentary sunbeds, umbrellas and towels, providing the ultimate beach club resort experience.

SAILING THE AMALFI COAST
Casa Angelina’s own private boat is provided exclusively for the use of guests who can hire the boat – together with a skipper – for half-day or full-day tours, and further explore the peaks, crevices and hidden bays of the Amalfi Coast.

Inspired by the traditional Sorrentine gozzo fishing vessel, our Casa Angelina boat was constructed by master boatbuilding craftsman who remained faithful to centuries-old construction techniques that ensure a smooth ride even when seas are less than smooth.

Measuring 10 meters (33 feet), the boat is capable of carrying up to 10 guests at a time with plenty of space for each passenger to stretch out and sunbathe. There are two inboard engines for maximum safety as well as two cabins with separate bedrooms, a kitchen, a shower, a small sitting area and a bathroom.

Our experienced captain can bring guests on jaunts to lesser-explored coves along the coast, to Positano or Amalfi (just a few minutes) and even to Sorrento and Capri (in about an hour).

Popular itineraries include a cruise around Capri, stopping at the Blue Grotto and the Faraglioni Rocks; voyages south to small coastal towns such as Maiori, Minori and Cetara; or a trip to the Ieranto Bay – a place of show-stopping beauty where the mythical Homerian Sirens were said to have sang their enchanting song to passing sailors.

THE ART
Our bright, all-white interiors are the perfect backdrop for showcasing contemporary art. We have an eclectic collection of intriguing, hand-picked pieces from relevant contemporary artists dotted all across our public spaces.

We’ve got whimsical and playful ceramics depicting sun and moon figures – the work of Mexican sculptor Sergio Bustamante. Injections of color come courtesy of Venetian Murano glass sculptures: glass realizations of Cuban artist Alfredo Sosabravo’s oil paintings and drawings.

We’ve got original pieces by Lebanese artist Gina Nahle, impressionist-influenced paintings by Argentinian-born Patricia Valencia Carstens, distinctive bronze sculptures by French artist Etienne and colorful patina-coated bronze frog figurines from Tim Cotterill, an artist who has earned the nickname “The Frogman” because of his preoccupation with the long-legged amphibians.

THE PHOTOGRAPHY
Our beautifully crafted hardback coffee table book mirrors the elegant simplicity of Casa Angelina itself. The book presents a photographic journey around the hotel through a series of evocative photographs capturing both the surrounding Amalfi Coast landscapes as well as more intimate close-ups highlighting our art collection.

The images are offset by ample white space and pleasingly arranged short excerpts of texts providing context about the barefoot luxe lifestyle and ethos Casa Angelina represents. For a closer look at the Casa Angelina coffee table book, download the digital version by clicking on the link below.

THE AMALFI COAST
Few places in Italy exemplify la dolce vita quite like the Amalfi Coast. With its dramatic crevice-indented coastline, piazza-filled medieval hamlets and manicured gardens, it seems a natural fit for travelers who crave lazy sun-drenched days and a dose of Italian glamor.

This two-night package promises perks to help you live out your Italian fantasy. Besides accommodation in a double room, a welcome drink and full buffet breakfast, guests who opt for the Fine Driving package will get to spend a day driving around the Amalfi Coast’s fabulously scenic twisting roads (where very hairpin turn reveals a seemingly more stunning sea view) in a stylish new Fiat 124 Spider – the ultimate automotive style statement.

Our Casa Angelina concierge will help you devise a route and itinerary for your driving excursion and will provide road maps to ensure you don’t get lost.

Many a great literary mind – from Renaissance scholar Giambattista Della Porta to Italian writer Renato Fucini to Pulitzer Prize-winning author John Steinbeck – has used their pen to profess the beauty of the Amalfi Coast.

And though much has been written about this little corner of Italy, no piece of text, no matter how eloquent, can quite compare to seeing it first-hand. Casa Angelina is located right in the heart of the picturesque steep-sided coastal area, in the enchanting village of Praiano between Positano and Amalfi.

Just around the corner from Naples, this 43-mile stretch of indented, cliff-lined coastline is blessed with beauty of the soul-stirring variety.

Here, dizzyingly steep mountains meet the glittering Mediterranean resulting in sheer sea cliffs, which serve as the improbable setting for picturesque seaside settlements.

Casa Angelina islocated in Praiano, an authentic gem in the heart of the Amalfi Coast, about mid-way between the more heavily-visited towns of Positano and Amalfi.

Use our hotel as your base and you’ll have all the delights of the region, from romantic mountaintop Ravello to the winding hiking trails of the backcountry, within reach.

PRAIANO
rich in history and art is mainly a place to take time out, to walk around, explore and wait for the sunset.

Our home base, Praiano is a modest-sized, low-key fishing village where whitewashed buildings cling to the cliffs, about midway between the more tourist-heavy towns of Positano and Amalfi. Once a hub for silk production and a favored getaway for the medieval Amalfi dukes, Praiano is steeped in local history.

The village, which is built into the rocky sea cliffs, promises privileged panoramas of the coast, sun-soaked pebbled beaches, several excellent restaurants and an intriguing local arts scene, including open-air ceramic installations and stone sculptures that take inspiration from the town’s craft heritage.

Oh, and it’s also home to what is probably Amalfi’s most famous nightclub: L’Africana, which is squirrelled away in a converted grotto down by the sea.

POSITANO
perhaps the most famous town of The Amalfi Coast, whose charm never fails to astonish visitors. A small corner of paradise kissed by the gods.

The beach resort town of Positano Ð just 15 minutes from Praiano – was just a quiet fishing village until John Steinbeck shone a spotlight on it in a 1953 article for Harper’s Bazaar and travelers began to take note.

A photogenic sprawl of sun-faded buildings set on a steep slope that tumbles down to the shore, Positano is an easy place to fall for.

AMALFI
the brightest among the gems in the treasure chest that is the beauty of the Amalfi Coast. Noble and beautiful queen of the coast.

A pretty resort town neatly sandwiched between the mountains and the sea, it’s hard to believe that photogenic Amalfi was once HQ for a powerful medieval maritime empire. A mere 25-minute drive from Praiano, it is one of the busiest and most bustling towns on the coast.

RAVELLO
the extraordinary experience of getting lost in the enchantment of lush nature. Among flowers and music a window on the infinite.

Perched more than 1,100 feet above sea level atop a mountain crag, this elegant pedestrianized town oozes romance, wooing goggle-eyed visitors with its gorgeous gardens and sensational views.

It’s also got a star-studded roster of names on its visitor books, with such esteemed figures as opera composer Richard Wagner and screen starlet Greta Garbo (as well as current well-known names including Hillary Clinton and Woody Harrelson) having visited here.

If you are open to the prospect of an exciting driving experience, then the nerve-testing journey from Praiano to Ravello – a jaw-dropping 10-mile jaunt along a twisting and precipitous coastal road – is well worth undertaking.
