A dream, suspended in time and in the privacy of a typical mountain chalet… far from the traffic and only a stone’s throw from the Via Lattea ski slopes.

A dream scented with the fragrance of Alpine flowers and ancient woodlands, of wood crackling in the fireplace and the rarefied air of the high mountains… and that conjures up the traditional flavours, at times forgotten, of a type of cuisine that celebrates the seasons.

In winter as in summer, the Chalet Capricorno is a focal point for guests of all ages. The countryside changes, the colours change, the pace changes, but the poetry remains the same in this rather special oasis where every weekend, every holiday is “a time to remember”… Different every time.

Paintings that depict nature in all its seasons, figurines that remind us of pleasant Alpine holidays in the 1930s and ’40s. Art and sophisticated antiquarian and modern pieces are ever-present features of your stay at the Chalet Capricorno. Silent accomplices of a holiday that can be played out in accordance with your own wishes.

THE HISTORY
A portrait of a bygone age framed by mountains, woods, fields and ponds, nestled between the ski slopes of the Cottian Alps, in the upper Val di Susa. In the midst of this, you’ll find IL CAPRICORNO, a charming mountain hotel which was opened in 1966 by the Sacchi family.

Since then it has been the jewel in the crown of Piedmontese hospitality, whose longstanding reputation is now in the hands of the Carezzana family of Turin, longterm devotees of the area.

It’s the perfect place for those who love old-style hospitality, where every detail and aspect has been carefully planned without ostentation. Here you’ll experience that special Alpine ambiance, so unique and so inimitable, and a tangible sense of calm and tranquillity.

Located 1,800 metres above sea level, it is the perfect destination for lovers of sport and winter activities, as well as those who love walking in the fragrant silence of forests in summer and enjoying the seasons as they come and go, transforming the colours of nature, nature that seems to reveal new secrets with every step.

THE ALPS
…They began with the soft fragrance of the first snows of November; with the intense fragrance of pine resin in late spring; with the clear blue sky contoured by the white, immaculate landscape; the magical palette of autumn colours…

Our love of the mountains also began with learning to have a humble approach in our daily lives, which doesn’t mean underestimating or sacrificing one’s strengths and abilities, but on the contrary, it means using them in an intelligent way, in learning to wait for the right time, in understanding the importance of sacrifice, in listening and sharing with others and then finally leaving, doing.

Our love and passion for the mountains has been passed on from generation to generation, through values and traditions, because one learns from the mountains that it is important not to ever lose sight of the peak. This is the strong message that parents pass on… to their children… and their grandchildren!

ROOMS & SUITES
The hotel’s ten rooms – each of which is named after a sign of the zodiac – are comfortable and imbued with beneficial tranquillity. The furniture, strictly hand-carved and planed wood, brings us back to the beautiful things in life, to the solidity of craftsmanship characterised by years of experience.

Every room is a small observatory that allows you to enjoy your time while taking your time, while your eyes take in the view of surrounding nature and see priceless glimpses of the Triplex, Bourget and Genevris mountains and forests…This is also part of feeling at home somewhere…

SALON SAINT GEORGES
Comfortable armchairs, dark pine (strictly handmade) furniture, wooden fixtures and fittings… A simple and refined space with a rétro look, which lies at the heart of the Chalet.

The landscape outside the large windows seems to revolve around it with its play of colour, dawns and sunsets…The St George lounge is a welcoming place where it’s nice to meet up after a day spent in the open air.

Before or after dinner, guests go there in search of relaxation, reading a good book or talking with other guests, with the right, well-deserved addition of a fine liqueur, an invigorating herbal tea or a valuable antique glimpsed from a corner of the room.

THE TERRACES
Our three terraces are true balconies that look out over the valley. They are inviting places to relax, where you can bask in the sun, enjoy a cocktail, abandon yourself to complete idleness, savour the pleasure of active days spent in close contact with nature.

Sitting comfortably, you can gaze at the peaks of Chaberton and the Grande Hoche, as if you were at a film that appears before your eyes in 3-D…

NASKIRA RESTAURANT
Allow yourself to be seduced by the pleasures of the dining table, of the cosy atmosphere of a place where an entertaining cuckoo clock tells the time for the sportingman’s dinner, for the most sophisticated delicious dishes, for romantic dinners, for convivial themed gourmet get-togethers and tailor-made events…

After an exciting day spent in sports activities and fun, after having spent time relaxing on the terrace, the Naskira – a restaurant which is also open to customers not staying in the hotel – is the perfect place to turn a break into a real experience and not just for one’s palate…

Designed to offer a sophisticated dining experience, it takes special care of young children too, offering them special seasonal menus.

TRADITIONAL CUISINE
Our cuisine is largely Piedmontese in character, and specialises in local delicacies and produce. It is hard to describe a particular cuisine, commonplace adjectives are not sufficient. That is why the chalet’s traditional dishes are a product of the passion and zeal that the location inspires in our chef.

The dishes that have made the chalet one of the most exclusive restaurants of the Susa valley have been given new life, thanks to the enthusiasm generated every time members of the family or longstanding customers walk in.

THE BREAKFAST
We feel that breakfast is a must so we make it a priority, thanks to the high quality and variety of the dishes we prepare every morning, specially for our guests. Our chef and his staff are already hard at work by breakfast time, preparing the choicest foods, so as to ensure that our guests start the day with the energy they need to tackle life at high altitude.

THE WINE CELLAR
Like our restaurant, our wine cellar boasts one of the best collections of exclusive wines produced in Italian and foreign vineyards. French and Piedmontese wines are particularly well represented. Our wine selection also includes wines from local vineyards that turn their grapes into delightful, delicious poetry.

NASKIRA CAFE
Enjoy pleasant, relaxed breaks at our HIGH ALTITUDE BAR, a meeting place where you can try tasty mid-afternoon snacks or sip an unmistakable cocktail, a liqueur from our excellent range, a good cup of coffee, a zodiac-themed herbal tea or a restorative hot chocolate… depending on the time of day and the climate.

ORSA MAGGIORE CAFE
The high altitude Orsa Maggiore (“Big Dipper”) cafe’ is the perfect place for skiers who aren’t ready to take their skis off just yet, allowing themselves a short break to enjoy a delicious vin brûlé or a cup of hot chocolate whilst admiring the magnificent view of the surrounding ski slopes.

The high quality of the food on offer ensures that the Orsa Maggiore can cater to the most sophisticated of palates; there is even a small selection of wines from our wine cellar and a vast range of drinks, satisfying even the most demanding customer.

THE NATURE
A natural observatory: that is how Chalet il Capricorno presents itself to guests who, in summer and in winter, as well as spring and autumn, intend to benefit from their stay.

It’s the very location – a belvedere on the peaks and woods of the upper valley – that makes it a special place for experiencing truly unique moments, designed for those who wish to experience the mountains in their every aspect.

Skiing, snowboarding and every kind of snow sport in winter when – equipped with skis or snowshoes – you can take off from the Chalet for exhilarating downhill ski trips or excursions along snow-covered trails.

Trekking, mountaineering, walking along trails and mule tracks in summer, in search of botanical treasures and national parks. A small, ancient world of “feelings and emotions”, at one with nature, where you can feel like a part of your surroundings rather than just a passing guest.

Summer walks will be in the discreet company of squirrels, deer and foxes – who often allow you to approach – and the fragrance of lavender, red and white rhododendrons, daffodils and edelweiss…

THE SUNRISE
The sunrises seen from our terraces are particularly spectacular, with the surrounding mountain tops tinged every shade of red by the sun. It’s a sight that leaves no one unmoved and charms even the most down-to-earth visitors.

FLORA & FAUNA
Thanks to its privileged position, unique natural spectacles can be admired throughout the year, such as the changing autumnal colours of the many larches that surround the chalet. Their beautiful warm hues soften the transition from summer to winter.

An encounter with the forest’s small wild inhabitants when out for a walk is equally charming. Thanks to the peaceful surroundings of the Capricorno, they often wander close to the building, such as the many squirrels that frolic on the garden’s pine branches in spring and summer.

THE VEGETABLES GARDEN
Capric’orto, our vegetable garden, lies behind the chalet. Every morning, our chef harvests the best produce the season has to offer, which is then used to enrich the day’s selection of dishes. In the past few years, vegetable gardens have become a must for restaurants of excellence that wish to offer their customers the best quality fruit, vegetables and herbs.

SKIING
Over 320 km of tracks suitable for beginners and expert skiers….It is the area of the “Milky Way”, the largest white carousel of the Piedmontese Alps, which embraces the Val Chisone and the Valle di Susa and radiates between Pragelato, Séstrière, Cesana, San Sicario, Sauze d’Oulx, Clavière, up to to the French slopes of Montgénevre.
