Faro Capo Spartivento

Reliable and familiar, the lantern comes on every evening, as it has done for the past 160 years. Capo Spartivento’s Lighthouse continues being a guiding light for sailors, a promise of safety for the contemplative and the troubled.

Without losing its soul, the quiet guardian of Sardinia’s south coast opens its doors and is reborn as an exclusive Guest House and 5 Star Hotel.  Instead of finding a reception, on arrival you will be met by the warm, professional welcome of our staff, a discrete liaison between you and the Lighthouse.

With few, well-suited fellow travellers, your journey will go beyond the walls of a Suite. You will have at your disposal the unlimited space of a Mediterranean horizon and days of an experience you will never forget, carefully tailored to meet your needs.

You will be free to decide at what time to have breakfast, which book to take from the bookshelf, from which corner of the terrace to admire the sunset. You will agree your lunch and dinner menu with the chef, and of course select the bottle of wine you prefer from our cellar.

FEEL AT THE LIGHTHOUSE.
Today, Faro Capo-Spartivento is the only Italian lighthouse that offers accommodation, promising a truly unique experience between its old walls: a new concept of luxury, where exclusivity and authenticity come together. For you to enjoy the Lighthouse fully and freely, during your stay our staff will be a discrete presence.

We will not offer a ready-made holiday, a performance arranged in every detail. Nature takes centre stage on Capo Spartivento’s rocky promontory and will offer you monologues of tranquillity and passionate interpretations.

From its dominating position overlooking this wild corner of coast, Faro Capo-Spartivento doesn’t offer you a holiday that follows a script, but your personal Lighthouse Experience in Sardinia.

GUEST HOUSE
Built on a cliff overlooking the sea, the Lighthouse dominates Capo-Spartivento’s promontory, a protected nature reserve that guarantees absolute privacy.

The space outside the Lighthouse, skilfully designed to make the building appear as the natural extension of the rocky promontory, offers endless different viewpoints from where to enjoy the spectacular surroundings.

At the front of the building, overlooking the sea, a 200 m2 raised teak deck features a 14×6 m infinity swimming pool with two Jacuzzis. At both sides of the pool, the elegant white leather seating areas are the perfect place to enjoy breakfast or sip a drink at sunset.

At the rear of the building, the 3000 m2 garden has a 12 m fireplace and a spacious lounge area. The central raised area features eight crystal gazebos, 16 m2 each, where guests can dine and enjoy the splendid views.

The main building has a 600 m2 surface and is a great example of architectural renovation. On the ground floor, the spacious 120 m2 lounge represents perfectly Faro Capo-Spartivento’s style: the white walls and the light colour of the stones in the vaults compliment the variety of designer objects and antique furnishings in the room.

The dining rooms, in the central part of the building, feature a magnificent convivial table that seats six and a large crystal table that seats ten. A cast-iron spiral staircase, by Neri, leads to an old underground tank, now used as a wine cellar.

Huge iron beams and ceiling to floor windows have taken the place of the walls that once formed five separate rooms, creating space for different elegant lounges with comfortable white Louis XIV style sofas and a large fireplace.

A stone spiral staircase leads up to the first floor where there are four Suites and a beautiful tea room with a fireplace; the room is dominated by the presence of an Indian trunk, which serves as a bookcase.

On the second floor, a large 250 m2 terrace surrounds the lantern, offering guests 360° views of the coast and the surrounding hills. The large four-poster beds are a comfortable place to lie in the sun or look at the starry sky at night.

A last flight of stairs allows access to the lantern room: a few steps from the rotating optic, a charming retreat in which to lose track of time, face to face with the infinite.

SPENDING THE NIGHT AT FARO CAPO-SPARTIVENTO
Exclusive 5 Star Hotel, Faro Capo-Spartivento offers four 35 m2 Suites, which can accommodate ten people. The two Suites overlooking the sea are furnished in modern, minimalistic style, with round hanging beds.

The warm light that floods the rooms through the windows overlooking the horizon, shines against the almost totally white interiors. The two Suites overlooking the hills both have a lounge area, with sofa and LCD TV, and a sleeping area, one featuring a Provencal style bed, the other a wrought-iron four-poster bed.

In the rooms, the floor to ceiling glass doors that close the bathroom and a large built-in wardrobe, add to the formal perfection of the space.

Faro Capo-Spartivento also comprises two mini apartments separate from the main building, obtained converting the structures that once hosted the tanks containing the gas to fuel the lantern.

The 50 m2 apartments are laid out over two floors: the lounge is on the ground floor and the sleeping area, featuring a glass panel through which you can admire the stars at night, is on the first floor.

All rooms have double bed, bathroom, full-length mirrors, mini bar, LCD TV, air conditioning, safe, change of linen, towels and bathrobes. The following services are included: internet connection, cleaning, a chef, waiters, transfers to Chia’s beaches.

RESIDENZA SEMAFORISTI
The renovation of Residenza Semaforisti, which opened its doors to its first guests in 2016, was the last phase of Faro Capo-Spartivento’s articulate restoration project.

The building, once the lighthouse keeper’s lodge, is the only military structure in Italy to have been converted into guest accommodation.

The holes of the machine gun bullets shot from the American planes during World War II can still be seen on its walls, testimony to the role the building played during the conflict.

Surrounded by the wild and unspoiled nature of Capo Spartivento, just a few metres away from the Lighthouse, Residenza Semaforisti is a separate and autonomous U-shaped building with a raised teak courtyard featuring a large central fireplace and plenty of places to relax.

Opposite the courtyard there is a bar area, a wood oven, which guests are free to use, and access to a large wine cellar, which once was a water tank. At the side of the building, a spiral staircase leads to the infinity swimming pool, with views that range from the mountains to the west coast up to Capo Malfatano.

The wine cellar, just as the swimming pool on the roof of the fuel tank building, is the result of an important renovation project. Residenza Semaforisti is all about conviviality, designed to share outdoor space, a characteristic feature inspired by the traditional Campidanese villas.

Guests are free move around and enjoy the outdoor space, in constant harmony with the natural surroundings.

EXCLUSIVE STAY AT RESIDENZA SEMAFORISTI
With a surface between 55 and 70 m2, Residenza Semaforisti’s four Suites comprise a lounge area, with sofa and LCD TV, and a sleeping area with a double bed.
Additionally, a 18 m2 double room has a bathroom with a shower and panoramic views.

All rooms are elegantly furnished and combine modern design with traditional elements. All rooms have double bed, bathroom with shower, full-length mirrors, mini bar, LCD TV, air conditioning, safe, change of linen, towels and bathrobes.

The following services are included: internet connection, cleaning, a chef, waiters, transfers to Chia’s beaches.

THE HISTORY OF CAPO-SPARTIVENTO’S LIGHTHOUSE
Built in 1854 by the Italian Navy, the Lighthouse of Capo Spartivento was one of twenty lighthouses wanted by Victor Emmanuel II of Savoy, whose wrought-iron initials still feature above the entrance door.

Target of the American planes’ machine guns during World War II, it was restored only once, right after the conflict. It housed the lighthouse keepers up until the 1980s, when the light signal was automated and their work no longer required.

It faded into oblivion for over 30 years, until 2006, when its new life began. A metamorphosis that started years ago, a childhood dream set aside for a long time, an ambitious project that has become reality thanks to the passion and dedication of those who put their heart and soul in it.

Today, with its guiding light still shining, Faro Capo-Spartivento is the first and only lighthouse in Italy that has been converted into a guest house: a project prized by the Italian Navy as a fine example of military architectural restoration.

THE LIGHTHOUSE RENOVATION PROJECT
Preserving the charm of a Mediterranean lighthouse by discreetly and tastefully renovating the interior and exterior, the materials and the furnishings, to make it a fine example of Mediterranean minimalist style.

The restoration of the Lighthouse, which lasted eight long years, was a substantial but at the same time respectful project that radically transformed the building’s purpose of use, while carefully preserving its historical value in a location that belongs to the community.

The final result is a structure in which environment, architecture and tourism come together using only locally sourced materials and following the principles of sustainable building.

Stone, granite, basalt, wrought-iron, wood and sea water played important roles both inside and outside Faro Capo-Spartivento’s building. Hot water and electricity are produced using solar panels.

Thanks to a desalinator, sea water can be used for the normal functions of the building, while a purification system allows to reuse the water for the garden. The cleaver layout, to accommodate the building’s new purpose, creates a new concept of lighthouse as a structure projected not just towards the sea but also the inland.

The result harmoniously blends in with the environment. During the day the Lighthouse dominates the natural surroundings, at night is shines in all its beauty, thanks to a play of artificial and natural light that animates the building.

Faro Capo-Spartivento is an architecture of light that after 160 years keeps shining bright and showing mariners the way to safety.

DÉCOR
The white minimalist style of the interiors and the essential lines of the outdoor spaces are the backdrop of a number of unique objects from different ages and parts of the world.

To those who know how to listen, all objects and materials tell stories of far-away countries and old craftsmanship traditions, as unique as those of the lighthouse they live in.

In the magical atmosphere of Capo Spartivento, breakfast around the pool is enjoyed at tables created from old Turkish carts; a majestic Indian trunk is the perfect place to keep books in the tearoom; in the bathrooms on the ground floor the basins are set into an old Mongolian mortar and the frame of a mirror conceals 42 Indian stamps, used to print textiles.

These unique manufactures live side by side with designer objects, such as the Murano red crystal lamps and Louis XIV white leather sofas that are found in the lounge. Without losing sight of the horizon that can be admired from its windows, every detail inside the Lighthouse is a tribute to the passion for travel.
