FORESTIS regards itself as a place of retreat surrounded by nature, where time can once again be sensed and filled with emotional value through physical and mental mindfulness towards oneself.

FORESTIS is located in a densely wooded area, 1,800 m above sea-level, with a view of the Dolomites. The area’s unique and outstanding natural character had already prompted the Austrian monarchy to establish a tuberculosis sanatorium at precisely this special site.

FORESTIS lies in a sheltered sunny location on the southern slope of the Plose mountain in the South Tyrolean Alps, directly opposite the impressive massifs of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The extraordinarily pure Plose spring water, fresh mountain air, many sunny days and mild climate, where Adriatic currents meet air masses from the North, have a favourable effect upon the health and well-being.

With FORESTIS, Teresa and Stefan have fulfilled a long-cherished dream. Influenced by their international experience, they approach this place with a fresh perspective and a multi-faceted understanding of hospitality. Together with their team they are hosts who live and love mindfulness towards people and nature.

THE ARCHITECTURE
The architecture of FORESTIS is inspired by the same natural features that were once decisive in establishing a sanatorium. The excellent water, air, sun and climate are reflected here in equally authentic materials.

Stone, from which the spring emerges, glass, as clear as the air, warm materials that warm like the sun, and the wood that grows best in this climate. Outside and inside, these natural materials are in harmony with each other, just like nature itself.

THE HISTORY
Where the Austrian monarchy once planned a climate spa with a Europe-wide reputation, the FORESTIS now nestles in the dense woodlands of the Plose mountain with the same appreciation for the uniqueness of this natural place of energy.

  • 1912 – Construction of a tuberculosis sanatorium: The Austrian monarchy wanted to build the tuberculosis sanatorium precisely here at Palmschoss, because of its excellent natural features. They were unable to realise the project as planned due to the chaos of war.
  • 2000 – The wondrous discovery: Many decades later, Alois Hinteregger discovered the old wooden building. The sunny location in the midst of dense woodland and the view of the Dolomites immediately entranced him.
  • 2009 – Opening of a hotel: The energy and lightness radiated by the location and the building soon inspired him to construct a hotel here. The excellent water, pure mountain air, sunshine and mild climate all encouraged him in this project.
  • 2020 – Start of a new era: Here, FORESTIS opens a new chapter. The four elements that were decisive in the selection of this site are taken up and reflected in the whole philosophy and architecture of FORESTIS with even greater depth – in a hideaway that lives in and with nature and focuses on the importance of time, naturalness, and simplicity.

SUITES
The Suites at FORESTIS bring nature into the room. The natural materials and clear style reflect the peace of the forest and surrounding natural world. Drenched in sunlight all day, the Suites offer an ideal refuge.

PENTHOUSE
The two-storey, 200 m² penthouse suite has a bedroom with kingsize boxspring bed and an adjacent walk-in closet with safe. The spacious living area is furnished with seating and TV, a bar, a large dining table, a guest toilet and an open fireplace.

A large terrace with table and seating opens to the south. The bathroom is equipped with bathtub, rain shower and separate toilet with bidet, a hairdryer and all the FORESTIS amenities. On the upper floor there is a private pool with sun loungers with dolomites views, a spruce wood sauna and a shower.

TOWER SUITE
The 55 m² Tower Suite with terrace features a bedroom with a kingsize boxspring bed, and floor-to-ceiling windows with a direct view of the Dolomites.

There is a walk-in closet with safe. The living area is equipped with TV, seating, minibar, desk and a traditional tiled stove. The bathroom is equipped with a bathtub and rain shower as well as a separate toilet with bidet, hairdryer and all the FORESTIS amenities.

DINING
Nature and local farmers supply the ingredients that are brought to perfection at FORESTIS, blending old-established traditions with the creativity of modern cooking. The FORESTIS cooking philosophy always follows the principles of variety, naturalness and authenticity.

THE RESTAURANT
The restaurant is step shaped. This way each table offers the desired privacy and at the same time an extensive view of the surrounding forests and sunsets over the Dolomites. Nature can be experienced here in the room through floor-to-ceiling windows.

THE EXECUTIVE CHEF
As a child, Executive Chef Roland Lamprecht was at home in nature where he acquired his great knowledge of the many treasures of the forests and meadows.

His career has taken him through award-winning kitchens throughout Central Europe and, finally, back to his homeland. At FORESTIS he can express his philosophy and his love of the forests in the most delicious way.

THE BAR
The bar and lounge with terrace are located in the historic building. The little fireplaces indoors and outdoors encourage regular evening get-togethers that fully reflect the warmth and hospitality of South Tyrol.

The Celts incorporated the meditative effect of open fire into their rituals. FORESTIS adopts their understanding of nature in its ceremonial creation of various drinks: using essences from the surrounding forests, such as herbs, nuts, and berries, as well as shrubs, barks, and fir needles, each drink becomes a little work of art.

SPA & WELLNESS
Nature has been generous to Palmschoss. The pure spring-water, the fresh mountain air, many hours of sunshine and mild climate make up the four foundations of FORESTIS. Following the example of the Celts and their natural doctrine, the FORESTIS Spa combines these four elements of nature with four trees: mountain pine, spruce, larch and stone pine.

THE SWIMMING POOLS
The indoor and outdoor pool brings the element of water into a new and beautiful combination with stone. The rock type dolomite is responsible for the exceptional purity of the waters of the Plose mountain, which also fills the stone pool.

THE TREATMENTS
The FORESTIS treatments are all based on the individually developed principle of the four trees, the four healing woods, the four healing stones and the four tree frequencies.

The FORESTIS facial and body care line is also based on the teachings of the trees. Each of these trees – mountain pine, spruce, larch and Swiss stone pine – possesses various active ingredients, frequencies and material substances that allow the human body to regenerate deeply and effectively.

TREE CIRCLE CEREMONY
The treatments for face and body are based on the FORESTIS tree circle. Intuitively you choose the tree that aligns to your current constitution. Sound frequencies create vibrations, which, together with healing woods and stones, create harmony and physical activation.

FACE
After a gentle cleansing and face scrub on the skin, a firming serum and a nutrient-rich DNA repair mask are massaged in using healing stones by means of a lifting facial massage.

BODY
An energy-balancing massage brings the body back into balance. The subsequent treatment with selected healing woods and healing stones promotes objective perception, supplies new energy, resolves blockages and establishes a connection between the conscious and the unconscious.

RETREATS
A retreat always means gaining a new openness to oneself and one’s own needs. The secluded location of FORESTIS is perfect for rapid regeneration and restoring well-being.

MOVEMENT
The pristine nature around the Hideaway FORESTIS exudes a unique tranquillity. The bracing air at an altitude of 1,800 m and the beauty of the landscape of the Puez-Geisler Nature Park are perfect for sports activities pursued independently or with a guide.

SKI-IN SKI-OUT
The FORESTIS is located at 1,800 metres above sea level in the South Tyrolean Dolomites and has a direct connection to the Plose ski region. A quiet forest path leads directly from the FORESTIS ski room to the slopes and to the valley station of the chairlift, which takes you to the mountain station on the Plose.

From there, you reach Plose’s 45 kilometres of ski slopes via numerous modern char lifts, ranging from easy to intermediate level. The Plose ski resort has the longest valley run in South Tyrol.

You will find cosy mountain huts offering local cuisine, hot drinks and great views of the surrounding mountains along the slopes. A trail from the slope takes you through the woods, directly back to the door of the FORESTIS ski room. Other options for skiing near FORESTIS include Sellaronda, Seiseralm and Kronplatz, each of which are about 60 minutes away by car.

OUR FOUR ELEMENTS
There are four natural phenomena on the southern slope of the Plose, pure and full of goodness. These four elements interact to benefit the body, mind and soul.

WATER
In Palmschoss, water of a globally unique quality springs from a natural source. This light spring-water is cleansing and renewing, and enjoying it leads to new vitality.

Around 50 metres above FORESTIS, the clear water of the Plose mountain emerges from an artesian spring. The rock from which it springs guarantees that the purity, quality and temperature of the water remains consistent throughout the year.

It is also responsible for its exceptional composition. With a dry residue of only 22 mg per litre and a pH-value of 6.6, which corresponds to that of human cells, it is among the purest and lightest waters in the world.

The human body is 60% water and the quality of the water that we consume makes a decisive contribution to our vitality and well-being. Light, soft water is substantially better than rich mineral waters for rinsing harmful substances from the body.

Furthermore, it contains a large amount of natural oxygen, which also promotes cell renewal. Thanks to the light, natural carbon dioxide, it restores the acid alkaline balance, and strengthens bones and teeth.

The connection between water and rock in nature is also adopted and reflected in FORESTIS. Stone carafes in the suites and spring-water wells at various sites, symbolise the drinking water making its way through the rock to the surface.

Another special feature is the natural, beautiful shaping of the stone in the washbasins, bathtubs and pools. The warm and inviting shapes emphasise the quality of the water and it vitalises the body through bathing, swimming and drinking.

AIR
The air at 1,800 m above sea-level has very unique qualities. Its purity and its special composition restore the body’s original strength and energy.

Far away from traffic and everyday life, the mountain air – free from harmful substances – boasts properties that high-altitude medicine describes as being especially conducive to the strengthening of the body.

The different oxygen level in the mountains is a real challenge for the body and brings the interplay of lungs and cardiovascular system into top form. Thanks to the clean mountain air, the lungs are better supplied with blood and the body absorbs oxygen more effectively.

As a result, the improvement in oxygen transportation stimulates the organism to form an increased number of red blood corpuscles and blood flow improves, due to which the cells are supplied with more fresh oxygen. Cell regeneration takes place more swiftly.

The excellent air quality is our greatest asset. FORESTIS combines its clarity with the transparency of glass. The floor-to-ceiling windows made of natural ore materials emphasise the air’s purity, which gives people new strength, as well as wonderful views of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site.

SUN
The sun is the element of happiness and zest for life. The many hours of sunlight in the South Tyrolean Alps encourage health and well-being. With about 300 sunny days per year, Palmschoss in South Tyrol is one of the most favoured areas of the Alpine region.

FORESTIS is located on the southern slope of the Plose mountain and thus enjoys direct sunlight into all its rooms from morning to evening. The sun has an extremely positive effect on body and spirit. Sunbathing has been proven to reduce cholesterol in the blood.

This ensures the release of the essential vitamin D, which in turn promotes the absorption of calcium and thus strengthens the bones. Due to the heat, the blood vessels dilate and blood pressure sinks.

The light of the sun has a particularly pleasant effect on one’s mood, spreading feelings of happiness, joy of life, fresh drive and ease. In FORESTIS, the warmth of the sun and the comfort radiated by its fire are expressed in soft fabrics made of local materials.

The untreated, purely plant natural materials of cotton and linen also snuggle pleasantly against sensitive skin and underline still further the calming effect of the sun. One feels a sensation of satisfaction and joy.

CLIMATE
The mild climate in Palmschoss and the fresh air in the forest, which penetrates into every room through the wood, promote sleep and contribute to sustainable regeneration.

On the Plose mountain, warm, salty winds from the Mediterranean region meet cool northern currents from the Brenner Pass. This interaction produces a climate in which the vegetation thrives profusely, and the body is gently exercised by the combination of mild temperatures and a high location.

One feels a pleasant tiredness, one sleeps longer, and better and holistic regeneration starts to take place even after just a short while. This climate is especially beneficial for people with allergies, breathing problems or skin complaints.

The forest, which surrounds FORESTIS is the major feature of the landscape here on the southern slope of the Plose and contributes to the swift stress reduction experienced by the body in this climate region. The Central European forest was regarded as a major remedy by the Celts.

They knew how to use the terpene-rich air of the forest, which is now known to strengthen the immune function of the cells, the energy that emanates from the living trees, and the variety of plants to prevent illnesses, for healing, and very generally for the maintenance of mental balance and well-being.

This old knowledge of the power of the forest, which is in turn essential for maintaining this favourable climate, is thoroughly incorporated into the philosophy of FORESTIS. In the spa, every type of tree is appreciated and used for its special qualities.

Our forest cuisine draws on the rich variety of ingredients from our forests and the surrounding natural world. The local wood with which all suites are furnished also influences quality of sleep with its essential fragrance.

The direct experience of the forest, which bestows an abundance of sensory impressions, combines with the climate to prevent chronic illnesses or heart attacks, strengthen the immune system and improve the mood, producing a positive interplay that allows holistic regeneration.

THE PERFECT DAY
The four seasons make their mark on the South Tyrolean mountains. Snow-covered winter landscapes, the blossoms of spring, hot summers and the colourful autumns enable a variety of natural experiences in the annual cycle.

THE CLARITY OF SPRING
The spring air in the mountains is especially clear and pure after the cold winters. The altitude – FORESTIS is located at just under 1,800 m above sea-level – and the dense woodland also ensure that the air has a composition which high-altitude medicine regards as ideal for strengthening the lungs and circulation.

THE PEACE OF THE FOREST
While the leaf buds of the trees are still tightly shut, the first signs of spring start to stir on the forest floor. The chef, who knows the area well, seeks out fresh wild herbs for the evening menu and precious ingredients can already be found here and there while strolling through the quiet spring forest.

THE DISCOVERY OF LIGHTNESS
The sun is the element of healing power. Its light not only brightens up the landscape but also people’s moods. Its warmth enables nature to grow and shifts the focus of life outdoors for people and animals.

SUNRISE IN THE DOLOMITES
At half past three it is time to wake up. The little hiking group sets off for the peak. A headlamp shows the way in the darkness. Waiting and warming up with herbal tea. The fireball rises slowly from behind the Dolomites. The sun’s rays first touch the clouds and then penetrate ever deeper into the valley over the mountain peaks.

A TIME OF CHANGE
Brilliantly coloured changes appear everywhere in nature in the mild climate of the South Tyrolean autumn. The woods turn red, yellow and brown, the last ripe grapes are harvested in the vineyards, while in the towns chestnuts and fresh autumn fruits are sold at farmers’ markets.

SLEEPY TIME
A pleasant tiredness spreads with the changing of the seasons. The late sunrise and the often-misty hours of morning entice one to sleep longer. The essential scent of wood has been proven to lower adrenalin levels and has a positive effect on healthy sleep. The body regenerates and pure recuperation takes place.

THE PURIFYING OF WINTER
Winter sees the landscape around FORESTIS covered with snow and ice. Sunny days alternate with periods of heavy snowfall. The cold purifies nature and immerses the woods in a tranquillity that brings profound recuperation to those out walking.

THE POWER OF WATER
Getting out of a warm bed in the morning and immediately reaching for a large glass of water: the peace of winter in the mountains improves one’s awareness for the needs of one’s own body.

Above the hotel, the spring-water emerges from the Plose mountain: it is appreciated for its purifying effects resulting from its fine mineral content. This water is also regarded as ideal for the preparation of tea ceremonies. After spending time outdoors, a cup of tea in the afternoon welcomes you with its pleasant warmth.
