POMPEI & VESUVIUS EXCURSION
Following the eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius in the year 79 A.D., Pompei lay buried and forgotten for hundreds of years. The town is high on the list of the Wonders of the World and the excavations begun in the 18th Century are still being carried out today.

Our guide will take you slowly through some of the ancient streets of Pompei where you can see Baths, Forums and Villas built by the prosperous Romans in the year 80 B.C. Marvel at the fabulously preserved Frescos which adorned the walls and floors of the Villas.

Even if your interests do not lie in history, this is an archaeological site that cannot fail to impress you. Mount Vesuvius dominates the Bay of Naples. It is the only active volcano on the mainland of Europe. The slopes were once covered with vineyards and woods and provided an innocent looking backdrop for the bustling town below.

The coach will take you to within 1.000 metres of the top of Vesuvius and from here you can walk to the very top and admire the splendid panoramic views across the bay (From the blackened crater rises a single plume of smoke, a reminder that the volcano is only sleeping for now…).

AMALFI DRIVE
The “Amalfi Drive” is said to be the most spectacular road in Europe and from Sorrento, the winding cliff top road offers breathtaking panoramic views at every bend.

Each spot is a world of its own, a fantastic world which dazzles the imagination and inspires unforgettable impressions. First stop at Amalfi, which gives its name to the whole coast on which it lies. Once a thriving Marine Republic, powerful and prosperous and now a thriving holiday resort.

The unmistakeable cluster of white tightly packed houses rising up the hillside is dominated by the beautiful Cathedral, which stands superbly on the top of a great flight of steps leading up from the main square. Housed in the magnificent Cathedral are the remains of the Patron Saint of Amalfi and also Scotland – Saint Andrew.

From Amalfi we visit Ravello, which nestles eleven hundred feet above the sea in the hillside. We visit the Villa Rufolo which gave the musician Richard Wagner the inspiration to create one of his most famous operas, Parsifal.

CAPRI & ANACAPRI EXCURSION
Sail across the bay of Naples for the start of an unforgettable day. For so small an island, about 4 miles long and 2 miles wide. Capri has had much said, sung and written about it. First you will visit the fabulous villa of Dr. Axel Munthe, a Swedish doctor whose best selling book “ Story of San Michele” tells of his time on Capri.

His villa was built with the remains of Roman ruins; there is a beautiful shady garden with terrace offering splendid views of the island. This is optional and the entrance fee should be paid direct to the guide.

You then go down to Capri town which is very chic with shops, hotels and restaurants along winding streets. The main square Piazza Umberto I has a pretty white church and several open-air cafes where you can sit and watch the world drift by.

Leading off the square are medieval looking alleyways and arcades full of shops selling the handicrafts of island, clothing; jewellery made from coral and gold, shoes and ceramics. Admire the colourful gardens of Augustus overlooking the famed Faraglioni Rocks and Marina Piccola where Gracie Fields once lived.

There is free time for you to go off and admire the elegant boutiques, stroll along the cobbled streets or simply relax on the beach. There is so much to see and do on this tiny island paradise you will be sorry to leave.

ISLE OF ISCHIA EXCURSION
Ischia with its magnificent flora, is known as the Green Island. This volcanic island is dominated by Mount Epomeo. Our tour starts at Sorrento port with a 50 minutes jetfoil crossing of the Bay of Naples to Ischia.

On arrival, there is a tour of the island, with a stop at the Belvedere to admire the magnificent view over the Citara Bay(possibility also of tasting local produce). Continuation of the tour to S. Angelo about 12.30 p.m. and free time with possibility of remaining on the baeach.

Clients can choose between going to the thermal centre, which has a restaurant, sauna and various warm swimming pools, or going to the famous garden, the Mortella, situated in the San Francesco district, run by Susanna Walton, the widow of the English composer, William Waltons who came to live on Ischia in 1949.

There are more than 3000 types of plants in the garden, and there are also fountains and pools with aquatic plants. There is a guided visit. Departure from S. Angelo for Ischia port is at 16.00, where as departure the Gardens is at 16.40.

SALERNO & PAESTUM EXCURSION
In medieval times Salerno was the world capital of medicine, the Monastery of the Benedictine monks who probably founded its medical school, offered the best education then available.

One of the most famous medical texts of that time was the “Regimen Sanistas Salerni” written here in Latin and translated into almost every European language. In more modern times Salerno is best remembered for the Allied troops landing on its beaches, during the second world war.

To the east of Salerno, after the headlands of Pontecagnano, Battipaglia and Eboli, is Paestum, which is one of the most important archaeological sites in the country. Here you will see some of the best preserved Greek ruins, architecture and monuments, such as the Temple of Poseidon (Neptune) the Basilica dating from the 6th Century.

In the museum you can admire the Tomb of the Dive a magnificent example of Greek painting, representing a funeral banquet. The did of the tomb depicts a young man diving into the water.

HERCULANEUM EXCURSION
Our journey takes us along the coast road through Castellammare di Stabia and out along the motorway to Herculaneum. Herculaneum was destroyed along with Pompei in 79 A.D., and was rediscovered in 1709. It was a residential town without Pompeii’s commercial importance, surrounded by the villas of wealthy Romans.

When the catastrophe of 79 A.D. occurred Herculaneum was submerged under a torrent of mud and lava that hardened into a soft tufa (a kind of course rock) that preserved many of the wooden parts of houses and household objects which can be seen today.

A large portion of old Herculaneum is still buried under the modern town and even today excavations are going on to discover what treasures lie buried under the rock.

CAPRI PRIVATE TOUR
Transfer from Antiche Mura by car to the fishing port of Massa Lubrense. On board our comfortable wood boat (Gozzo Sorrentino) you will experience an unforgettable trip discovering Capri. Sailing around the island we give the opportunity to see the Blue Grotto (optional).

We do provide beach towels and masks to swim in some of the most beautiful beaches of Capri. Before to dropp you off (if you wish) for approx 4 hours at the port of Marina Piccola, our skipper serves light snacks and soft drinks free of charge. In the afternoon we leave to continue the tour around the island and we return to Antiche Mura by 6.00/6.30.

HIKING & TREKKING
You will have the fantastic occasion to experience the best Hiking and Trekking Guided Tours of the Peninsula. Please find the list below:

IERANTO: “THE BAY OF SIRENS”
According to a Neapolitan writer “Ieranto comes last. In Ieranto the world ends” just to attend a literary suggestion, here conceived in “Tempo di cicale”. By the way, it is said that many voices together, human and animal, make a place in the heart: The Bay looks like from the ridge of Mount St. Costanzo, a privileged point on that stretch of the polychrome sea.

And then the songs of the mythical winged creatures, they wanted to seduce Greek heroes and Latin poets and even seduces here, among Ieranto and the Lubrense Ateneo.

In the middle of a coastal village, vaguely of Amalfi, a cup of water, raised on Capri, is the path of Ieranto. It moves from the picturesque groups of houses of Nerano to join , step by step, with rumours of a mythical and literary landscape , alive and popular.

A vast horizon, therefore, binds in one the islets of the Sirens (today Li Galli) and the crested rock (then Tre Pizzi): rock icons and bird sanctuaries, now as in the days of Ulysses.

PUNTA CAMPANELLA: A TERRACE ON CAPRI
An ultra-millenary pavement, a rocky ridge, a devotional stairway: here the obliged sides to tie the vertices of this must hiking triangle. Go from tops to tops, from the promontory of the Campanella to the Mount San Costanzo, can evoke mythical foundations and ancient pilgrimages, or perform again, as the crops of the men and the natural vegetation return, a landscape of days gone by Benedictine vineyards, olive trees of Minerva and Jupiter’s beards.

THE PATH OF THE GODS: FLYING OVER THE AMALFI COAST
Among the “high” routes of the Amalfi coast, this hike moves from Agerola to Positano and is by far the most famous hike you can do. The reason for this fame (which is recognized all over the world) is the constant ups and downs, the fantastic sheer vertical drops and lands cultivated in terraces.

You arrive at the final destination and the highlight of this hike, Punta Campanella ,which is apparently united to the stunning island of Capri. From here viewpoint to the west we see siren archipelagos and swirling shapes. There is much to explain here regarding the colours of the Mediterranean lands, known as our “Path of the Gods”.

FAITO: THE MOUNTAINS ON THE SEA
In the woods of Faito, so called because of the extensive beech woods, all possible paths pass on the giant mountains, Lattari, a record that shares not only in the alpine, but in the different and natural environments.

It is the ” mountain on the sea”, or rather the gulfs (Naples and Salerno): a real treasure of biodiversity protected by the Lattari Mountains Regional Park. Beyond the forest cover there is the priceless descent to S. Maria del Castello, a hamlet between the worldly Positano and the industrious Vico Equense.

Info: Departure and return to Castellammare, or to other towns of the Sorrentine Peninsula served by the Circumvesuviana line, for the discovery of the biggest massif of the Lattari Mountains. For the longest trek, return to Vico Equense from S. M. del Castello by public transport (EAVBUS).

CAPO DI SORRENTO: A BELVEDERE LONG 2000 YEARS
The archaeological evidences of a glorious time, the most ancient times, greet welcome and accompany hikers from the heart of Sorrento to Capo. Mounting and descending the fruitful hills, so bitter-sweet, between Priora and Massa Lubrense , comes the discovery of the humble farmer’s gesture and the elegant coast monument.

Finally, beyond the walled gardens, among the gorse stumps, there is the natural “set” inaugurated by an anonymous Roman landowner, heading to the Queen Giovanna, and then consecrated by Sophia Loren and Vittorio De Sica in “Pane, Amore e …”.
