SALVATORE FERRAGAMO MUSEUM
Until today, the story of Salvatore Ferragamo is one of the most exciting of its kind. Set in Hollywood, it’s about the shoemaker of the stars, how the Americans would call Salvatore Ferragamo fondly, about Italian fashion, about friendships with famous actresses and about his enormous success on the movie sets.

At the age of 30, Salvatore Ferragamo returns to Italy and chooses Florence as his second home. Here he finds a city with a long standing history of art, elegance, refined taste for beauty, inspiring shapes, fine materials, and extraordinary craftsmanship.

A symbol of Florentine heritage, the Palazzo Spini Feroni becomes Salvatore Ferragamo’s store and workshop in 1938, and a home to the creation of masterpieces of shoes, fit for the nobility, the international diplomacy, and the glamorous cinema world.

Amongst his clients were Greta Garbo, Audrey Hepburn, Claudette Colbert, Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall, Anna Magnani, and Sophia Loren. Until today, the Palazzo Spini Feroni is the seat of the fashion house Ferragamo and its impressive museum.

Located in Piazza Santa Trinita and surrounded by Florence’s divine shopping boutiques, the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum beautifully displays the life of a genius, who brought world-wide fame to Italian fashion.

Legend has it that Beatrice, Dante’s beloved, came to the cellar of the palace to fetch water in a well that still exists today. A charming space, which features an exhibition of shoe models derived from innovative materials (during the war, when leather was scarce, materials such as raffia, cork, and transparent chocolate foils were used).

Salvatore Ferragamo wrote in his biography: “My female clients are divided into three categories: the Cinderella, the Venus, and the aristocracy. A Cinderella shoe is smaller than size 6. Venuses fit a size 6, and the Aristocratic woman uses 7 or above.”

As you exit the exhibition, don’t miss the unique boutique with a selection of precious imitations of vintage models, designed especially for Judy Garland, Greta Garbo, and Marilyn Monroe.

THE CHIANTI ROAD
Would you like to discover the heart of the Chianti Classico, following the Italian myth from the XIII century? We leave early in the morning from Marina di Scarlino, direction Florence, to reach the wine town Impruneta with its Santa Maria Sanctuary.

After Strada in Chianti, following the SS 222 direction Siena, we arrive in Greve in Chianti, with its beautiful medieval square and historic cellars, fit for a tasting of the best vintages. For a medieval feel, we continue to Montefioralle, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, and walk along its quiet streets and ancient vineyards.

This charming land holds endless surprises: after only a few kilometers we are in Volpaia, a perfectly preserved medieval village, famous for its castle and the magnificent wine cellar (in May the village is filled with the fragrance of thousands of roses).

After Radda in Chianti, home of the Chianti Classico Consortium, our final stop takes us to the 11th century church of San Giusto in Salcio. A day filled with endless impressions of beauty.

FLORENCE & SIENA
How about a relaxing day immersed in the splendor of Tuscany? Imagine history, nature, and flavors of exquisite cuisine. We propose a classic itinerary of 8 to 9 hours, along one of the most scenic roads in Italy: Firenze Certosa, Impruneta, San Casciano in Val di Pesa, Tavernelle Val di Pesa, Colle Val d’Elsa, Monteriggioni and Siena.

If you would like to marvel at the open sky, the spectacular San Galgano Abbey wouldn’t be too far away. Absolute highlights are the culinary stops. Our concierge will select the best restaurants, wine bars and wineries for you.

Many unforgettable events take place in Florence during this most beautiful time of the year. In April the renowned Mostra Internazionale dell’Artigianato, the International Handcrafts Trade Fair, takes place at the Fortezza da Basso. We highly recommend the annual arts and opera festival Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, happening from late April to June.

UGOLINO GOLF COURSE
Ugolino Golf Course is one of the most impressive and beautiful natural golf courses in the world in Italy and offers different levels of difficulty.

In 1889 the English colony of Florence founded the Florence Golf Club and the first Italian Golf Association. Originally founded in the Cascine area, the golf course was transferred to the Osmannoro area after the first world war.

Between the 20’s and 30’s the idea of creating a new golf course took shape and in 1933 the Ugolino Golf Course was built on the Chiantigiana street by the English architects Blandford and Gannon.

The American author Chris Santella names the Ugolino Golf Course in his well known book ‘50 Places to Play Golf Before You Die‘. Tee times at the Ugolino Golf Club should be booked in advance to ensure the special conditions available to guests.

FLORENCE WITH THE FAMILY
Florence has much to offer for visitors of all ages. Especially for children we suggest the following two exciting museums. The Galileo Museum unveils discoveries and inventions of the father of modern science, including laboratories and interactive and fun activities.

For sports fans we suggest the Sports Museum of Football (twenty minutes from the center of Florence), with a wealth of documentation on the history of the Italian National Team and its champions. Did you know that soccer, rugby and football originated in Florence?

The gorgeous Lungarno Suites Hotel offers a world of relaxation for the family, privacy and elegance. Imagine everyone relaxing together on the couch, raving about the delightful day in Florence. That’s what it’s all about!

STREETS OF MARBLE
Perfect balance between man and nature. Recognized as a World Heritage Site by Unesco, Val d’Orcia had long been celebrated by the painters of the Sienese school. The route that crosses the province of Siena and Grosseto, displays the most characteristic landscapes of Tuscany and a land full of beauty and history.

Hills dotted with cypress trees, the “source square” of the Vignoni Thermal Bath, the Renaissance dream of Pienza and San Quirico d’Orcia in its Romanesque splendor. On the culinary side we recommend pici pasta, a glass of Brunello and some Tuscan pecorino cheese DOP.

CRETE SENESI
Enjoy an unforgettable day trip through Southern Tuscany and discover the Crete Senesi with its beautiful range of ancient hills and woods, medieval villages, fields of sunflowers, olive groves, cypress trees and vineyards.

Start with a visit to Siena, admiring the masterworks of the frescoed walls of the Town Hall of Siena, the “Allegory of Good and Bad Government” from 1338. Later, traveling towards the well-preserved mediaeval village of Asciano, you will recognize the gentle hills of clay with its knights, pilgrims, peasants and animals, pictured by Ambrogio Lorenzetti. Enchanted landscapes, silence and beauty wherever your eyes rest.

Traveling through the Ombrone Valley, you reach the gothic roofless Abbey of San Galgano, with its mystic atmosphere and the many legends surrounding its origin and history. How about a gourmet lunch in Montalcino, comprised of a glass of Brunello wine, local DOP Pecorino cheese, Chiusure artichokes, and a taste of white and black truffles?

Not too far away lies the Unesco World Heritage site of Pienza, a masterpiece of the Renaissance, rebuilt by Florentine architect Rossellino. Intended as a retreat from Rome, the village represents the first application of humanist urban planning concepts.

MUSEUMS OF FLORENCE
Giotto, Fra Angelico, Masaccio, Pietro della Francesca, Botticelli, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, Caravaggio, Titian…The famous artists of the museums of Florence are yours to enjoy through the extraordinary services of the Lungarno Collection.

CHIANTI
The Chianti was the first Italian DOC wine, owing its name to the rolling hills between Siena and Florence. The historic area of the Chianti Classico is represented by the famous emblem of the Black Rooster on the wine label.

Our itinerary proposes a choice of important locations for production and vine tasting, such as Impruneta, Bagno a Ripoli, Greve in Chianti, Castellina in Chianti, Radda in Chianti, and towards Siena: Colle Val d’Elsa, Sovicille, Monteroni d’Arbia, Murlo and Rapolano Terme.

TIGNANELLO
Welcome to the vineyards of Marchesi Antinori. In 1385, Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Guild of Winemakers and received an emblem attesting his membership. This coat of arms can be found today at the entrance of the famous Antinori wine cellar in Florence, dating back to 1957.

BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO
Utmost personality and character. The exceptional climate and terrain have transformed the town of Montalcino into the Mecca of winemaking in Italy. The itinerary includes a visit to the best wineries in the area, immersed in a landscape of impeccable beauty. Next to the Brunello wines, the area is famous for its production of high quality oil, honey and cheese.

NOBILE DI MONTEPULCIANO
The art of winemaking in Montepulciano dates back to Etruscan times and already in the Middle Ages Mons Politianus wines were among the most popular.

In the mid-sixteenth century, the Vino Rosso Scelto di Montepulciano was the favorite wine of Pope Paul III. Our itinerary offers a vine tasting in the most famous cellars of the area, surrounded by the beautiful hills of the Val di Chiana and Val d’Orcia.
