THE HISTORY
Back in the Sixties, a young Domenico Casola was cultivating the dream of giving life to a Hotel. In the same spot where, as a child, he stopped to play and live moments of lightheartedness in the beautiful scenario of Positano.

In the following years, after spending a long time in the US, Domenico comes back home with that thought well stuck in the back of his head: giving life to Eden Roc. The year to be marked in red is 1970. On August 1st, Eden Roc was born.

From that moment on, it will be the house of its numerous Guests who will choose it for its unmatched features. After being awarded the title of Knight of the Good, Domenico moves back permanently to Positano, where since almost 50 years he manages the Hotel with his sons: Raffaele and Lorenzo.

And exactly with them, in the last few years, the Casola group starts expanding its concept of hospitality, continuing to keep Eden Roc as its brightest star, but placing it side by side with many establishments in the breathtaking scenario of Positano.

THE LOCATION
A few steps from the main beach. The hotel Eden Roc is in a central and convenient position, a few steps from the stunning main beach of Positano, Spiaggia Grande and the heart of Positano.

In an ideal position for visiting on foot Positano’s characteristic narrow streets rich in boutiques and colour, it is also an optimum departing point to discover the pearls of the Amalfi Coast, such as Ravello and Amalfi situated 26km and 18km respectively.

A very traditional cottage full of sun and near the sea. There is enough space for four people. Great is the view you can enjoy from Casetta Arienzo. You can admire the sea of Positano and of the Amalfi Coast. Casetta Arienzo is 60 square meters that correspond to 645 square feet.

It also has a large terrace overlooking the sea. There is air conditioning during the summer time and heating in winter time. Is only 800 meters away from Positano, a very beautiful town. Positano has been called the pearl of the Amalfi Coast.

His landscapes are famous throughout the world. Its houses clinging to the hillside overlooking the sea lapping the shore almost able to strengthen the marriage of Positano with its sea, the landscape of Positano, its distinctive architecture, composed of narrow alleys, arcades, passageways, staircases, its boutiques where they offer the famous Positano fashion and its picturesque beaches make this town a tourist must.

Here you can find everything you need starting from restaurants, the shops, the beach and the tourist port. There is a bus stop and a beach within easy walking distance. The first beach you find is only 250 meters.

There is no need of a car during your stay since it is very well connected but if you prefer to bring it with you; you will find a free parking space nearby. In the terrace equipped with a sun umbrella and sun loungers you can relax and enjoy the beautiful sunny days.

POSITANO
Positano is a small pearl of the Amalfi Coast, set in the mountains that in the winter assume the appearance of a nativity scene, whilst in the summer becomes a triumph of vivid colours, thanks to the terraced houses, the flowers and the varied vegetation.

Dominated by the Lattari mountains that end as high cliffs overlooking the sea, it offers panorama of breathtaking beauty. Positano offers diverse attractions. The most important beach is Spiaggia Grande. Situated in the centre of the town and surrounded by diverse boutiques, it offers a panoramic view of the entire town.

Less crowded but no less fascinating, is Fornillo Beach that takes its name from an oven that was once found in that area. Also to visit, reaching them by sea are the beaches of Arienzo and Laurito, the latter surrounded by several restaurants and hotels.

In the main square of the town, near Spiaggia Grande (Positano’s main beach), is the famous Church of Santa Maria dell’Assunta. The building owes its origin to the presence of a Byzantine icon depicting the Black Madonna with child in her lap whilst its fame is mostly due to the dome covered with majolica tiles.

Not to be missed is also Chiesa del Rosario and what remains of an ancient monastery that surrounded the area of what is now Piazza dei Mulini.

Here you can admire some headstones and a roman sarcophagus with its representation of Bacco. Worthy of note is also the Medieval Crypt and the Roman Villa of the 1st century BC whose remains were only recently discovered.

The term “Moda Positano” (Positano Fashion) has become a true mark of quality. This fashion has a humble origin, sinking its roots in the post war period when due to economic restraints, craftsmen where forced to reuse scraps of material derived from the process of silk, jute, lace etc.

The ancient custom of manufacturing combined with the imagination of the people of Positano gave birth to clothes, bags, hats, belts, sarongs and swimming costumes. Although ancient in origin, “Moda Positano” tends to follow the trends of the most famous designers.

No less famous is the production of handmade sandals of great craftsmanship, creativity and inspiration. In just a few steps, these expert craftsmen are able to create on demand elegant and comfortable sandals made to measure.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis remains the most famous of all the greatest admirers however thousands of women worldwide remain fascinated by the sandals of Positano.

Positano offers various opportunities for adventure, hiking in unspoiled places, where the air is pure and the time seems to stand still. Via a long stairway from Positano, you reach Nocelle, where the Walk of the Gods begins, probably one of the most beautiful paths to experience.

Offering a panorama of the coast that is unique in the world and surrounded by lush and wild vegetation, you can also find the ruins of old houses and historic buildings. For the adventurous, the famous island of “Li Galli” may also be visited.

Celebrated by Homer as the dwelling of the Sirens who had bewitched Ulysses with their song, it is a decisively mystical and fascinating place.

Other than a constant sucession of cultural events such as “Mare, Sole e Culture” (Sea, Sun and Cultre), Positano boasts the honour of hosting the famous “Premio Danza” (Dance Award) dedicated to Leonide Massine.

Numerous illustrous names have come to Positano to be awarded, both the famous and not so famous and of course the soon to become famous.

Many have gained recognition as a result of this award. Among those who have come to receive this much saught after award are Béjart , Vassiliev, Maximova, Makarova, Babilée, Versace, Carla Fracci, Luciana Savignano, Elisabetta Terabust, Luigi Bonino, Roberto Bolle, Giuseppe Picone.

It is remembered in encyclopedias and dictionaries, mentioned by both theatre and tourist companies as the event of the year during the course its 40 years. The food festivals, such as fish festival or the Zeppola festival sees the town actively participating in the culinary experience.

Various restaurants offer visitors typical dishes of the coast: spaghetti alle vongole (spaghetti and clams), impepate di cozze (peppered mussels) and dishes with a base of fish that will enliven your palate, as well as cheese and mozzarella products from the nearby Lattari mountains and the not to be missed pizza.

THE AMALFI COAST
Remembered by all for having been one of the Marine Republics, Amalfi is one of the splendid towns of the Amalfi Coast with cliffs overhanging the sea.

Amalfi is distinguished by the presence of several inlets that create amazing spectacles of nature, such as the Emerald Grotto or the Fiord of Furore, which owes its name to the loud noise of the waves, that especially on windy days, run shivers down your spine.

One of the most important buildings in Amalfi is the Cathedral, dedicated to Saint Andrew, the apostle. Introduced by a long staircase that leads to bronze doors, it was constructed in the 10th century, combining the most varied architectural styles, Arabic, Norman and gothic.

The interior, decisively more baroque, leads to the Cloister of Paradise, where the architecture is exclusively Arab-Norman. Amalfi is one of the most vibrant towns. Along with the Patron festival of Saint Andrea that is celebrated on 27 June and 30 November, it offers a series of diverse festivals and celebrations.

The festival of the lemons, that of the sfogliatella and that of the pumpkin and zucchini are just some to name a few. Of the most important events surely remembered is the historic Four Maritime Republic Regatta that is hosted by Amalfi every four years.

Thirst for adventure? In the coast, you will be spoiled for choice! Positano and its surrounds offer nature trails and environment of incredible appeal. Being immersed in nature is a magical experience well worth living.

The enchanting Walk of the Gods we have already spoken of in the page dedicated to the city of Positano, is just one of the possible contacts with nature that this terrain offers.

Always departing from Positano, specifically from the village of Montepertuso which forms part of Positano, you can take a long walk that will lead you to the top of Monte Sant’Angelo.

From here you will have an exceptional view of the Gulf of Naples, all the while passing through steep cliffs and wild vegetation, until you arrive at a point where it is possible to see some of the most unique views in the world such as the archipelago of Li Galli or .

From Ravello, instead, it is possible to reach the centre of Minori. Passing through Valle di Sambuco, between the convent of Saint Nicholas and the Sanctuary of the Advocate, you will experience quiet and inner peace, in places where the silence is broken only by the wildlife.

Other possible paths also involve Amalfi. You can in fact, reach the ancient Marine Republic, passing through the natural reserve of Valle delle Ferriere, an area decisively rich in vegetation with chestnuts and lemon trees that trace the path to Amalfi.

These are just some of the paths that the lovers of adventure, trekking or long walks may encounter to experience fully the essence and the purity of the Amalfi Coast.

RAVELLO
Treat yourself to Ravello for moments of art and tranquility. Ravello is an important destination for those who wish to visit the Amalfi Coast in its entirety. Close to Positano and therefore easily reachable from the Eden Roc hotel, Ravello is situated 350 metres above sea level.

Characterised by very particular architecture, the town has as its major attraction the Cathedral, constructed in 1086. At one time dedicated to Mary of the Assumption and then later to Saint Pantaleone, it is dominated by a central door in Bronze.

Of great importance other than the Cathedral are the churches of San Giovanni Del Toro and that of Santa Maria a Gradillo.

During your visit to Ravello, the marvelous Villa Rufolo must not be missed. Dating from the thirteenth century and characterised by architecture of Arab-Sicilian and gardens of unique beauty, it is renowned also for being the fountain of inspiration for the composer Richard Wagner.

Less famous, but just as beautiful is Villa Cimbrone, which offers unparallel views and atmosphere. The coral museum, founded in 1986, has on display cameos, shells and carvings of absolute quality.

Apart from its religious festivals and celebrations, the town is today famous from a musical point of view, hosting the renowned “Ravello Festival”.

With its tranquility and its artistic and cultural importance, Ravello is absolutely an obligatory stop for those wishing to experience the Amalfi Coasts in its fullness.

SORRENTO
The itinerary towards the Sorrentine Peninsula, “neighbour” to the Amalfi Coast offers a large number of stunningly beautiful places.

Departing from Castellammare di Stabia with its famous spas and passing through Vico Equense, you arrive in Meta di Sorrento that with its large and stunning beaches, is a forerunner to the most important and renowned city: Sorrento.

Always an unchallenged fascinating tourist destination, Sorrento, distanced from Eden Roc by just 15km, is famous in the world for its natural beauty, with its coast overlooking the sea and its vegetation rich in vineyards, olive and citrus trees.

The excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum, distanced one hour from Eden Roc, are two of the most important archeological sites in the world.

The entire area that surrounds the sites is dominated by the National Park of Vesuvius. Small, but with numerous interesting places, the Park is ideal for those who love trekking and walks.

Offering diverse and interesting paths, it is surrounded by lush vegetation due to the ideal environment of a mild climate and fertile soil which is also ideal for the cultivation of the flowers, one of the main resources of the area.

Thanks to the fertile soil of the lava terrain, the Vesuvian agriculture offers unique tastes and aromas. During your tour, you may taste typical products like the wine Lachryima Christi, the famous cherry tomatoes and pine nuts, easily found in the fine trees surrounding Vesuvius.

It was the eruption of Vesuvius that in 79 AD, surprised and destructed entire cities to completely submerged both Herculaneum and Pompeii.

The city of Pompeii today, sees a large part of its territory occupied by the ruins of those years. By walking around the excavations, you journey back to relive those times due to the fact that the houses, utensils and shops have remained intact, clearly illustrating the structured life of the city where the Romans once lived.

Herculaneum, instead, was mostly submerged by lava and mud. This has better conserved the site in a totally diverse manner. The most beautiful structure is the House of the mosaic hall with its floor of black and white, living room, garden and rooms with diverse paintings.

Thanks to improved conservation, Herculaneum presents a large number of houses and buildings that have stood against time. The House of Argo, House of Neptune and Amphitrite, the House of the Skeleton are just some of the testimonies to the ancient city, in addition to the spas and the gym.
