ACTIVITIES & EXPERIENCES
From the popular Getreidegasse and the sea of church domes and towers to the bizarre rock formations and the picturesque villages around the city of Mozart.

The charm of an incomparably beautiful landscape with numerous lakes, the magic of the castles with historical architecture, and the setting of major cultural events – Salzburg is one-of-a-kind. It was no mistake when Carl Zuckmayer called Salzburg a “piece of paradise”

THE CITY CENTRE OF SALZBURG
Take advantage of the central location of the Hotel Amadeus to discover the historic city centre of Salzburg. We will take you on a short tour to the most important landmarks, sights and gastronomic highlights and cultural treasures.

LINZER GASSE
You don’t have to go far for this tip. The Linzer Gasse, which has become one of Austria’s most popular shopping streets over the past few years, is literally on your doorstep. Here you will find everything your heart desires.

The unmistakable Salzburg flair. Small shops, hidden courtyards with gastronomic highlights and cozy outdoor dining areas. Salzburg’s coffee house culture and rustic beer pubs, a wide variety of shops, ice-cream parlours and delicious trendy food, secluded squares with urban flair and quiet walks in the countryside up on the beautiful mountain Kapuzinerberg.

MIRABELL PALACE & GARDENS
Those who think of Salzburg often have the Mirabell Gardens in mind, with their symmetrical design. The odd figures scattered throughout the garden are particularly charming.

With its originally 28 dwarfs made of Untersberg marble, this special park might make you giggle, because no dwarf looks like the other. The Mirabell Garden is naturally guarded by the majestic Mirabell Palace, which is together with the gardens a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

MOZART’S RESIDENCE
Even before Mozart’s rise to world fame, his later residence was a social meeting place. And in this tradition, cultural events still take place in the former dance hall. Of course, there is an area dedicated solely to the Salzburg’s child prodigy: the Mozart Museum on the first floor.

STEINTERRASSE
Sight? Viewpoint? Cult in any case! The Steinterrasse is an institution in Salzburg’s city centre. The restaurant with bar and large sun terrace is always worth a visit. Enjoy the view of Salzburg’s mountains, the Untersberg and above all the historic old town lying at your feet.

MOZART’S BIRTHPLACE
Mozart’s birthplace is one of the most popular and well-visited sights in Salzburg. Since 1880, the former “Hagenauer Haus” has served as a museum and offers visitors fascinating insights into the early life of the unique musical genius.

Visitors are guieded trough the original Mozart rooms, which contain historical instruments, documents, memorabilia and portraits. Every year, there are also organized special exhibitions that offer a different perspective on Mozart and his life.

GETREIDEGASSE
For our next sightseeing tip, we have to cross the Salzach. Exclusive shops, charming cafés and big names are omnipresent on Getreidegasse. There is no better place to stroll through city of Mozart.

KOLLEGIEN CHURCH
Next the Salzburg Cathedral there is one of the most important sacral buildings in Salzburg, the Kollegien-Church, built in 1707. The church designed by architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach is called “University Church” by the locals.

SALZBURG RESIDENCE
Today the former residence for prince-archbishops in Salzburg accommodates the Residenz Gallery, amongst others. Here you can find paintings, sculptures and other works of art. The rooms themselves can also be rented for numerous events.

SALZBURG CATHEDRAL
The cathedral in the middle of Salzburg’s old town is the church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Salzburg. The tower is 81 meters high and there is room for around 10,000 people inside. The gigantic organ system is also impressive: in addition to the main organ, there are five other organs in the crossings under the cathedral’s dome.

MOZARTPLATZ
How could it be different for Salzburg: In our list there is a third place of interest dedicated to the person of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Located in the centre of Salzburg, Mozartplatz has a special significance thanks to the impressive Mozart Monument, created by Ludwig von Schwanthaler, which was erected here in 1842.

THE MARKETS OF THE OLD TOWN
Whether it`s fresh local fruit and vegetables from home or exotic delicacies from afar – the Salzburg markets offer something for everyone. We particularly recommend the Grünmarkt, the weekly Schrannenmarkt or the market at Universitätsplatz in Salzburg’s old town.
