The Megaro Hotel is the flagship 5 star property, part of the independently owned St. Pancras Hotel Group. Re-writing the established rules of hospitality, whilst retaining the norms of care, service and refinement, The Megaro is a place of constant (r)evolution, high in colours and bold in flavours, moving to the city’s constant rhythms and beats.

A landmark building in London’s Kings Cross, we weren’t always this colourful, but in 2012 we changed our skin and the building mural was designed and painted by four members of street art collective, Agents of Change.

The idea is basically to bring a bit of fun and colour to a drab stretch of road, now when you come out of St Pancras, you’ll think: wow, what’s that?” – Antonio Megaro (Owner)

POP DIVA SUITE
Dubbed ‘Pop Diva Studios’, each room has the compact and versatile layout of a backstage, movie artist studio with dedicated bar lounge, dressing and sleeping areas, with views over the rooftops of St Pancras.

The new look has been conceived by the British artist Henry Chebaane using a rich, glamorous palette of vibrant reds and seductive gold inspired by the Cannes Festival, Hollywood Oscars and Bafta awards.

‘Floraison’ is a sculptural wall light installation evoking the three grapes used in a Champagne blend (Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier) casting theatrical lights and shadows onto the fine mousse texture of the pearlescent walls.

The white chalk soils and oak forests of the Reims region have inspired the materials for floors and walls, blended with the constituents of a bottle of Champagne: warm natural cork, cool translucent glass, gold metallic foil, shimmering brass and rich tailoring fabrics of warm Harris Tweed and soft red velvet.

The generously sized bathrooms provide a pampering cocoon within the diffuse glow of its Hollywood mirror, red ceilings, golden walls and chalky floor. Indeed, the bathtub can be filled with Champagne, for a price and by prior consultation to ensure stock availability.

Individual rooms or the entire floor are available for overnight stay as well as day-hire for press junkets, fashion shoots and interviews or simply have a good time in London.

BRITANNIA ROSE
The design blends modern design and pop art with the world of wine for which Britain has been a key trading hub for centuries. Each room has a warm, dramatic design scheme in five shades of red and pink inspired by classic red grape varieties: Cabernet, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sangiovese and Tempranillo.

The common thread of the interior design is the Magenta colour taken from the pigments of newly-made wine and the roses often planted in vineyards. It also refers to a deeper narrative about the steam-age past of Kings Cross, its coal and gas industry and the derivative chemical products made from it.

The wallpaper ‘in vino veritas’ has been specially designed by British artist Henry Chebaane as backdrop to his interior design concept: a contrasting juxtaposition of interrelated themes about the cycles of wine production and consumption overlaid with a Victorian steampunk feel.

The graphics include a flock of butterflies made of wine stains, which have also been reproduced as dozens of actual objects in printed aluminium populating the ceilings around an iconic light pendant by Foscarini.

GROOVE BRITANNIA
The design takes a retro-futuristic trip to the Pop culture of London circa 1968-78 blending visual cues taken from BBC early science fiction and the French Barbarella “Queen of the Galaxy”.

A film particularly popular in London, where it was the year’s second-highest-grossing film on its release. Each room provides a theatrical space-age mood reminiscent of a Dr Who film set. The walls and ceilings are covered with highly specular textured surfaces in shades of silver, reflecting the ambient lights in playful angles.

The woodwork on all doors, skirting boards and bed base are stained in royal blue, evoking the frame of a deconstructed Tardis. The floor carpet in shades of cosmic grey is a 3D representation of the acoustic waves from a Disco club sound system, inviting guests to try a few dance moves in the privacy of their bedroom.

Individually designed beds, mobile wardrobes and occasional furniture are made with flight-case materials with a silver rippling surface inspired by the first Apollo space programme, British Glam Rock and disco balls.

The room interior design includes iconic pop design pieces such as Scandinavian ball armchairs, British Mathmos lava lamps and UFO-shaped light pendants from Danish designer Verner Panton.

As for all his previous projects, The British artist Henry Chebaane has also produced various pieces of site-specific pop art pieces including a graphic mash-up of Barbarella fighting Daleks with a hair dryer and a photographic print of London sky with lyrics from Duran Duran’s “This is planet Earth”.

MAGENTA RESTAURANT
Designed by renowned the British artist and designer, Henry Chebaane, created to postulate the intriguing premise: what if… in 1880, British engineers and scientists from the St Pancras Coal, Steel and Gas industries decided to create their own public house, with rooms above?

Inspired by the large community of Italian immigrants based around Kings Cross, they would build a restaurant, bar and rooms celebrating ‘La Dolce Vita’ with an authentic, local British identity.

A place for libations and A name that evokes northern Italy and its flavours, but also the chemistry of nature and the organic pigments that sustain plant life. These include the anthocyanins that colour our food and wines in vivid shades of red, pink and purple. MAGENTA is the colour of imagination.

Our dishes are curated by Executive Head Chef Manuele Bazzoni, who carefully crafted his 15 year culinary career at Le Boudin Blanc as Head Chef and Trinity to name a few.

Each dish is perfectly balanced to delight the senses, to take you on a journey of Italy whilst paired with our extensive wine list, selected by our in-house Sommelier Alessandro Facciolo.celebrations of everyday life until it closes, swept away by the turmoil of time.

What if… 141 years later, the premises are renovated and updated with a modernist sensibility, transformed into a giant art installation? A bar and restaurant within an indoor pergola of Victorian industrial architecture, dressed in a palette of coal, steel and oak, upholstered with magenta wool and anthracite leather.

An evocative space where thousands of butterflies flutter overhead, in shimmering hues of pink and silver, to a cinematic soundtrack.

HOKUS POKUS COCKTAIL BAR
Hokus Pokus is inspired by Victorian quack doctor James Morison who in 1828 opened the “British College of Health” just a few doors from here. Doc Morison was quite an adventurer: born in 1770 Scotland, he studied in Aberdeen and Germany, established himself as a merchant on the Baltic in Riga, invested in the West Indies before moving to ordeaux in 1815.

A few years later, he came to London claiming to have found a universal vegetable cure for all ailments based on botanical compounds he prepared in pill forms and swallowed with lemonade.

Today at Hokus Pokus we prefer our botanicals to be distilled, served with a large lump of ice or sipped at room temperature. While we make no claims of health benefits, we are confident that our tinctures and mixtures might do wonders to your mood, whatever the weather.

An underground alchemy lab anchored by its Kings Cross heritage and location with an audacious blend of 19th century apothecary and retro-futuristic steampunk engine room, inspired by Victorian science, quack medicine, alchemy books and esoteric literature with infused floor to ceiling with warm copper, aged brass, mercury glass, white marble and vintage oak, punctuated by vibrant flashes of petrol blue and deep purple.

THE WINES
With over 70 wines available from Italy and France, the Magenta is home to the best craftsmen and women of the vine and wine industry, from all the wine-growing regions of Italy of course, but also from the surrounding countries.

The cellar was the former bank vault, to which The Megaro used to house as a former bank, created by Sommelier Adriana Valentini collaboration with the owner of the premises, with the emphasis on Italy and its emblematic grape varieties.

Some bottles are offered to you in their youth, others have been aged in the cellars of the respective winemakers until they reach maturity. Particular attention has been given to this selection in order to offer you products designed according to a sustainable production ethic.
