MOZART PARK
In 1913 a public city park, later called Mozart Park, was built on the site of the former cemetery. In the area of the park, some Empire and Biedermeier stone tombstones from the 18th and 19th centuries of several prominent personalities associated with Karlovy Vary, such as Franz Xaver Wolfgang Mozart, the son of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and the spa doctor David Becher, have been preserved.

GAZEBO OF ALOIS KLEIN
The octagonal wooden gazebo in Swiss style was built in 1997 according to the design of ing. arch. František Vondráček in the park in front of the Richmond Hotel. The gazebo bears the name of the original owner of the sanatorium Alois Klein. The 14th Karlovy Vary mineral spring Štěpánka springs directly in the gazebo.

The original reservoir, dating from 1884, has been extinguished over time. In 1993, the spring was captured by a new probe near the Parkhotel Richmond. The spring is not taken as part of a drinking cure.

ORCHARD COLONNADE
The decorated prefabricated cast iron colonnade is the last remnant of the concert and restaurant hall called Blanenský pavilion, built in 1880 – 1881 according to the project of the famous Viennese architects Fellner and Helmer. Since 2001, the Snake Spring has been springing up here and from the area of the colonnade, the spring of the Orchard Spring in the basement of the Military Spa Institute is also accessible.

In the middle of the 19th century, it gushed out during the excavation of the foundations for the Military Spa Institute. It was originally called the Imperial Spring, later renamed the Sad Spring due to its proximity to the Sad Colonnade. It flows right next to the colonnade and has a temperature of 42 °C.

It springs in the Sadová kolonáda, where it was brought as part of the reconstruction of the colonnade in 2001, so it is the newest spring in Karlovy Vary. It was named Snake Spring in memory of the snakes that once lived in large numbers behind the colonnades.

CASTLE COLONNADE
The castle colonnade was opened in 1913. It is divided into two parts. The Upper Spring Colonnade is freely accessible to the public and shelters the Castle Upper Spring. The Lower Spring Colonnade is only open to clients of the Chateau Spa, but the Lower Chateau Spring is also brought to the Market Colonnade for the public.

The Viennese architect Ohmann used an interesting idea of the city’s Spring Office to bring a small part of the water of the Lower Castle Spring to a sump on a level a few metres higher into the pavilion. Due to the higher altitude, it has a different temperature and CO2 content. The Lower Castle Spring has a temperature of 55 °C, the Upper Castle Spring 5 °C lower.

The Jan Becher Museum is located on the site of the former factory in Steinberky, where Becherovka originated for more than a hundred years. The original factory was built in 1867 by founder Jan Becher.

During the tour, you will visit some of the original production and cellar areas, watch a unique film made for Becherovka by the Caban brothers and taste several specialties from the museum bar. Finally, you can visit the museum shop and buy Becherovka or another bottle from the company’s wide range.

THE JAPANESE GARDEN
The Japanese Zen Meditation Garden was built in 1998 according to the design of Japanese garden architect Dr. Kanji Nomura. The garden was created in honour of Dr Erwin von Bälz, who helped lay the foundations of modern medicine in Japan.

The garden’s circular layout symbolizes the principles of yin and yang. The white gravel depicts the sea between the eastern and western hemispheres, with the stone of Goodness in the middle connecting East and West.

MARKET COLONNADE
The white wooden colonnade designed by architects Fellner and Helmer was originally a temporary structure. However, it has lasted for over 130 years and time has not detracted from the beauty of the richly carved Swiss-style building with its columned arcade and gabled roof. An interesting feature is the relief of Charles IV depicting the legend of the founding of the city.

The healing powers of this spring may have contributed to Emperor Charles IV’s decision to build a spa here. The discovery of Karlovy Vary is evidenced by the relief above the spring. The spring has been lost and rediscovered several times since its discovery (1838). Several boreholes have been drilled, thanks to which it can still be prescribed by spa doctors today.

It springs inside the former Castle Colonnade (today’s Castle Spa), built according to the plans of the Viennese architect Ohmann. Behind the spring vase is a sandstone relief depicting the “Spirit of the Springs”.

CASTLE TOWER
The castle tower below our hotel is a remnant of a Gothic castle built by Emperor Charles IV around 1358. In 1766, after another fire, the tower was supplemented with an arcaded gallery from which important guests of the spa town were welcomed with fanfare. SMETANA’S ORCHARDS
The park named after the composer is dominated by the pseudo-Baroque building of Elizabeth’s Baths, in front of which there is a fountain with a nude of a girl. A four-row avenue of shaped lime trees forming green walls faces the front of the bathhouse.

At the beginning of the park there is a flower bed in the centre of which the current date is created every morning. The paths in the park are lined with rows of benches, inviting you to relax.
