PRAIANO

THE HISTORICAL PLAGIANUM
Praiano, originally known as Plagium or Pelagianum, was once the holiday resort of the Amalfitan Doges. Today it may lack the splendour of Medieval nobility, but it has maintained its timeless charm as a small fishing village perched on the cliffs between its more famous neighbours, Positano and Amalfi.

For its defense a tower was built by Charles I of Anjou. Praiano’s local economy was built upon two products, the first being the production of silk, and its use by the local women in the manufacture of handmade articles for clothing etc.

In past centuries silk and thin, fine yarn was turned white and worked by the women of the town, and the popularity of this fabric helped the town flourish. The coral fishing industry was no less lucrative, and the men collected coral from the sea and fashioned it into beautiful jewelry, among other things.

Both historically and architecturally, the most important building today in Praiano is the Church of Saint Luke the Evangelist, which also holds this saint’s remains. The Church boasts fine paintings by Giovanni Bernardo Lama (including the Madonna with Child) and a silver bust of the saint, dated 1694.

Today Praiano is a prestigious sunning, swimming and boating destination, offering tourists from all over the world a tranquil location from which to sample the joys of the coastline, with convenient proximity to the tourist towns of Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello.

AMALFI COAST

The hotel offers a dock service for day trip to and from Capri and is connected all’autolinea “SITA” for getting to and from the centers of Amalfi, Positano, Ravello, Sorrento and many other places of the Sorrento-Amalfi Coast.

For excursions to Pompeii, Herculaneum and Naples, there is public transportation called the “SITA” bus to Sorrento. From there, a local train called the “Circumvesuviana” can take you onto your destination. At any time, if you prefer, we can organize a private car to take you anywhere you.

TOURS
For the guests want to to spend an interesting day, there are excursions that start from Praiano to Capri, Emerald Grotto, Faraglioni, Ischia, Sorrento/Herculaneum, Naples, Pompeii/Vesuvius and Paestum.

Private boat trips, both day and night, leave from the beach “La Praia”. There is also the opportunity to take advantage of a shuttle service to the beautiful beaches and coves bathed in sunshine throughout the coast and rent paddle boats, motor boats, canoes, pedal boats, fishing boats, dinghies and speedboats.

SORRENTO/HERCULANEUM
Departure from the Hotel by GT Bus to Herculaneum, a residential town buried in ashes by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 a.D. Guided visit to the archaeological excavations. Herculaneum was destroyed along with Pompeii in 79 AD, and was rediscovered in 1709.

Il was e residential town without Pompeii’s commercial importance, surrounded by the villas of wealthy Romans. Departure to Sorrento, on arrival free time for optional lunch.

Visit of the city centre: In the lanes of the old city centre, still untouched in spite of the progress and mass tourism, have survived churches and ancient monasteries, keepers of valuable memories.

Return to Amalfi Coast driving along the famous Amalfi Drive road, through the picturesque villages of Conca dei Marini, Furore and Praiano.

CAPRI
Among all of the excursions that you could choose to enjoy while visiting the Amalfi Coast, Capri is the most beautiful, a dream which will repeat itself in your reality.

After a tranquil breakfast enjoying the early morning sun from our terrace, you will board the ferry at the pier below the hotel. This cruise operates every day with departure at 9.00 a.m.

Soft drinks will be served on board. Once we reach the Faraglioni rocks, probably the most scenic place in Capri, the cruise will stop for a relaxing swim in the beautiful waters of the nearby Green Cave and White Cave.

We will also stop for a visit in the famous Blue Grotto. Arrival and disembarkation at the port of Marina Grande approx. 12.00 o’clock and free time for visiting the island until 4 o’clock.

POMPEI/VESUVIO
Departure from the hotel by de-luxe motorcoach to Pompeii, the roman city buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 a.D.

Visit to the archaeological site: With its excavated area, extending for approximately 44 ha, and the preservation state of its buildings, due to the particular burial (under a blanket of 6 meter of ash and rock) caused by the eruption of the Vesuvius in 79 AD, Pompeii can be considered the only archaeolgical site which gives the real image of roman city.

Free time for lunch. Departure by bus to Mount Vesuvius up to 1000 meters, then, escorted by a specialized guide, walk to the summit. Mt. Vesuvius is the best known volcano on earth; it dominates the Bay of Naples with its characteristic cone.

TREKKING ON THE AMALFI COAST
For nature lovers and hikers you must not miss the pristine paths of the Amalfi Coast. The Lattari Mountains, up to Campanella Point, constitute a territory that is one of the most suggestive and celebrated of the world. It is an impressive show and imposing view of precipitous cliffs above the “pending waves”.

The area of the Lattari mountains provides a hike that can offer a unique vacation experience: the itinerary unwinds in the silence of the mountainous calm, with scenery of haunting panoramas, far from the coastal congestion and the ribbon of asphalt highways.

The trails run across places of incomparable beauty, rich with history and culture, and are not particularly difficult: Hikes can accommodate all levels, even those with a minimum of experience.

RAVELLO MUSIC FESTIVAL
Since 1953 in the gardens Villa Rufolo in Ravello, where Wagner found his “magic garden of Klingsor”, takes place a prestigious Musical Festival. The current Ravello Festival derives from a series of previous initiatives which make it the oldest of the Italian festivals after the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.

Girolamo Bottiglieri and Paolo Caruso are to be attributed with the idea of the cultural event which, more than any other thing, has contributed towards building the identity of Ravello as a “Città della musica” – City of Music.

To further widen the offer, an even longer list of concerts is offered by the Ravello Concert Society usually from April until the end of October, in several location of the music-voted town, like the Annunziata Historical Building and the futuristic Oscar Niemeyer auditorium.

AFRICANA FAMOUS CLUB
For those who want to spend a completely different and enjoyable evening, there is the Night Club “The Africana” the most famous nightclub on the Amalfi Coast.

Two big caves overlap just above the sea, the big dance floor is covered with plates of glass where the underlying sea is seen along with the stalactites and the stalagmites that are illuminated with iridescent reflections.

Local fishers come in during the most frenzied peak of the dancing, and dredge a sinkhole in the edge of the dance floor with nets, pulling up bountiful catch of seafood for consumption in local restaurant.

The contrast of new-age music which often arrives here by boat. The Africana, offers live music with orchestras and international shows.
