It’s all here in the centro storico of Rome, a few steps from Piazza Navona amidst some of the world’s most admired monuments: the Pantheon, St. Peter’s and the Vatican, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps and the Colosseum. Art and artistry continues inside with a unique collection of Picasso ceramics and paintings by Mirò, Morandi, and De Chirico.

Two whole floors of the hotel have been conceived and designed by Richard Meier, with rooms and suites that carry his unmistakable signature in every detail: oak panelling and leather surface alternate with statuary grade Carrara marble, splendid yellow Siena, black Portoro and Navona travertine. All these elements as a whole create a masterpiece of contemporary architecture.

ROOMS & SUITES
Our traditional rooms have been recently renovated and elegantly furnished, capable of evoking a comfortable antique flavor. All rooms are equipped with private bathroom with tub, hardwood floors. Some of them also provide a small living room and\or private terrace.

All rooms are equipped with minibar, hairdryer, TV with a wide selection of international channels and Cisco Meraki complimentary WiFi connection. The rooms and suites of the Executive Floors are exquisitely finished with fine oak and luxuriously furnished in classic modern style.

The bathrooms are completely covered with “top quality Carrara marble”, some of them with 2 sinks, bathtube and a separate shower. Beds have been specifically designed for a customized level of comfort, and all rooms are equipped with the most innovative technologies:

THE RESTAURANT
Our restaurant Mater Terrae and two of our Hotel’s floors were conceived and designed by American architect Richard Meier, with rooms and suites bearing his unique signature in each detail.

Oak paneling and leather surface alternate with statuary grade Carrara marble, splendid yellow Siena, black Portoro and Navona travertine. All these elements as a whole create a masterpiece of contemporary architecture.

The uniqueness of Raphaël Hotel’s Executive floors, designed by Richard Meier, reflects the philosophy of the architect who believes that white is the most beautiful and interesting color.  For Richard Meier “within white you can see all the colors of the rainbow”; this color is almost always transformed and redesigned by the light.

A masterpiece of ecological and solar architecture, our Vegetarian, Organic, Biodynamic and Vegan restaurant Mater Terrae encourages people to relax and abandon themselves to the widespread wellbeing which permeates every dish. Our healthy recipes are good both for you and the environment.

You saw the word “vegetarian” and you are not convinced… Don’t worry about it, we will not fill your plate with tofu or seaweed! We will instead delight your palate with natural seasonal products and unique recipes based on art, creativity and innovation!

LA MANUELINA
We are pleased to inform our valued guests that since January 2018 we have been collaborating with the historic restaurant “La Manuelina” of the Carbone family, famous for its excellent Focaccia with Recco cheese.

The Focaccia with Recco Cheese was invented by the great-grandmother Manuelina in her simple Inn in Recco, located betweenGenova and Portofino in the magnificent Gulf of Tigullio, at the end of the nineteenth century, exactly in the 1885.

It’s a magical Recipe as from simple ingredients like flour, water, oil and cheese measured out wisely, worked with ability and cooked at high temperature, one can obtain a real prodigy of lightness and fragrance.

Mater Terrae encourages people to relax and abandon themselves to the widespread wellbeing which permeates every dish. Our healthy recipes are good both for you and the environment. In the end ”a winner is a dreamer who never gives up” (Nelson Mandela) So let’s dream together and help us “win” a better world!

THE GREEN HEART
Bio Hotel Raphaël has a green heart. It is particularly clear if you look at the way our Managing Director Roberto Vannoni pay close attention to the health and wellness of his guests. In particular, at breakfast we prefer cereals, fruits, bread and bakery products.

Moreover, our restaurant is green from its “foundations”, in fact, it was conceived and designed in order to save energy and to avoid harmful emissions from building materials.

MEDITERRANEAN & BIOLOGICAL BREAKFAST
We are right in the center of one of the most important world culinary cultures: the Mediterranean. Countries with a moderate climate, full of plants that grow wherever, of cereals that have been diversified within the centuries, fruits that have the same name but are very different among them.

Do you know how many subspecies of apricots grow on the Vesuvius, only 150 kilometers at the south of Rome? More than 100.

Because of this reason, our breakfast has all the colors and the tastes of our fruit, of our cereals grown on the hills, lowlands and mountains, of the different types of sweets and breads of Italy: a country that represents 0,2 percent of the emerged lands, but which has a history and also a gastronomy, different for almost each one of its around eight thousand City Halls.

And it is also for this reason that we suggest you to choose Mediterranean for your breakfast: vegetable proteins, tasty fruits and vegetables produced in our country.

But we also propose you this in the name of a vision, of a sweeter relationship with the Planet. More meat means a great consumption of ground, a great impact on the climate, controlled animal breedings as industries and pollution.

Your personal choice also implies a small gesture that can reward the palate and relieve our pressure on our planet: try, if you like, the perfumes and the tastes of the Mediterranean.The chef recommends it.

VEGETARIAN IS GOOD
This is something for sure not discovered by us. The Italian and Mediterranean cuisine is a triumph of vegetables, legumes, cereals, often of eggs and cheese, to add a magic touch.

Pasta, soups, pizzas: it has taken hundreds, rather thousands, of years of experimentation by generations of women. farmers and artists, nobles and housekeepers, adventuresses and mothers, to give us the recipes that today have become base of the cuisine for great cooks.

We have revised and adapted all these recipes for you. We present them in our restaurant Mater Terrae, a meeting place in the city for the one who chooses and appreciates vegetarian kitchen and who wants to eat biological food, cultivated without pesticides respecting the environment and human health.

The last researches which have been developed in the food field, for instance, at the Mayo Clinic in Colorado, show that who eats meat-free can live an average of 4 years more than the people who include meat in their diet.

And, aditionally, that the quality of life in these cases is clearly higher: more fitness, less illnesses. And then, the vegetarian choice or, at least, focused on a very moderate consumption of meat, avoids the release of enormous quantities of gas to the atmosphere that damage the climate of our planet.

Last, but not least, the value of an ethic choice. The industrial breedings are not projected for allowing a decent life for the confined animals. However, no matters if you decide wether eating meat or not, nowadays the conditions of its production are unacceptable for all of us.

MADE WITH THE SUN
Immersed in the ancient city, our restaurant Mater Terrae is an example of ecological and solar architecture. In prder to build it we have used wood systems, hemp bricks, straw panels and pressed clay. No metals or plastics, no toxic varnish.

The electric fittings have been screened. The restaurant is conceived for giving a total sense of comfort, in absolute harmony with our philosophy of a deep green welcome. You could conceive it as a great, pleasant and elegant organism built from the Earth and the Sun.

It has really been the Sun light that has made growing the hemp and the straw; that has launched into the sky the trees of which the wood structures that sustain it have been made. A restaurant which has been certified by international organisms of ecological control as House Climate. Did you expect it like that, on the rooftops of the Baroque Rome?
