THE HISTORY
Hotel San Francesco Al Monte has an ancient history whose roots extend into the heart of the mountain.The Hotel San Francesco al Monte is the result of a project to rehabilitate and convert the left wing of the ancient monastery of Santa Lucia al Monte directed by the architect Luciano Raffin.

The monastery’s dates from the 16th and began with the first single cell that Friar Augustine Miglionico of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual, also known as the “Barbanti” for their flowing beards, carved in the side of the hill of San Martino, in an isolated area known as the mountain.

Over time, the first cell became the Church of Saint Lucia Vergine e Martire, and a more extensive and organised religious complex grew alonside it on the side of the hill.

The project to adapt the ancient monastery, skillfully preserved fascinating and artistically important areas such as the Chapel of San Giovan Giuseppe della Croce, patron saint of Ischia, the Hall of the Oven and the frescoed Refectory.

You can see fragments of frescoes, ancient majolica and decorations in every corner of the hotel. The third floor also houses the cell where Giovan Giuseppe della Croce spent the last 12 years of his life.

Remembered for the miracle of the apricots that grew around him even during the winter, he was beatified in 1789. That same year, his cell was turned into a votive chapel and, today, it is one of the most enchanting areas of the entire hotel.

We have transformed the monks’ cells into 45 elegant rooms decorated in soft colours, and created a floral roof garden and pool with stunning sea views from Vesuvius over to Capri.

THE TERRACE BAR
Piano player, comfortable sofas and a breathtaking view are the main reason that made the Bar a meeting point for the national and international elite that likes to sit to enjoy expertly mixed cocktails, selected wines from our cellar. From April to October, 11.00 – 24.00

THE WINE CELLAR
On the ground floor, behind the ancient cloister it was recently restored the cell that originally, having regard to its distinction of being dug out of tufa, with temperatures that allowed storing food, was used as a storeroom by the friars.

Today a single table, made from one of the original doors and a live cooking station will be available for tastings and private dinners for the exclusive use of a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 people. Open all year by appointment

ANCIENT CLOISTER BAR
Sober and elegant furniture and soft lighting enrich and integrate perfectly with the original terracotta floors and large arches with a height of about ten meters. For hot drinks, tea and coffee winter accompanied by the reading of a book. From November to March, 11.00 – 24.00

POOL BAR & RESTAURANT
The seventh floor houses our lush garden, one of the few places in Naples, where the view stretches from Capodimonte in Capri through the important domes churches of the old town, the Angevin.

During the summer months you can have a drink by the pool or dine along the pergola under the shade of a rich vineyard.

THE WELLNESS
To ensure the safety and sanitation of the rooms, entry to our “Antica Essenza” Wellness Area is always for the exclusive use of those who book. Appointments are always taken one hour after the end of the previous one so as to sanitize the spaces and offer moments of relaxation in complete safety.

A team of experienced professionals, led by Professor Stefano Serra and the Director Rosa Frezza is available for numerous treatments. It is necessary to book through our webapp or our reservations office at least one day before the chosen day.

We only host one event per day. Choose between magnificent covered terraces, garden with pool and the enchanting view of the thousands of lights of the bay or the charm of an ancient monastery with its refectory.

Combine ceremony and reception in comfort at the church of Saint Lucia al Monte, an integral part of the former convent.

MEETINGS IN NAPLES
The Meeting Rooms, preserve intact the charm of the ancient spaces they were created from. The Hotel San Francesco al Monte offers 3 fully-equipped conference rooms with telephone, Internet access, audio-visual system, projectors, screens and flipcharts

The rooms can accommodate a maximum of 200 people and they have been designed down to the smallest detail to meet the needs of each meeting or conference.

Regardless of the room selected, every event can be accompanied by the fascinating panoramic view instead of the ancient frescoes and, in any case, always by the fascinating 16th-century architecture.

PRIVATE EVENTS
Our panoramic garden, our hystorical ball rooms like the ancient Refettorio and the old owen room are a perfect settings for concert, fashion show or just for celebrate a special anniversary.

POOL & GARDEN
On the seventh floor, where the hotel touches the green hill of San Martino, there are a swimming pool and garden. Scrupulous checks (including PH and Chlorine) are recorded every day every 2 hours to ensure hygiene, especially in compliance with the anti-covid regulations in force.

If these checks do not meet the required parameters, we make use of the right to suspend access to the water at any time, but not the use of the roof garden and its appliances.

The top floor of the hotel touches the hill of San Martino, an authentic patch of countryside in the middle of the city. Here, a roof garden has been created that has no equal: there is 360-degree view of the city, the gulf, Vesuvius and Capri, on the one hand, and, on the other, the hill with the Vineyard of San Martino and, above, the Carthusian monastery of the same name and the tufa Castle of Sant’Elmo.

The terrace has a roof garden of rare beauty: the ancient vegetable gardens cultivated by the monks were preserved with their walkways and pergolas. The pool, open from 15th May to 30th September, from 9 AM to 5:30 PM, has a

sinuous shape, excavated from the tufaceous rock in the most scenic position and is almost camouflaged by the greenery and stone. Equipped with lounge chairs and open-air sitting areas. In a hidden cave, a second pool carved from the tufa, with hot water, beneficial jets is available to guests.

The visual experience on the top floor of the hotel does not end with the panoramic view of Naples. The structure itself offers glimpses and hidden details to find and enjoy.

Strolling among the vines and citrus plants or through the light play offered by the pergola, you will discover details that are seamlessly integrated with the structure of the monastery, such as the ground-level swimming pool and the hot-water pool cut into the rock.
