HIKING

Hiking is such a reward with the gorgeous view on your way up, not to forget the life changing scenery when reaching the top.
Norway have the most scenic and untouched nature for you to explore. And in the Fjords we have a long and proud history of great adventurers reaching summits never reached before. Now many of the most popular routes are marked by a red “T” safely guiding you to the top.

SUMMIT SLOGEN
Take the challenge and hike to the top of Slogen, 1564 meters above sea level. It is a strenuous all-day hike, but you will be well rewarded. From its summit, you can enjoy a stunning panorama over the entire region, with the snow-capped Sunnmøre Alps, the fjords and islands, and the sea beyond.
The Norwegian Fjords is a favorite among summit enthusiasts from all over the world – and the summit Slogen is one the most breathtaking and beautiful hikes in all of Norway.

GEIRANGERFJORD
We believe all travellers should have the opportunity to experience the Geiranger Fjord. It’s easy to see why UNESCO considers this 20 kilometre long fjord to be a treasure for all mankind, a World Heritage Site. See the famous waterfalls: the Seven Sisters, The Suitor, and the Bridal Veil.
Perched on mountain ledges high above the fjord, abandoned farms speak of another time. Mountains rise almost 1700 metres above the fjord, which is up to 260 metres deep.
People have lived along the fjords and between the fjords and the mountains for thousands of years. In a harsh natural environment and a demanding climate they found a way to make a living based on fishing and agriculture.
One of the clearest signs of old cultural history is the many abandoned farms along the Geirangerfjord. The National Tourist Route from Geiranger to Trollstigen, also known as “The Golden Route” is probably the toughest stretch of road in Norway.
National Tourist Routes is the name used for the 18 selected stretches of road in Norway that take you through the most outstanding parts of the Norwegian landscape. The Golden Route is the most spectacular and beautiful of all the tourist routes. A sight to remember.

Be sure to stop at Lyngstøylvatnet where you can still see remains of the summer farm’s foundations, fences and forests at the bottom of this lake.
Formed when an avalanche dammed up the river more than 100 years ago. Getting to Hotel Union Øye is a fantastic scenic journey in itself, driving along the valley to our hotel.

FJORD FISHING
How many opportunities does one have of harvesting short-traveled delicacies into one’s plate? With 62ºNORD you will – the fjord that bathes Ålesund is a millennial cod fishing grounds literally in sight of town.
Along the fjords and up the mountains, wherever one looks there will be an opportunity for high quality harvesting, and it can all end up, by your own hand or ours, onto your plate at our restaurant Apotekergata 5.
As Norway’s leading export port for fish and fishery products, Ålesund has a long and proud fishing history. With direct access to the open sea we are happy to show you our secret fishing spots. Don’t miss the famous Borgundfjord fishing that attracts enthusiasts from all over the world.
This traditional fishing has taken place for many generations and has had a great impact on the development of Ålesund as a city. Every spring for many hundreds of years Borgundfjord fishing has been a spectacular fishing that has taken place right under the quays, almost in the middle of Ålesund town center.
Fishing normally takes place from February through April. During this period the cod together with herring come in large quantities to the Moorish coast for spawning, and the boats lie close in tight to pull up the tasty cod in large quantities.
The coastal cod coming into the Borgund Fjord for spawning has been protected, and in recent years the fishermen have had to stay away. But recreational anglers can enjoy the unique fishing in the Borgund Fjord
ALPINE SKIING
Stranda Skiresort is Norway’s most beautiful ski resort attracting ski enthusiasts from all over the world. The panoramic view from Roalden Pavillion down over Stranda and Storfjorden is truly majestic and part of UNESCO’s World Heritage area.
The cable car goes up to the Roalden Pavilion, which lies 1042 metres above sea level. You can enjoy refreshments in the Pavilion’s restaurant while you enjoy the view.
Activities at Stranda
Strandafjellet is located in the Sunnmore alps. Here you’ll find something for every member of the family: 7 ski lifts, gondola, 18 pisted runs, children’s park/family area, terrain park, 2 restaurants, warming room, ski/board school, ski rental, ski service and guiding.
Our goal is to cover the needs of every winter enthusiast. Are your ready for an activity where you’re in charge of the pace, surrounded by stunning scenery? Try one of our trails for cross country.
We also have several ski lifts with varying level, where we offer free season tickets to all 4th graders and free ski lift for the youngest.
If it’s more tempting with a little more speed and exitement, the terrain park is the right place to go. In the terrain park you’ll find many small and large jumps, rails and other items. Strandafjellet is also an eldorado for freeriding, both elevator based and hike based.
We also have activities without skis. You can choose between everything from ice climbing, airboard, competitions to snowshoeing. We offer a variety of exciting experiences and acitivities in cooperation with Uteguiden.
One thing is certain: a fun and active day builds up an appetite! You can choose between Roald Pavilion Panorama Restaurant (1042 m), the pavilion at the top of Fursetheisa (708 m) and at the bottom of Furset side you’ll find the Stova café.
