Experience the soul of Moroccan hospitality at the legendary La Maison Arabe, a luxurious riad-hotel set in the heart of the ancient medina of Marrakech. An authentic haven of tranquillity that echoes the city’s rich history, heritage and culture; this oasis celebrates a rich storied past, as one of Marrakech’s finest dining experience since 1946.

Uncover the secrets of refined Moroccan cuisine under the guidance of a traditional Dada at the cooking school or bask in an exotic yet serene atmosphere, immersed amid the secret garden sanctuary of the hotel’s Country Club a few minutes away in the Palmeraie.

Located a short walk from Jemaa el Fna Square, a UNESCO heritage site, this intimate 37-room retreat is a legend in itself – founded by French mother and daughter pair Suzy and Helene Sebillon-Larochette in the 1940s as the first restaurant in the medina open to foreigners, and lovingly restored in the 1990s by Italian aristocrat, Count Fabrizio Ruspoli, to become the first boutique riad-hotel in Marrakech.

Here, you can walk in the footsteps of many famous visitors from celebrities to dignitaries who came to dine, including Ernest Hemingway, Jackie Kennedy, Rita Hayworth, Queen Ingrid of Denmark and Sir Winston Churchill, and rest amidst the aristocratic splendour of a traditional riad, graced with all the amenities and services of a luxury hotel.

Immerse in the charm of a bygone era and sumptuous comfort styled with an elegant blend of Moroccan and European design. Indulge in La Maison Arabe’s long tradition of refined Moroccan gastronomy, alongside international delights.

Take part in the intricacies of Moroccan cuisine at the hotel’s world-renowned cooking school, where veteran local chefs divulge their age-old culinary secrets.

After a busy day exploring the historic sights and bustling souks, La Maison Arabe is the perfect realm to unwind – with a cocktail du jour at the piano-jazz bar, with a rejuvenating hammam and massage at the spa, or with a dip in a choice of two swimming pools, under the shade of olive trees, or in the oasis of a luxurious secret garden at the hotel’s own Country Club sanctuary.

A short shuttle ride away in the exclusive Palmeraie suburb, the idyllic Country Club boasts a stunning kasbah, a traditional Berber tent and fragrant gardens with flower-filled fountains. From its captivating warmth to its legendary culinary legacy, La Maison Arabe enchants all your senses with the indispensable pleasures of life.

COOKING SCHOOL
La Maison Arabe’s long culinary history dates back to 1946, when two enterprising French women, Hélène Sébillon-Larochette, and her daughter, Suzy, were granted the right by the pasha Thami el Glaoui to set up the first restaurant open to foreigners in the medina.

The pasha provided a servant from his nearby palace to teach them the intricacies of Moroccan cuisine, and La Maison Arabe quickly became one of the leading restaurants on the African continent. La Maison Arabe has since become renowned for its cooking workshops, which are open to in-house guests and all food lovers visiting Marrakech.

Learn step-by-step the secrets of authentic Moroccan cuisine from our dadas (traditional Moroccan cooks), using modern, everyday kitchen equipment to make precious recipes passed down from generation to generation.

COOKING WORKSHOPS
Our workshops are conducted at our cooking schools, either in the hotel or at our Country Club, where you can pick fresh herbs in our organic garden, ingredients for preparing a delicious Moroccan tagine.

In a typical half-day workshop, you’ll learn to prepare an appetizer and a main dish, and be treated to a demonstration of the dessert before enjoying the fruits of your labour. Every individual cooking station is equipped with a closed-circuit screen to ensure you don’t miss a thing.

Besides a 3-hour workshop, we also offer a 1-hour express class, allowing visitors who might be pressed for time to learn the ins and outs of preparing a Moroccan dish.

MOROCCAN CUISINE PROGRAMME
Indulge your passion for food and cooking on an immersive 5-day programme. As well as daily cooking workshops to learn traditional local dishes, you can explore the great variety of Moroccan fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices on a Jemaa El Fna market tour.

The programme also includes a day trip to the port town of Essaouira, a heaven for seafood lovers, and a visit to a local cooperative producing Morocco’s wondrous argan oil.

MARRAKECH
La Maison Arabe is hidden away in the heart of the ancient medina of Marrakech, close to the Bab Doukkala Mosque and a 10-minute walk from Jemma El Fna Square, at the edge of the souks. It is centrally located for exploring most of the city’s major attractions.

Heritage & Hip
Morocco conjures an aura of mystery and a sense of wanderlust. It’s a land that casts a spellbinding charm in vibrant cities rich in history, surrounded by spectacular landscapes – nowhere more so than Marrakech.

One of Morocco’s four ancient imperial cities, Marrakech is alive with more than 1,000 years of history and a diverse culture of Berber and Arab influences.

At the heart of the city is the 11th century medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, surrounded by a 16km ancient wall and entered via 19 magnificently imposing gates. Weaving through the medieval alleyways of the medina, it’s easy to believe you’ve taken a journey back in time.

Beyond the medina in the Gueliz district, narrow alleyways give way to wide French-style boulevards, revealing a more modern side to the city, one of contemporary art galleries, designer fashion boutiques, chic bars and upscale gastronomy.

Roam further beyond the city’s ancient walls and you can discover more in the way of adventure, whether in the desert of Agafay or on the slopes of the Atlas Mountains that cradle Marrakech.
