GETTING THERE
Half the fun is getting there! It’s a spectacular trip — the drive is a reason in itself for visiting the desert. It’s an eclectic mix of mountain passes, lush valleys, Berber villages clinging to the mountain side, dilapidated kasbahs, palm groves and awe inspiring rock formations.

It is simply an exciting voyage, as one travels through a myriad of landscapes from the frenetic activity of Marrakech to the calm and open vistas of the desert.

The trip to the desert is quite long, about 9 hours, but it should not be rushed. There’s a timelessness about the desert, and the trip should not be governed by the need to arrive anywhere at a specific time. For sure, one wants to arrive at the camp near sunset, but you don’t want to hurry either.

Ideally, the preferred itinerary, provided you have time, is to spend one night at a some Kasbah en Road to the desert, some days in the desert and then return to Marrakech or Fez (Fes ). if you don’t have so much time available, you can either drive direct to the desert, or reduce the length of stay at the camp to two nights.

So, if you are going directly to the camp from Marrakech or Fes we suggest you depart as early as possible, about 06:00. If staying en route a departure sometime after breakfast is fine.

Most guests take a 4×4 with driver, not only because it is more relaxing and informative, but also because the camp is difficult to find and the drive in the desert quite technical. However, it is also possible to self-drive as far as ERFOUD and rent from there a 4×4 with driver.

For those seeking adventure you can rent a 4×4 in Marrakech and drive to the camp although you will require a guide from Erfoud or Merzouga. There is no specific itinerary, because everyone has different interests and wants to do things at a different pace.

DESERT EXCURSION

VISITING FOSSILS
Erfoud is located behind the Atlas mountains at the edge of the Sahara desert. From Merzouga, it is less than 1h00 drive Northwest direction (53 km). During the Palaeozoic era – about 540 million to 250 million years ago – the southeast of Morocco lay under the sea.

Local collector says the area is today home to “close to 500 varieties of fossils spread over 100 square kilometres” including trilobites, which are between 410 and 500 million years old.

At your arrival, the manager as guide gives an informative tour in good English of his huge collection , highlighting the wide variety of fossils and the many forms they have manufactured them from artistic display objects to major pieces of furniture.

In the town’s museum, in the exhibition space, a fine cloud of dust hangs above craftsmen who are working to cut, carve and polish the fossils pulled from the ground. After transporting blocks of stone from a quarry on the outskirts of town, workers cut them into pieces, then the artisans sculpt them into diverse objects such as fountains, bathtubs and even tables.

In a region traditionally renowned for its dates – the fossil trade is a rare year-round source of sustainable income for the people of Erfoud.

The word yoga comes from the sanskrit root yug which means link, tie in the sens of union of body and spirit. Yoga appears like a life phisosophy which ai mis harmony between mind and body.

Practice is based on postures (asanas) and work on breath (pranayamas). Progressive discipline which will bring you to self discovery in a physical, mental and emotional harmony. Yoga allows a deep relaxation in a stable spirit.

Your Yoga Teacher is set up in Morocco for 14 years and intensively practice yoga for more than 10 years. She has the Yoga Alliance International Diploma as well as a chineese medicine certificate. She practices Qi Gong, Tibetan meditation and mindfulness.

To start a meditation, we first calm and focus the mind. To do this we usually concentrate on the breath or on an object. We then use this focussed attention to develop insight. The ultimate aim of Buddhist meditation is insight into the nature of mind.

Meditation is a profound method that reaches deep enough to fully enlighten us. Meditation can give us a bigger perspective, which in turn can lead to less stress. Experiencing less stress gives a cascade of physical and mental benefits. Physically, we can experience better sleep and more energy. Psychologically, we are simply happier.

Your Meditation Master is a qualified Lama who studies and practices meditation for more than 30 years. University Professor and Chairman of a Tibetan Meditation Center in France during 11 years, he is now set up in Marrakech where he has opened the first Tibetan Meditation Temple.
