Castiglioncello del Trinoro, the Medieval village that hosts Monteverdi, is located in the Val d’Orcia region of Tuscany and is equidistant to Rome (180 km/111 mi) and Florence (120 km/74 mi).

Celebrated in many Renaissance paintings, the iconic landscape of the Val d’Orcia has profoundly influenced the development of landscape thinking. This landscape is yours to discover as you explore a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site characterized by its hypnotizing hills topped by fortified communities.

Stepping through the Sienese gate at the west end of Castiglioncello del Trinoro brings you to our three meticulously restored private village houses. This is the timeless Tuscany you dream about. Panoramic views of rolling fields of gold and green grain, cypress trees and vineyards.

The reconstruction of these medieval structures incorporates indigenous wood, Tuscan flagstone and granite, and Travertine. Designer Ilaria Miani infused the interior of each private village house with her completely original style and eclectic sensibility.

By juxtaposing the original beams, arches and stairways with contemporary furnishings, she has created a unique aesthetic that transcends time. Our fine-dining restaurant, informal Enoteca, chic cocktail bar, multisensory spa, art gallery and performing arts venue—in a 14th-century Romanesque church—are moments away.

SIX BEDROOMS PRIVATE VILLAGE HOUSE
Muri Antichi, our six-bedroom private house, has been meticulously restored and designed using the finest local marble and wood. The aesthetic pairs ancient stone construction with contemporary design.

This classic Tuscan dwelling features a fully equipped, modern kitchen with the latest European appliances, decadent marble-clad bathrooms, and modern interior surround sound systems.

Balanced with timeless comforts, such as an eclectic and riveting library lined with endless classics, stately beautiful wood-burning fireplaces, and a private terrace with dining pergola and gardens set amongst sweeping views of the rolling hills of the countryside.

The charming San Pietro affords two private bedrooms, each with en-suite private bathrooms, an inviting living room furnished with comforts to replenish the mind and body, and a modern kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances.

Enjoy the downstairs master suite, a true haven for the senses to lounge in hand-sewn Italian leather recliners and unwind with your favorite novel on a bed covered with hand-dyed lavish linens.

A second bedroom and en-suite private bathrooms offers a sanctuary to welcome friends and family, who will equally enjoy the peaceful luxury of this inviting accommodation.

OREADE
Intentionally sourced and carefully plated, our fine-dining concept celebrates each season with products cultivated by local producers, our friends, whose farms dot the Tuscan landscape. THE LIBRARY BAR 
This cozy space is perfect for those in need of a space to relax, read a book, enjoy aperitivo, or to just be while taking in breathtaking views of the Val d’Orcia and Mount Cetona. Enjoy a full menu of espresso drinks or cold-pressed juices in the daytime or a glass of wine or your favorite cocktail each evening.

THE LOUNGE & TERRACE BAR 
Join us in the lounge to enjoy a glass of wine or cocktail, sit by the fire, and take in the curated selection from our private art collection. This inviting space is anchored by a Fazioli piano where, on many nights, you can experience a concert performed by one of our frequent artists-in-residence. Just outside, on our private terrace, be taken by breathtaking sunsets.

ZITA
For centuries the Tuscan climate has nourished the soul and soil, producing some of the world’s best produce, day after day. Our newest casual concept celebrates the ritual of daily dining and the joy of gathering around the table to experience pure products and a menu featuring dishes made for sharing.

WINE TASTING
Experience an unconventional take on classic wine tasting. Guests are invited to connect taste to terroir and memory in this interactive class. Choose from a Super Tuscan, Beyond Sangiovese or Walking Around Val d’Orcia theme each featuring four wines with distinctive histories and stories. Tastings are available Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday from 5:00 – 6:30p.

Based on the GeoSensorial method, this tasting is a departure from the classic intellectual approach to wine tasting, instead focusing on a sensorial and emotional experience.

At the heart of the wine is the taste and its ability to stimulate memories and feelings by linking them to the terroir that you are drinking. The tasting is based on 4 different wines. Please choose from one of the following:

SUPERTUSCANS
High quality red wines made from varieties or using blends that defy Tuscan law. Beginning in the 1960s, some Tuscan producers began experimenting with non-indigenous varieties from Bordeaux, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.

As these wines from within and beyond Chianti punched well above their lowly Vino da Tavola status, they collectively became known as Super Tuscans. The term became synonymous with adventurous winemaking, with producers experimenting with French barrels and new viticultural methods.

SANGIOVESE
The growing interest in native vines of Tuscany has led to a precious enrichment in the wine scene. In recent years, interest in indigenous vines has grown tremendously– lesser known and explored, often linked to geographically limited territories, capable of reserving innate, often pleasant surprises for the palate.

Tuscany, heir to the ancient winemaking Etruria, has several indigenous vines of considerable interest, such as Foglia Tonda, Canaiolo, Vermentino Nero, Pugnitello, Colorino, Malvasia Nera and others.

WALKING AROUND VAL D’ORCIA 
The spectacular, unspoiled countryside of Tuscany’s Val d’Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, looks as though it’s been lifted out of a Renaissance painting, offering a quintessential Italian landscape.

Val d’Orcia wine production is expressed in an extremely heterogeneous territory and in a consequent wide selection of wines, mainly red, which reach the apex of their tradition in Montalcino, where the vineyard, the earth and man are linked by a culture more than a millennium old.

CHEF GIANCARLA BODONI 
Executive Chef Giancarla Bodoni presides over all the culinary offerings at Monteverdi Tuscany, including Oreade, the Enoteca, the Culinary Academy and our private dining experiences. For over 25 years, Chef Giancarla has been a pioneer of the organic, slow-food movement.

She passionately sources and fills Monteverdi’s kitchens with only the highest quality and freshest ingredients. Chef seizes every opportunity to take advantage of the abundance that surrounds our village – from the world-class wines in the region to the finest products from small family farms that dot the Tuscan landscape.

THE CULINARY ACADEMY
The Culinary Academy features a state-of-the-art teaching kitchen, individual modules for up to 12 students, as well as indoor and outdoor dining space so that each class can comfortably and immediately enjoy the fruits of learning.

Located just below Castiglioncello’s piazza, the Culinary Academy has been infused into one of the village’s beautiful historic buildings that served for nearly two centuries as a school for the local children.

COOKING CLASSES
Take part in a cooking lesson you will never forget alongside our culinary team. Using the freshest ingredients from the Tuscan countryside, learn to prepare classic Tuscan dishes like pici pasta, boar ragù, and other regional specialties. Classes are held every ​​Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday from 11:00am-12:30pm. Each class is followed by lunch.

CHEF’S TABLE
An interactive dinner brings together the finest seasonal ingredients within an intimate, communal format. Experience a five-course dinner paired with a carefully curated selection of wines each Tuesday between 7:30 pm-10:30 pm. The Chef’s Table experience can welcome up to 8 guests. Reservations must be made 48 hours in advance.

PRIVATE DINING

INSPIRED & INTIMATE PERFORMANCES
Every year, as part of our Monteverdi Music and Arts Program, we also invite internationally acclaimed performing artists to stay at the property and share their talents.

This year Monteverdi is again proud to host many concerts by the best musicians and singers in the world. The concerts are held in the sublime setting of our 14th Century Romanesque church, Chiesa di Sant’Andrea.

THE MONTEVERDI GALLERY
The Monteverdi Art Gallery is a place for important international artists to exhibit new works during short residencies in Castiglioncello del Trinoro.

To date, the gallery has exhibited artists such as Patrizio Di Massimo (IT), Jeremy Deller and Tash Amini (UK), Sanya Kantarovsky (RU/US), Laure Prouvost (FR), Marvin Gaye Chetwynd (UK), LV Peng (China) and forthcoming artist, Nicholas Deshayes (FR).

These artists, more often found exhibiting in museums such as Tate, London, MoMA, New York, LaCMA, Los Angeles, Centre Pompidou, Paris, and MAXXI, Roma, many of whom have represented their countries at the Venice Biennale, come to Monteverdi Gallery for a brief respite, to try out new ideas and share their work and thoughts with us, in our intimate gallery space.

LA BELLA MUSICA DI MONTEVERDI 
La Bella Musica di Monteverdi is a digital artist-in-residence series created to support musicians and artists while simultaneously bringing a small measure of comfort and beauty to those confined to their homes.

From mini-operas to readings from New York Time’s best selling books, each performance is recorded from the homes of internationally acclaimed, award-winning musicians and artists. New performances available weekly.

PORTRAITS OF BEAUTY 
Ri’tratti di bellezza, or portraits of beauty, is our quarterly traveler’s notebook that showcases Monteverdi as a place where one can step out of time and enjoy beauty.

Conceived in collaboration with creative couple Carlotta Bertelli, photographer, and Gianluca Guaitoli, art director, the ri’tratti shares Monteverdi’s distinctive experience through a seasonal visual narrative captured within our hilltop village, Castiglioncello del Trinoro.

By distilling the beauty of everyday life through words, photos and space, the ri’tratti acts as a diary and outlet for inspiration to flourish. For the first time, we are sharing this project digitally to hightlight warm memories and faces from Castiglioncello del Trinoro and spark inspiration.
