IN-BETWEEN THE SKY AND THE SEA
Architect, Yasuhiro Yamashita (Atelier Tekuto and Amami Design firm) is a born and bred Amami local and was inspired by old Amamian houses Takakura and designed the resort buildings with traditional raised floor granaries with walls and roof lines shaped like Amamian conch-seashells Makigai.
Traditional Oshima Tsumugi hand-woven pongee mud dyeing techniques were used on building material that were soaked in iron-rich mud giving the wood surface a deep gray colour.
By combining local culture with modern Japanese concepts, the resort has retained the original landscape, showcasing the indigenous vegetation and ocean view.
The surrounding sea and mountains with open sky and wind in the bay provides a sense of peace and serenity. With our guests’ comfort as the key mission, our services aim to create a “Nest at Amami” village atmosphere that reflects the island’s unique and friendly culture.
Nest at Amami Beach Villas is a 23 keys resort with a mix of pool, ocean and hillside villas (with the option of Japanese open-air baths).The outdoor balcony decks have unobstructed views of the vast open sky that envelopes the ocean and mountains around the bay.
POOL VILLA

OCEAN VILLA

AMANARI
The name of the Restaurant AMANARI is derived from name of the island AMAMI and the NARI seed of the native plant Sotetsu (Japanese Cycas revoluta). The NARI seed is toxic and poisonous.
In times of poverty and food shortages, local Amamians, found a way to remove the toxin and use the seed for cooking as soul food for many generations. The NARI seed to this date, symbolises the resilient nature of the people of the island.
AMANARI modern Japanese cuisine utilizes local and seasonal ingredients that are expertly prepared for you.
BREAKFAST
We offer traditional Japanese and western style breakfast to start the relaxing morning out on the deck looking down the dazzling and shining waters of the Ashitoku, Akaogi Bay.
LUNCH
AMANARI offers a broad selection of light-hearted casual Japanese dishes.
DINNER
Our Omakase dinner courses are set menu specially crafted with local and seasonal ingredients combining island and modern Japanese cuisine. We serve a variety of Kokuto (Brown sugar) Shochu from various islands of Amami archipelago.
