Tucked away in the hills of San Pantaleo, overlooking the Costa Smeralda, Petra Segreta Resort & Spa offers five-star accommodation and cuisine immersed in Sardinia’s rugged countryside. Petra Segreta Resort & Spa, a romantic hotel in Sardinia, was created by Rosella Marchese and Luigi Bergeretto.
This exclusive refuge with a limited number of rooms offers views over the azure waters of the La Maddalena archipelago and top-class services in a beautiful natural setting. A world apart, where stress melts away and simple beauty creates wellbeing.
An architect and designer, from early childhood Rosella spent her family holidays in the north of Sardinia. Her passion for the island came to fruition with the Petra Segreta project, which began with just 13 rooms in 2001.
The culmination of a long career in Italy and oversees, where she worked on a major hotel project, the Petra Segreta style reflects a wealth of experience through the skilful combination of Sardinian pieces and objects from around the world, creating a unique and welcoming atmosphere where meticulous attention is paid to every detail.
In addition to the interior design, Rosella creates fresh bouquets for the rooms and common spaces each day: everything must be perfect for her guests.
A childhood partly spent in Léopoldville in the former Belgian Congo left the colours and scents of Africa firmly imprinted on Luigi Bergeretto’s heart. On his return to Italy he studied medicine and worked as a doctor for more than 20 years.
In the 1990s his passion for cooking led him to open a restaurant for friends on the ground floor of the family villa and to a role as a food and health expert on a national morning TV show.
In 1996, in Canouan in the Grenadines, he oversaw five restaurants and a cookery school, and was awarded the “Five Star Diamond Award” for his work and for the best Italian restaurant in the Caribbean.
He then moved to Sardinia with his wife Rosella and opened the La Locanda di Flavio e Luigi restaurant, close to the Costa Smeralda.
Today his Fuoco Sacro and Osteria del Mirto restaurants, here at the Petra Segreta, reflect his rich professional experience: the organic gardens and farm on the resort, which he created specially to supply the kitchens, are employed in creative and flavourful dishes, a triumphant return to genuine food.
ROOMS & SUITES
Hidden amidst the hills of San Pantaleo, overlooking Costa Smeralda, it is clear to see that the cottages hosting the 25 rooms and suites at Petra Segreta Resort & Spa are owned and continuously looked after by a professional architect.
Behind the low, traditional Sardinian stone-cottage exteriors that blend seamlessly with the richly perfumed surrounding flora, lie contemporary interiors in calming tones decorated with handwoven fabrics, oriental ornaments, souvenirs from around the world and works of art.
The suites have private heated pools, some of which have been carved from the surrounding rock, and airy verandas from which to enjoy unique views of the waters and the colors of Sardinia.
MASTER SUITE
The 65sqm Master Suite offers a stunning panorama over the Gulf of Arzachena. The two communicating bedrooms each have their own bathroom with bath and shower and open onto a furnished and shaded outdoor veranda of 40sqm.
The heated pool, carved out next to a giant boulder, offers a spectacular sea view. Oriental woods and embroidered fabrics, rustic floorings and beamed ceilings create the unique atmosphere that brings guests from across the globe to the Petra Segreta Resort.
VILLA PETRA SEGRETA
Staying in our 3-bedroom villa equals to intensely enjoying every moment you spend on our beautiful island. Immersed in 5,000 sqm of Mediterranean Maquis and surrounded by granite rocks filled with energy, the villa is a typical, finely furnished Gallura’s stazzo.
The owners have meticulously chosen the furniture in the island’s artisan workshops and on their travels around the world. The villa consists of 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a large living room overlooking the garden and a heated swimming pool.
Staying in the villa means taking advantage of large spaces in absolute privacy, without giving up the pleasure of hotel services: breakfast, as well as any other requested meal, is prepared by our chef and his brigade. We also guarantee a daily cleaning service and assistance with staff dedicated to your needs.
DINING
Petra Segreta Resort & Spa is one of the most popular gourmet destinations in Costa Smeralda. The hotel has two restaurants: Il Fuoco Sacro is an elegant and refined gourmet restaurant with views over the archipelago, while Osteria del Mirto Bistrot offers a more informal atmosphere between lunch and dinner and is only open to resident guests.
Five hectares of Mediterranean vegetation and granite boulders sculpted by the wind surround the two establishments and the new open-air bar: an al fresco lounge in which to enjoy the best Sardinian and Italian wines – both before and after sunset – accompanied by Chef Luigi Bergeretto’s aperitifs.
Two different experiences, but with a common culinary philosophy wherein the freshest and highest quality seasonal ingredients and produce from the resort’s own organic farm are transformed, with respect and creativity, into Luigi’s dishes.
IL FUOCO SACRO RESTAURANT
The hotel’s gourmet restaurant. Elegant and refined, Il Fuoco Sacro Restaurant proposes a menu showcasing the best of Italian and regional cuisine and specialties. The menu includes a wide selection of rich and flavorsome vegetarian dishes using ingredients freshly harvested from the hotel’s organic garden.
Meats and fish grilled on a wood fire together with dairy products made just 300mt away at Petra Segreta Resort & Spa’s own farm, Stazzo Malcusa, complete the offering. External guests are welcome at Il Fuoco Sacro Restaurant (at lunch only).
OSTERIA DEL MIRTO
Osteria del Mirto is a bistrot, overlooking the outdoor pool and open only to the hotel guests. A refreshing refuge in which to enjoy quick, light Mediterranean dishes whose ingredients shine through.
Lovers of true Italian fare must try the pizza made with the best quality flour and naturally leavened for 48 hours. In the Osteria del Mirto kitchen the freshest raw materials, prepared by a great chef, create a remarkable balance between the best of nature alongside culinary artistry.
THE CHEF
Luigi Bergeretto and his team interpret traditional Italian and regional recipes with creativity, experimenting with new combinations to make them light and flavoursome.
Dishes on the menu use the highest quality seasonal ingredients and produce fresh from Petra Segreta’s own farm. The wine list includes the best Sardinian labels as well as a carefully studied selection of national and international wines.
WELLNESS & SPA
Petra Segreta Resort & Spa is a magical refuge for a relaxing wellness break in Sardinia. Two giant granite boulders stand guard over the route leading to the spa, housed in an authentic Balinese cabin.
These stones are charged with an ancestral energy, somewhere between magic and science: the showers of particles emitted by these megaliths provide natural magnetic therapy.
Petra Segreta Resort & Spa offers guests an energy trail within the property, accompanied by an expert guide, while therapists provide massages and beauty treatments at the cabin.
The Wellness Centre at the 5-star Relais & Chateaux Petra Segreta Resort & Spa in Sardinia aims to balance physical health and inner consciousness. The “Sardinian Pleasure” package includes treatments using herbs and essential oils from the area, rich in precious active ingredients.
Our expert therapists can advise you on the best combinations and uses to help you revitalise. The centre has a Turkish bath, Roman sauna, emotional showers, relaxation area, beauty treatment cabins and a pool with hydro-massage and geysers, for a relaxing and regenerating experience.
