A unique and unforgettable view of Florence: the city is at its best when seen from the Plaza Hotel Lucchesi. The hotel opened in 1860, one of the first in the city. Today it has been completely renovated while still preserving its original character: the historical Plaza Hotel Lucchesi is the ideal place from which to experience Florence.
THE HISTORY
While Leonardo da Vinci is known by all to be the painter of the Mona Lisa, perhaps not everyone is aware that at the end of the 15th and the beginning of the 16th centuries he carried out numerous studies and measurements along the course of the River Arno to build a navigable canal which would connect Florence with its neighbours Prato, Pistoia and Serravalle.
During the era of his observations, the Lungarno della Zecca Vecchia, where today the Plaza Hotel Lucchesi is located, didn’t yet exist: in its place stood rather the city walls.
The site where the hotel would be built was located next to the fields of the Hospital of SS Philip and Jacob. The same structure was also known as “Hospital of the Small Tower” because here stood several tall and narrow towers facing the Arno, or again as “Hospital of the Stump”, from the hollow in the tree trunk where the faithful would leave alms for the poor.

All the Deluxe rooms have unforgettable views: either of the River Arno and San Miniato al Monte, or, on the other side, of the splendid Church of Santa Croce towering above the rooftops of Florence.
All the Deluxe rooms have large panoramic windows and spacious balconies where in nice weather our guests can enjoy the view over breakfast or while sipping a cocktail at sunset, all in the maximum privacy.

The bold and soft tastes of our beverages come to life when paired with the culinary offerings of our chef. The drinking and dining experience at Plaza Hotel Lucchesi involves all five senses.
Our wine list offers a wide choice of wines of local producers, while our selection of craft beers follows the same criterion.
We highlight the excellence of the Italian tradition, focusing especially on small producers but also adding some big names: the aim is to involve our guests in a journey of discovery of special products, be they wines, beers, liquors, cocktails or food dishes.

Since opening in 2014, Empireo has provided both guests of Hotel Plaza Lucchesi and Florentines with a unique and breath-taking view of the city.

Empireo is open during summer; the swimming pool is for the exclusive use of our guests. After 7:30 pm entrance is open to non-guests who have made reservations.
