THE HISTORY OF VILLA SPARVIERO
Trip to Sicily by Mr. Baron Di Riedesel“…The water is so clear all along the beach that you can count the pebbles on the sea bed…. “. This is a description by Baron Von Riedesel when speaking about the incomparable view when gazing out to sea in Taormina.
Though he uttered these words 250 years ago during his travels in Sicily, he could have been admiring those amazing sights today, from a cliff side, next to the sea around Capo Taormina and Isola Bella, maybe the same that today you could enjoy directly from the splendid “Villa Sparviero”, ancient property nestled on the bend of the road taking you from the sea to Taormina centre.
An extraordinary road that winds along the coast of Monte Tauro and that today just as many centuries ago, gives the visitor a unique view and indescribable sensation: Taking in the intoxicating smell of the orange bloom, roses and other colourful flowers that adorn the road, with flashes of cacti and other Mediterranean plants – this road is the most evocative entrance to Taormina.
Combine that with the fact that every turn you make around a bend, gives you glimpses of one spectacular view or another. Whether it is that of Calabria and the Straits of Messina, or of the enchanting bay of Giardini Naxos, dominated by the imposing view of Mount Etna, that seems to stretch to the sky.
Considering building “Villa Sparviero” in this beautiful setting, stunning at whatever time of day seemed obvious and the sensations you experience standing outside the Villa enjoying the view, needed to be reflected inside, creating a calm, clean and relaxing atmosphere.
