Sher Bagh, evokes nostalgic sensibilities of life on safari during the heydays of an era celebrated for its art de vivre, living elegantly under canvas, whilst on safari.

With crackling campfires under starlit skies, sumptuous Anglo-Indian repasts using homegrown organic produce, coupled with old-world service, the camp epitomises life on safari as it ought to be lived.

Ranthambhore is the world’s finest place to observe tigers in the wild, and SUJÁN Sher Bagh is the ideal base from which to explore this billion-year-old forest, with the mighty citadel that lends its name to the reserve rising majestically at the heart of it.

With ruins of palaces, cenotaphs and follies dotted around the jungle, now inhabited by its wild denizens, with the tiger at the apex, it is a spectacular wildlife haven.

Our 12 tented suites, kitted out with custom-made campaign furniture and accoutrements, include two resplendent suites, each a celebration of elegance. Our highly-trained field team & guides are an integral part of our guests’ experience. Their knowledge, and their passionate enthusiasm, add a deeper and interactive dimension to being on safari in Ranthambhhore.

DINING & CUISINE
Our carefully designed menus combine Anglo-Indian and European lunches, with traditional Indian dinners cooked on outdoor clay ovens. The nourishing homegrown ingredients, handpicked from our organic herb and vegetable garden and the Sher Bagh Farm, add great value to an entirely fresh gastronomical experience.

Live cooking, where guests are invited to participate, is an enduring feature of camp life and one of the most relaxing ways to round off a day tracking wildlife in the jungle.

We welcome you to share these culinary experiences where, surrounded by wild grasses and under the dome of a starlit sky, one eats off traditional thalis while sharing the jungle lore of the day. Meals can be served in more secluded areas of the camp for those looking to spend a private evening under the stars.

FARM TO TABLE
As a member of Relais & Châteaux, SUJÁN’s chefs showcase the best local flavours, making for an unforgettable gastronomic journey. Our farm-to-table approach offers daily menus filled with fresh, seasonal produce.

We grow everything as organically as possible and in a biologically sustainable manner. All around the world, Relais & Châteaux chefs strive for the same goal: to offer thrilling, memorable meals. Our selection of ingredients, honed techniques, perceptive associations of flavours all combine to create an art of true excellence in perfect harmony with an idyllic setting.

JUNGLEE COOKING CLASS
Sher Bagh is celebrated for its family recipes and menus, its outdoor kitchen and its team of innovative chefs. Freshly produced salads and ingredients from Sher Bagh’s organic herb and vegetable garden are used to create delicious, sumptuous meals. As always, guests are welcome to participate in cooking sessions with the team, if they so choose, either to learn our recipes or to share their own.

SPA & WELLNESS
The SUJÁN Spa lies under the spread of an ancient peepal tree, ensuring seclusion and privacy amidst a medley of birdsong. We offer a variety of therapies ranging from a full body massage to long practiced reflexology treatments.

Whatever your choice, the treatments are a relaxing and healthy interlude. Our therapists have been professionally trained by some of the best-known masters. Popular with guests after a journey on rural roads, the ‘pot hole reviver’ is a huge hit.

When not on a game drive, unwind with a massage in the SUJÁN Spa, relax under the shade of a tree with a book from the library, or take a dip in the outdoor pool. Yoga classes are also available and we have a small gym at camp.

GAME DRIVES
With the family’s conservation commitment to Ranthambhore going back almost 50 years, the safari experience here is unsurpassed. Ranthambhore National Park is the finest habitat in the world to watch tigers in the wild. Mughal ruins, palaces and cenotaphs lie in the embrace of ancient hills and forests.

Apart from being home to the tiger, other animals commonly seen are the wild boar, deer, antelope and monkey. The jackal, mongoose, sloth bear and leopard also roam this forest. In winter, thousands of birds migrate from Europe and Siberia making Ranthambhore an ornithologist’s paradise. Please get in touch with us for advance safari bookings.

RANTHAMBHORE FORT RAMBLE
This formidable 8th century fort, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was strategically located in North India and became especially important during the Mughal period. The Great Mughal emperor, Akbar, wrested control of the fort in 1569.

Considered impregnable, this crenelated citadel sits atop a ridge at the very heart of the park. It has Sultanate and Rajput palaces, mosques and temples, including an important temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the Elephant God. Thousands of people come here from every corner of the country to seek the blessings of the lord for happiness and prosperity.

Visitors are allowed access to the fort from the park gates through a beautiful part of the forest in the heart of tiger territory. The views of the reserve from the battlements are breathtaking. Our guides will navigate you through the fort and its rich history. Alternatively, a picnic at the fort can be arranged.

THE SUJÁN LIFE BOUTIQUE
The fine hand skills of India’s artisans keep our legacies alive, weaving magical stories of the past, merging them with the vibrant energy of a contemporary world.

Our SUJÁN Life Boutique is full of carefully sourced and exclusive treasures for our guests to take home from art, to books, home décor, jewellery & clothing, purchases help support our local artisans and contribute to our conservation & community projects. All of our bespoke, hand-picked items can be wrapped and/or shipped to guest’s home address upon request.

DASTAKAR NGO
Dastkar Ranthambhore is a non-profit organisation that produces handicrafts created by women from the villages around the Ranthambhore National Park. Founded in 1989, this was an effort to empower and provide income to villagers on the periphery of the tiger reserve.

At Sher Bagh, we are committed to the idea that craft can be a powerful social, economic, and cultural force that has enormous potential to transform lives. We have long been supporting Dastkar. Guests get an opportunity to speak with the women and watch them at work.

Their wide range of handmade products, including clothes, toys, quilts, cushion covers, throws, and other furnishings, are available at the centre which is a short or a leisurely walk from camp.
