The hotel is a historic, Grade II listed building, dating back to the 18th century. It has been and remains at the heart of the community of this Northumbrian coastal village for more than two centuries.

Our sympathetic refurbishment of the building in 2019 aimed to keep as much of the character of the building as possible, whilst at the same time offering a boutique feel, home comforts, a touch of elegance and a splash of style. Each of our 18 rooms is as individual as the rest, part of a living, historic building and as such no two are the same in size, shape or features.

As Beadnell Towers is truly your ‘home from home’, all family members, including four legged ones are most welcome for your stay in Northumberland. We have four dog friendly bedrooms, where specialised dog friendly features and bedding will be available, along with items such as food and water bowls and even some welcome treats.

Dogs will always be most welcome to accompany you as you relax in the bar and they can enjoy getting soaked in the sea or as muddy as they like – our special dog washing area at the hotel is available to ensure your hound is always presentable.

PAIROCK ROOM
Pairock is our ground floor accessible room. In calm cream, with elegant touches of sage, it’s a cosy and bright space with an en suite wet room complete with decorative tiled floor and a huge drench shower.

There’s a king-size Hypnos bed to snuggle up in and a comfy seating area, with some lovely touches – a collection of vintage frames showcases beachcombing finds and local landmarks. Pairock’s oak floors make it a brilliant dog-friendly room too.

INBYESIDE ROOM
There’s a fresh feel to Inbyeside with its wallpaper full of summer flowers; you’ll also find a combination of wood panelling in soft colours with exposed stonework and natural materials combining to give a harmonious and comfortable feel. Vintage-inspired frames showcase small collections of beach finds and touches of earth tones make the space warm and welcoming.

There’s a large impressive en suite room with double sinks, a substantial walk-in drench shower and lovely exposed stonework showing off the original structure of this historic building. On the first floor, Inbyeside also has it’s own secluded outdoor terrace where you can enjoy an aperitif under the stars or catch the last rays of the sun after a lazy day on the beach.

DOOSE ROOM
On the first floor, dramatic Doose has sumptuous fabric wallpaper in deep navy blue with accents of bright red. Full length curtains in stripes of red and dark sand with soft carpet underfoot create a wonderfully cosy feel; with a walk-in drench shower in the ensuite bathroom, and lovely vintage-inspired glass light fittings, Doose combines a contemporary edge with comfort.

We’ve used natural materials for the bespoke wooden desk and bedside tables, which look gorgeous in the glow of the gentle lighting, all together creating a supremely comfortable ambience. Curl up in Doose’s luxurious King size bed and relax with a movie on the wall-mounted screen. It’s the cosiest place to unwind.

CANTY ROOM
On the first floor, Canty is a stunning light filled space, with its high vaulted ceiling, original wooden beams and exposed stonework. There’s a gorgeous sofa which converts to a double bed, so it’s an ideal room for family stays. Its big windows have padded seats and plenty of cushions so you can curl up with a book or just watch the world go by.

Decorated in cool creams with deep claret colour accents and natural fabrics, the stripped back wooden floor and contemporary design sets off the original features beautifully. Snuggle up in Canty’s King size bed with a seafaring-inspired glass lantern overhead and you’ll drift off for the perfect night’s sleep.

SHIEL ROOM
One of our really sumptuous Heritage Rooms, there’s lots to discover in Shiel. We’ve made the most of our historic building, so there’s high ceiling spaces open to the roof as well as a dramatic exposed stone wall. When you walk in you’ll see that first floor Shiel is full of lovely natural light with soft green and sage accents complementing the original features.

Collections of vintage postcards and beachcombing finds hang on the walls and a stunning bespoke pendant light is suspended over the Super King size bed, with soft carpet underfoot. But that’s not all – a doorway leads through into a cosy lounge area where you’ll find more beautiful stonework, an oak floor and an original fireplace featuring a stone lintel and hearth.

It couldn’t be a more perfect haven for curling up on the sofa and watching a movie. Another door then leads onto the en suite bathroom with a walk-in drench shower and more gorgeous original stonework.

Sheil also has its own outdoor terrace where you can relax after a day on the beach. Sheil is not only convertible to a twin room but the sofa is also a double bed, making it a very flexible space for families to enjoy.

CRAA’S NEST ROOM
Perched on the top floor of the hotel, the Craa’s Nest is a superb light and airy Heritage Room. With big windows on three sides and a view of the seas on one side and the Cheviot Hills on the other, it’s the perfect lookout spot. There are high vaulted ceilings with wooden beams, and you’ll love its warm tones and mocha colours.

Gorgeous wooden pendant lights hang in the huge roof space casting a soft glow and illuminating the free-standing copper bath, stunningly situated as a focal point of the room – you can even watch a movie from the bath. There’s a nod to the seaside with its colours of stone and dark sand, not to mention a telescope – to scan the horizon for ships!

ALNWICK CASTLE 
Often referred to as the ‘Windsor of the North,’ Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited castle in the country and has been home to the Duke of Northumberland’s family, the Percys, for over 700 years.

Combining magnificent medieval architecture with Italianate state rooms, Alnwick Castle is one of the UK’s most significant heritage destinations and one of the most impressive visitor attractions in Northumberland.

The Castle has a rich and varied history is full of drama and intrigue, from a gunpowder plotter and visionary collectors, to decadent hosts and medieval England’s most famous knight: Harry Hotspur.

In more recent times, the castle has also featured in a number of film and TV productions, notably as Brancaster Castle in Downton Abbey and previously appearing as parts of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry Potter films.

BAMBURGH CASTLE
Once the royal seat of the Kings of Northumbria, Bamburgh Castle has stood guard over this beautiful coastline for over 1,400 years. Spanning nine acres of land on its rocky plateau, Bamburgh Castle is one of the largest inhabited castles in the country.

The Bamburgh castle seen today is a relatively recent structure, built by famed industrialist the first Lord Armstrong at vast cost in late Victorian times. Lord Armstrong was also responsible for building Cragside House, Gardens & Estates.

But the castle site has a much longer history. There have been settlements there since prehistoric times and the regular archaeological digs that take place on the site have unearthed some spectacular finds.

The castle sits above the beach at Bamburgh which is one of the UK’s most beautiful and most photographed beaches. It’s the perfect place to go for a windswept walk at any time of the year and in summer the golden sands and picturesque sand dunes make the perfect backdrop for a longer stay or a lunchtime picnic.

LINDISFARNE – HOLY ISLAND 
Just a few miles north of Beadnell village is Lindisfarne – or Holy Island as it is also known locally, one of the most special locations in the whole of the UK. The island is cut off from the mainland twice daily and can only be reached at certain times of the day via a causeway.

The island has a small, pretty village and two historic properties, Lindisfarne Priory and Lindisfarne Castle. With beautiful walks, amazing wildlife and a handful of shops, pubs and cafes, Holy Island offers an unusual and enchanting day trip.

FARNE ISLANDS
The Farne Islands are one of the most exciting seabird colonies in England, with unrivalled views of 23 species of birds, including around 37,000 pairs of puffins.

It’s also home to a one of the top grey seal pupping sites in England, with more than 2,000 pups born every autumn. The islands lie two to three miles off the coast, midway between Seahouses and Bamburgh, both of which are close to Beadnell village.

CRAGSIDE
This amazing visitor attraction was the home of Lord Armstrong, Victorian inventor and industrialist. This stunning house, set in extensive gardens and woodland, was the first in the country to be lit by hydroelectricity and boasts an astonishing array of state of the art Victorian gadgetry such as telephones, a lift and a Turkish bath suite.

The vast estate has more than 30 miles of footpaths and lakeside walks along its five lakes. The estate was planted by Armstrong with over 7 million trees and the gardens also boast one of Europe’s largest rock gardens.

NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
For those seeking the cultural and retail pleasures of a city, Newcastle upon Tyne is just an hour’s drive away. Newcastle is often placed in the country’s top five cities to visit and with its busy shopping area, galleries and museums and its impressive quayside area with bars, restaurants and cultural venues, it’s not hard to see why.

MORPETH 
For a more sedate shopping experience, the market town of Morpeth is a 45-minute drive away. Combining beauty and history, the town offers a relaxing day trip to browse around a wide range of shops, from high street regulars, niche brands and unique independent retailers. The 13th century chantry houses both a museum and an arts and crafts centre and there are beautiful walks to be had in Carlisle Park.

The Castle has 9 rooms within the main Castle itself some of which have 4 poster beds and window seats set into 7ft thick walls – and some boast private “features” such as a sauna, spa bath, fire place.

Within the grounds there are a further 18 rooms at CastleView – all of which offer fabulous views up to the main Castle itself which is about 80m – some of these rooms are mini suites with a seating area with sofa bed – so perfect for small families

The Restaurant offers fine dining and also private dining in the Pavilion for upto 28 guests. The Stuart Suite has banquet facilities for upto 120 guests.

HISTORY
Built in 1350, during the reign of Edward III, the castle has retained its architectural integrity and is regarded as one of the few medieval fortified Castle Hotels in England.

Over the past 600 years, the Castle has been owned, together with its estate, by Lords and Ladies whose names were frequently associated with the turbulent history of the Kingdom.

During the 17th century the Langley estates became the property of the Earls of Derwentwater; Viscounts Langley. James , the third Earl and Charles his brother, took part in the Jacobite risings of 1715. They were subsequently executed at the Tower of London. A cross stands by the road from the Castle to Haydon

The property was confiscated by the Crown and its administration passed to the Royal Naval Hospital at Greenwich in London. Signs of the Admiralty’s influence can still be seen in the area. For example the anchor motif on the front of a house at Langley and the naming of a pub in Haydon Bridge as The Anchor.

In 1882 a local historian, Cadwallader Bates, purchased the property. The restoration of the Castle to its original 14th Century structure became a life’s work not only for Cadwallader, but also for his wife Josephine, who continued his work after Cadwalladers death in 1902.

Josephine rebuilt the original chapel on the castle roof in memory of her husband and worked tirelessly until her own death in 1933. She is buried alongside her husband in the castle grounds.

We are currently looking for images of the castle from the last hundred years to put in a new Langley Castle history book and add to the website for others to enjoy.

Langley Castle boasts nine individually designed ‘Feature and Deluxe’ rooms within its incredible medieval walls.

CASTLE VIEW ROOMS
Rooms range from Castle View Standard rooms to Castle View superior rooms and suites, some of which have a lounge separate to the bedroom, complete with sofa beds; perfect for families. Some are also able to be used as twin bedded rooms.

Castle View Lodge is another conversion comprising 2 guest rooms and is situated only a further 100 metres from the main Castle. All our Guests enjoy full access to the Castle to include the drawing room, bar, public areas and Josephine Restaurant.

THE DERWENTWATER ROOM
In 1705 the Langley Estates became the property of the Earls of Derwentwater, Viscounts Langley. James, the 3rd Earl and his brother Charles were strong Jacobites and took leading parts in the “Glorious Rebellions” of 1715 and 1745 which ended the Stuart Dynasty.

Both brothers were captured at Preston in 1715. Charles escaped to France and James was executed. Charles returned to England to aid the 1745 Rebellion, but was caught and beheaded as well.

On the roadside between Haydon Bridge and Langley Castle is a stone cross with inscription, which was erected to commemorate the execution of James and Charles.

THE JOSEPHINE ROOM
The Josephine Room is named after Josephine d’Echarvines, who married the local historian Cadwallader John Bates in 1895. Upon his death in 1902 Josephine dedicated herself to carrying on Bates’ work in the restoration of Langley Castle.

Josephine was granted an audience with Pope Leo XIII in 1902 and given permission to build the Chapel on the roof which was to be in memory of Cadwallader Bates. She spent the next 20 years alone at Langley with just her memories, until her death in 1932. She is buried within the grounds, alongside her husband.

THE TOWER ROOM
Being ‘Sent to the Tower’ in centuries past could result in losing one’s head. At Langley Castle in the 21st century, the Tower Room provides a standard of comfort undreamt of by past treasoners.

James Radcliffe who succeeded to the family honours as Earl of Derwentwater, Viscount Langley, opposed the 1705 Glorious Revolution which unseated the Stuart Dynasty. His part as a leader in the Jacobean Rebellion of 1714 led to his capture at Preston and his subsequent execution at the Tower of London in 1716.

His brother Charles was also beheaded some forty years later in 1746 for his involvement in the Rebellion. A stone cross, situated between Langley Castle and Haydon Bridge, commemorates their deaths.

It reads; “To the memory of James and Charles, Viscounts Langley, Earls of Derwentwater, beheaded on Tower Hill, London, 24th February, 1716, and 8th December, 1746 for loyalty to their Lawful Sovereign”.

There’s a certain unique thrill to be had whilst relishing a fabulously cooked dinner in an intimate restaurant in a medieval castle, not to mention a tingle that comes from morning coffee, a snack or an afternoon tea beneath our shimmering drawing room chandeliers.

With relaxed dining also available, there’s plenty to whet the appetite. Just read our menus to find out more, being aware that seasonality and the produce we can source, may slightly change the dishes available.

THE RESTAURANT
Those with a passion for a dining ‘experience’, as well as first-class food, love to explore our restaurants, judged one of the finest in the North East, boasting a 2AA Rosette and welcoming both residents and non-residents alike.

Feasts for the eyes and the palette are served from 6.30pm, using the finest, freshest produce available to our chefs, with dining taking place either in the Josephine Restaurant OR Pavilion Restaurant, after you have enjoyed a pre-dinner drink in our atmospheric drawing room, whilst deciding on your menu choices.

Please note, that when all of our accommodation is occupied, and the restaurant is fully booked, some of our guests will be seated in the wonderful Pavilion Restaurant for dinner.

HADRIAN’S WALL
A location does not gain World Heritage Site status without good reason and Hadrian’s Wall makes no apologies for being one of the most fascinating World Heritage Sites in the world, with its unique slant on Roman history, on the northernmost frontier of the Roman empire.

A visit to Hadrian’s Wall unlocks a unique period in time, whilst walking in the footsteps of Roman soldiers is something no adult or child should miss out on.

Dating from 122 AD, the Wall has seen more history than can be imagined, much of it brought to life by the museums and visitor attractions like Vindolanda, where archaeological digs still reveal new treasures, to this day.

Something that stretched for 80 miles and took six years to build, deserves exploration, whether on foot, by car or through a special guided tour that will pick you up at Langley Castle’s door.

THE LAKE DISTRICT
The Lake District is England’s most recent World Heritage Site and a location inextricably linked with England’s favourite poet, William Wordsworth, and his contemporaries, Southey and Coleridge.

ALNWICK CASTLE 
Probably Britain’s most iconic castle and the film set for Harry Potter and Downton Abbey, Alnwick Castle is a hugely popular destination that offers something for everyone.

Children and adults alike will enjoy the challenge of the Dragon’s Quest and broomstick training as well as discovering the State Rooms and collections of fine art housed within this imposing fortress. The castle is closed to the general public during the winter months and we advise checking their website for opening times.

THE ALNWICK GARDEN 
Just across the road from the castle, the Duchess of Northumberland’s vision for a forgotten plot is now a one of the most visited gardens in the country. A joy for all the senses, designed for all seasons the gardens boast a collection of over 4,000 plants, thousands of seasonal blooms and many opportunities to get wet and play in The Garden’s water sculptures.

BAMBURGH CASTLE 
This mighty castle dominates the Northumberland shoreline where it stands 150 feet above the sea. The film set for many blockbusters, Bamburgh Castle is full of myth, legend and over 1,400 years of history to explore. The castle is open to the public. Visit the fine state rooms, art gallery and 12th century keep which is the oldest surviving part of the castle.

CRAGSIDE ESTATE
Standing in the Rothbury hills, you’ll find the sprawling Cragside Estate, original family home of Lord Armstrong, Victorian inventor and industrialist, and the birth-place of green energy.

The first building to be lit by hydroelectricity is now a National Trust property offering a truly awe-inspiring day out for the whole family. Aside from the main house itself, there are over 30 miles of paths, play areas and a magnificent display of rhododendrons and azaleas.

DRURIDGE BAY 
Few places compare with the seven mile-stretch of beach that runs from Amble in the north to Cresswell in the south where the Northumberland Coast Path starts.

Enjoy the fabulous beach, sand dunes and rock pools as well as the nature reserves where you’ll spot a myriad of migrating birds. The area is popular for walkers, horse riders and cyclists as well as those trying their hand at water sports.

FARNE ISLANDS 
Home to colonies of puffins, terns, razorbills, kittiwakes, shags and guillemots, and Sir David Attenborough’s favourite place to ‘see nature at its best’, the Farne Islands are a birder’s paradise.

The islands also have the largest breeding colony of grey seals in England and you’ll often see them hauled up on the rocks or bobbing in the sea. Take a boat from Seahouses between Spring and Autumn for the best sightings.

KIELDER OBSERVATORY 
The Northumberland International Dark Sky Park in which Kielder Observatory sits is officially the best place in England to enjoy the stars. Head to Kielder for one of their hugely popular (advanced booking essential) star gazing evenings to see the skies as you’ve never seen them before.

LINDISFARNE ISLAND
Just a few miles off the Northumberland coast, Lindisfarne Island is a must-see destination. Although cut off twice a day from the rest of world by fast-moving tides, you can drive, walk or cycle over the causeway to Holy Island (after checking the safe crossing times).

The epicentre of Christianity in Anglo Saxon times, the Lindisfarne Priory, is one of the region’s most revered treasures and the island remains a place of pilgrimage today. Visit Lindisfarne Castle, spend time in the Lindisfarne museum and potter around the pretty village.

The island status protects tidal mudflats, saltmarshes and dunes which make up the Lindisfarne Nature Reserve, home to rare plants and an exciting array of wildlife. You’ll often see seals hauled up on the sand as well as the abundance of bird species.

MORPETH CHANTRY
Discover the Northumbrian pipes, a very special part of the county’s musical heritage. With a collection of over 150 sets from around the world housed in a stunning medieval Chantry building it’s a wonderful, interactive attraction to entertain the whole family.

SEAHOUSE TO BAMBURGH WALK 
The 3-mile linear walk from Seahouses harbour to the mighty Bamburgh castle is one of the county’s best. Following the coastal path that runs along the beach this easy, flat route takes in attractive sand dunes, wildflowers and views to the nearby Farne Islands. Better still, is the sight of Bamburgh Castle, a stunning backdrop for the duration of the walk.

WARKWORTH
This magnificent Northumberland fortress crowns the hilltop above the River Coquet. From the almost intact 600-year old keep to the lavish gold-patterned leather-lined walls of the Dukes Room there’s plenty to keep you occupied, if you’ll excuse the pun.

Walk half a mile up river to find the Hermitage, a religious building carved out of the rock, and return by boat to the castle. The castle and hermitage are closed for part of the year; please check their website for details.

With large arched windows, original stonework and exposed beams, we have three elegant bedrooms in our restored Coach House, each with its own luxurious bathroom. THE GEORGE RUNCIMAN RESTAURANT 
Like the master joiner from whom it takes its name, the George Runciman Restaurant is far from ordinary. With 2 AA rosettes awarded for the highest standards in cuisine and service, this is more than just another hotel restaurant. It’s a venue to savour dishes that are highly imaginative, beautifully presented and crafted using only the best seasonal produce from the local area.

BARTER BOOKS
No visit to Alnwick is complete without a stop at Barter Books. Housed within the town’s old Victorian railway station, it contains one of the biggest collections of antiquarian books in the UK and you could quite literally spend half a day wandering the premises. With real fires in the winter, a model railway, station buffet and a children’s room Barter Books is must-see attraction – not just for bookworms.

CRAGSIDE ESTATE
Originally the family home of Lord Armstrong, Victorian inventor and industrialist, Cragside was the first building in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity. Now in the care of the National Trust the Cragside Estate is a truly unique visitor attraction for all ages.

THE SURROUNDING AREA OF NORTHUMBERLAND
In terms of location, Le Petit Château benefits from being on the doorstep of peaceful countryside, while equally not being too far off the beaten track. Located in the Northumbrian village of Otterburn, Le Petit Chateau lies on the picturesque banks of the River Rede which is well known for trout and salmon fishing.

If you fancy exploring the surrounding countryside, a favourite of walkers and equestrians is the 2-mile, gently sloping Otterburn Village Trail, which starts and finishes at the nearby Otterburn Mill.
