DISCOVER FAVIGNANA
The staff of HTM welcomes you to the Island of Favignana. Crystal clear water, sea beds very rich for those who love snorkelling, beaches of white clear sand, and natural solarium forged by the sea. The pure white walls made of tufo render the limpid sea of Favignana a real natural swimming pool.

When we opened our hotel in this island we knew we had chosen an enchanting place, and more and more people during the years have discovered or re-discovered the beauty of the biggest island of the Egadi.

Favignana is a place where time seems to have stopped. The ancient buildings show it, with the scent of the splendor of the past era of Florio, the old establishment of the Tonnara which is an extraordinary exemple of industrial architecture, where until few years ago had place the processing for conservation of tuna fish.

EXCURSIONS TO MARETTIMO AND LEVANZO
From the port of Favignana leave daily boats to visit the other two islands of the Egadi. Marettimo and Levanzo will satisfy your need of sun and sea, in the company of the picturesque local guides, who will entertain you with the stories of the Romans, Carthaginians and Phoenicians, those population that loved so much Favignana, like us all, to the point of fighting to possess it.

Today, thanks to those populations, we can appreciate Favignana in the best way we could, from its beautiful sea. The reception staff will be delighted to give you all the information you need.

THE COUNTRY
The little town centre is a jewel in Arabic style. The houses with terrace reachable by external stairs and the spacious internal spaces are the heritage of the Arabic domination that has left its mark in Sicily, in the architecture as in the flavours of our typical dishes.

The streets are mainly narrow and sinuous to protect themselves from the sea wind that blows gently and persistently. The Florio Palace is an example of liberty architecture: it was home to the unfortunate Florio family in the early ‘900, today home to the maritime museum.

HISTORY
The first settlements go back to 10.000 B.C.: traces of human presence were found in the caves in the areas of San Nicola and the Faraglione. Around the VIII century the Phoenicians settled in the area of San Nicola; later on Favignana has been the spot of a naval war between the Romans and the Carthaginians, with the predomination of Romans.

Then followed barbarian invasions, and the Saracens that had built the first watch towers, converted in a fortress by Ruggero II, the Norman king. After that, was the time of the Angevins and of the Aragoneses until it came the time of C. Pallavicino, who brought the development of fishing and farming to levels higher than ever.

VISIT “FLORIO” EX-FACTORY IN FAVIGNANA
Favignana is known as one of the most beautiful islands in Europe thanks to its natural beauty. If you are spending your holidays on the island though, between a day at Cala Rossa and an aperitif, we recommend you find the time for one of the most important examples of industrial archeology in Sicily visiting the museum created within the former Florio tuna factory in Favignana.

This complex was the most important and modern industrial plant of the Mediterranean for tuna processing between the second half of the 19th century and early 1900s, and one of the beating hearts of the Florio family’s industrial empire.

After the restoration works carried out between 2000 and 2006, the “Stabilimento” welcomes today dozens of visitors on a daily basis, with guided tours to the discovery of the building itself, of the fishing technique and history and of the tuna processing process.

The museum also houses the archaeological collection of the Aegadian islands: here have been gathered the remains of Carthaginian and Roman ships sunk in the Battle of Levanzo on March 10, 241 BC. Absolutely evocative is the Turin Hall, where a suggestive installation will allow you to listen to the voices of 18 players of the era of the plant gold.
