The Little Nell Aspen

The lot on which The Little Nell sits today has had quite a history over the past several hundred years. Summer hunting ground of the Ute Indians. Miners’ retreat. Railroad stop and depot. Grazing pasture for the Aspen Dairy. Ski lift. Skiers’ watering hole. In 1989, history was made again as Aspen’s only Five-Star, Five-Diamond hotel rose to prominence on the site.

Named after a mining claim originally located not far uphill from where the hotel sits today, it wasn’t long before the hotel began attracting a diverse international clientele, including celebrities, dignitaries, Fortune 500 magnates and political leaders. In celebration of its 20th anniversary, The Little Nell underwent a major renovation of its guest rooms and suites at the hands of renowned interior designer, Holly Hunt.

LOCATION
As Aspen’s only Five-Star, Five-Diamond hotel, we’re exactly where you’d expect us to be — in the heart of downtown and just steps from the Silver Queen Gondola. However you choose to get here, we look forward to your arrival.

ACCOMMODATIONS
Look no further for the perfect Aspen luxury accommodations. The Little Nell is Aspen’s only Five-Star, Five-Diamond, ski-in/ski-out hotel and features 92 rooms with a blend of room types to accommodate your Aspen lodging preferences and needs.

RENOVATIONS & DESIGN
In the spring of 2017, all hotel rooms and junior suites were renovated by Champalimaud Design. The New York-based luxury design firm refreshed the spaces, utilizing palettes of blue, tan and grey to complement the relaxed nature of Aspen.

They were also designed to blend seamlessly with our six luxury suites, which were renovated in 2014 by Holly Hunt of Chicago with an “Aspen Modern” style calling for plush, textured fabrics and palettes of cream, blue and chocolate.

It is these renovations and carefully curated details that make accommodations at The Little Nell stand out from all other Aspen hotel rooms. All hotel accommodations feature a unique floor plan and gas log fireplaces, and most have private balconies.

Looking for a room with a view? That’s included at The Little Nell. All accommodations overlook Aspen Mountain, Red Mountain, the Continental Divide, Durant and Spring streets, or the hotel’s courtyard and pool.

THE RESIDENCES
Ski-in-ski out. Five-Star, Five-Diamond, Little Nell service. The Silver Queen Gondola and Ajax Patio at your front door. You can’t get much closer to the center of the Aspen life. Residences at The Little Nell are privately owned, but available by the week or the month – guest rooms 450-850 square feet, apartments 1,700-4,000.

ROOFTOP POOL

This elevated space was designed with curving stone walls and multiple seating areas, providing both privacy and a spectacular space to socialize. Soak up the views and holiday fireworks with access to Aspen’s most sought-after pool and hot tub.

LUXURY SUITES
Our six Luxury Suites in Aspen are named after powerful personalities who helped to create the Aspen legend. Each suite has been recently renovated in the “Aspen Modern” style – a little bit comfortable chic, a little bit private art collection.

The custom-designed furniture, wall coverings and fabrics use organic materials in natural hues creating a calm warmth. The panoramic windows of each luxury hotel suite have blackout shades, and private balconies give up rare views of Aspen Mountain and its gorgeous surroundings. This is an Aspen not many people see.

THE LITTLE NELL SUITE
The Little Nell is our signature suite. It’s named after a silver mine in the first days of Aspen, which itself was named for a certain lady of the night who had stolen the miner’s heart. It has wall-to-wall windows, and two wrap-around balconies with fabulous views of Aspen Mountain.

Inside, there is curated art throughout the 1450 square foot space – notably an acrylic-on-canvas by Scott Reeder, a custom bookcase with hand-picked pieces from all over the world, and an installation by Little Nell owner and artist Paula Crown.

Here you can live and entertain in style. The one-bedroom suite connects to adjacent rooms and can be configured for two or three bedrooms. There’s a fully equipped work space. And the expansive open living area includes a sunlit dining space with a table for six, a wet bar with seating for entertaining, and a powder room. Little Nell would be proud. And frankly, speechless.

Depending on the tour, you may also traverse butterfly-inducing ridge lines, along the shore of crystal blue lakes. All tours offer snacks or boxed lunch selections from our premier restaurant, Element 47. Come one, come all, as Summer Adventures with The Little Nell are open to the public.

FALL COLORS
Each fall, temperatures drop, chlorophyll levels shrink and leaf peepers rejoice. Seemingly overnight, Aspen is awash in color as leaves take on glorious new hues. Leaf it to us to make sure you experience them all in the most luxurious way possible.

Anglers will love our option of seeing the foliage on a two-hour helicopter flight to a private fly fishing ranch. For those preferring to view the colors from the ground, we offer Off-Road Tours up Aspen Mountain until reaching the 11,212 foot summit.

Then, get your feet wet with a Walk and Wade fly fishing trip on the Roaring Fork river. And finally, we encourage you to take in the fall colors from the driver’s seat of one of the hotel’s fleet of Audis as you summit Independence Pass.

SIGHTS & CULTURE
Nowhere else but in Aspen does haute couture & haute cuisine mix so casually with bearded bro-bras and Colorado microbrews. Aspen is a world community at the crossroads of wild mountain and electric city.

It’s a place where you can learn about local mining history in the morning and view internationally-recognized art in the afternoon. Where picking up a new hobby and exploring your creativity are one and the same.

And where majestic mountain scenery can mean anything from glorious peaks and natural wildlife to beautiful people and larger-than-life characters. Aspen is a gathering place for the brave and the bright. Welcome.

The most photographed peaks in North America are right here in our backyard. Surrounded by pristine National Forest, the Maroon Bells rise 14,000 feet above the glacial valley floor. Maroon Lake, encircled by fields of wildflowers, perfectly mirrors the Maroon Bells in its waters.

ASPEN ART AT THE NELL
Explore the hotel and you’ll find original abstract works of art by internationally recognized painters, sculptors and photographers. Our main restaurant, element 47, was designed to include an important collection of contemporary Aspen art, in addition to other global artwork, as integral to the fine dining experience.

And in many of our Holly Hunt-designed suites, original Aspen artworks play a central role in defining each room’s mood. In June of 2018, artist Paula Crown unveiled her sculpture, entitled Jokester, as part of her SOLO TOGETHER series of work.

Through this piece, which is on display for the summer of 2018 on the Upper Gondola Plaza across from Ajax Tavern, Crown is challenging viewers to reevaluate the impacts of throwaway consumerism. It represents the most recent project in Aspen Skiing Company’s Art in Unexpected Places, a program that has placed art on our mountains, hotels, and lift tickets since 2005.

Photos from Crown’s SOLO TOGETHER installation currently feature as Aspen Snowmass’s lift ticket art. To support the sustainability message of the SOLO TOGETHER project, Aspen Skiing Company and The Little Nell have eliminated the use of plastic straws and now provide biodegradable straws only upon request.
