Sak Yant Tattoo Studio

The Siam has integrated an ancient Thai tradition with the opening of a specially consecrated space devoted to the inking of sacred tattoos.

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
Beautiful palaces, sacred temples, exotic local markets and fascinating monuments. Whilst at The Siam, the only luxury hotel located in Bangkok’s historical Dusit district, don’t miss your chance for a new experience in old Bangkok.

BANGKOK’S CLASSIC ATTRACTIONS

Explore the city’s famed cultural landmarks and historical attractions via a private boat/walking journey. In addition to the classic sights, catch a glimpse of an urban monk’s living quarters, exotic local markets, and the famous canal system of Thonburi.

Areas and Landmarks: PhraNakorn area of Rattanakosin Island, Bangkok Noi and Bang Luang Canals. The Grand Palace, Flower Markets, Wat Pho , Golden Mount and more. National Museum and the stunning Buddhaisawan Hall.

Longtail boats and tuk-tuks will support our walking journey through Bangkok’s venerable gems, The Grand Palace and Wat Pho, but also allow us quieter access to a modern day monk’s quarters, fresh markets, and the visually exciting canals of the old city.

Early mornings are the best time to start, enabling opportunities for a climb to the top of the Golden Mount, a tuk-tuk cruise around the impressive boulevards of the royal district, and a methodical exploration of the National Museum.

This is the finest art collection in Thailand, featuring treasured royal art and classical Thai mural art.

BANGKOK AT NIGHT

Why do this in the evening? Bangkok’s principal landmarks and lesser-visited edifices are illuminated in their glory after dark. This is a quieter, more meticulousdiscovery of the city’s gems in the relative cool of the evening, uncovering 200 years of architecture to understand The City of Angels.

We’ll trace grand European-style boulevards such as RachadamnernNok Avenue, site of the imposing Rama V equestrian statue, as well as classical Chakri temple architecture at Wat Benchamabophit (Marble Temple). These are far more compelling when the crowds and traffic have reduced.

Follow the royal mile from Dusit into the heart of Rattanakosin, with intimate visits to the City Pillar, a tuk-tuk journey from Democracy Monument through to Wat Pho and the spires of the Grand Palace and the vernacular architecture of the Giant Swing, Wat Suthat, and the city’s principal Brahmin and Hindu Shrines.

It is The City of Angels to be sure, and this journey focuses on quieter landmarks – some viewed from the outside, and a choice of local dining venues within the proximity of these illuminated gems.

BANGKOK’S CHINATOWN

The Chinese legacy of Bangkok’s origins cannot be understated. As one of the original cornerstones of the city, early Chinese merchants enabled Bangkok commerce to thrive and turned the city into one of the great trading centers of Asia.

Bangkok now boasts a population of more than one million Chinese and has one of the most colourful Chinatowns on the planet. Fast, frenzied and eclectic, a ramble through Yaowarat is a cacophony for the senses.

Explore narrow lanes, fresh markets, religious landmarks and textile booths. Enhance the journey by sampling street snacks while gaining candid impressions of the cultural mosaic that is Bangkok.

Your host will take you to Chinatown via the Siam’s scheduled shuttle boat on a roughly 4-hour outing at a time of your choosing.

SPIRITUAL BANGKOK: TALISMANS, TATTOOS & RELIGION

Take a mini city tour of the spiritual and mystic side of Bangkok, with a focus on religious shrines, spiritual art and local worship ceremonies. Areas include: Amulet Markets, Giant Swing, Wat Suthat, BangLuang Mosque.

One can learn a great deal about Thailand, its belief system, and the life of everyday Thais by looking beneath the surface of the city, in the spirit shrines, amulet markets, tattoo houses, and other symbols that connect the people and their faiths.

From Chinese shrines to Brahmin deities, picturesque mosques and talismans galore, multi-faith Thailand offers fascinating windows into the diverse beliefs of the people.

THA KLA & AMPHAWA FLOATING MARKETS

This is a full-day excursion that explores a Thailand of the past while experiencing present day river life. We’ll drive one-and-a-half hours southeast of Bangkok to visit ThaKha Floating Market, one of the last authentic local floating markets near Bangkok not over-run with tourists.

This area around SamutSongkhram is important historically for the final battles with the Burmese and for the early influential European trading routes. By both boat and our private van, we’ll visit several important sites and learn more about these historic events.

We’ll continue on to Amphawa where we’ll stop for lunch in a charming local restaurant and then browse the Amphawa Market during the early afternoon when it’s at its peak trade.

On the way back to Bangkok, we have the option of stopping at the Maeklong Railway Market, nicknamed the “umbrella pulldown market”. It is one of the largest fresh seafood markets in Thailand, and is centred on the Maeklong Railway tracks.

Whenever a train approaches, the awnings and shop fronts are moved (marginally) back from the rails, and replaced once the train has passed.

CYCLING BANGKOK’S HIDDEN PATHS

Hop on a bike and discover another side of Bangkok that you probably didn’t expect to find. Today we’ll head across the mighty Chao Phraya River to get a closer look at life beyond the skyscrapers in Bangkok’s Thonburi area.

We’ll discover Ayutthaya-era temples, explore small canals, lush jungles, stop at local floating markets and visit sleepy communities where we’ll get face to face with local life.

Flexible touring allows distance, activity level and focus to match your desires. This is a perfect day for those who want some light activity and are in search of hidden secrets away from the crowds.

ANCIENT AYUTTHAYA

The ancient Siamese capital of Ayutthaya was the crowning glory of the kingdom from 1350-1767. Preserved in history, Ayutthaya remains a magnificent site to visit during your stay.

We’ll use Mary Poppins-style bicycles to explore the most important sites. After lunch we’ll enjoy a longtail boat ride around this ancient district, and fill you in on all the historical facts. This intimate exploration of Ayutthaya gives you a genuine appreciation for the city’s significance to the Thai people.

Note: There is a dress code recommendation for Buddhist sites in Ayutthaya of shirts that cover shoulders, and shorts/skirts that cover the knees. No beach sandals, but sport sandals with straps around the heel are okay.

LIQUID BANGKOK

Walk and boat through Bangkok’s vintage communities, away from the touring masses, into the fiber of the city. Several longtail boat stop-offs take us through Thonburi, Thailand’s capital between the Ayutthaya and Bangkok periods, visiting old artisan villages, markets and art communities.

BANGKOK BAHT

This half-day adventure discovers the stunning landmarks featured on the Thai coins in your pocket. We’ll leave the hotel’s pier by shuttle boat and head downriver past the ever-photogenic Wat Arun (10 Baht coin) before disembarking on Rattanakosin Island, Bangkok’s historical old moated city.

By foot and by tuk tuk, we’ll visit Wat Phrakaew at the Grand Palace (1 Baht coin) and the nearby Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho, then Wat Saket atop the Golden Mount (2 Baht coin) or Wat Benchamabophit, the Marble Temple (5 Baht coin) before Tuk Tuk’ing back to the hotel.
