The Temple House celebrates Chengdu’s history and looks towards the future through inspired modern design and art.

Our House is hidden amongst the laneways of Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu and set on former temple grounds, with 100 intimate rooms and 42 serviced apartments, heritage courtyards, landscaped terraces and a subterranean oasis. It’s an urban sanctuary that surprises and delights around every corner.

The Temple House is a celebration of historic architecture and contemporary design. Its brick façade is inspired by Chengdu’s brocade weaving traditions.

The courtyard’s landscaped light wells echo Sichuan’s sloped rice terraces. An ever-evolving art collection complements the space, invoking local stories, beliefs and mythologies to give you a taste of the city’s culture.

Internationally-acclaimed Make Architects wanted to create a sense of place and uniqueness at The Temple House. They took inspiration from the architecture, history, traditions and landscape of Chengdu and embraced a typical ‘siheyuan’ or ‘courtyard house’ design.

The result? An ultra-modern aesthetic within the historic architecture of the Qing Dynasty heritage building for stunning interiors and exteriors.

Creative, passionate and full of character – our people bring unique perspectives, ideas and personalities to The Temple House. We are art-lovers, foodies, yoga devotees, enthusiastic travellers and budding fashionistas. Embracing our differences, we celebrate every individual that helps bring our House to life.

Our art programme ‘Encounters Across Cultures’ deep dives into the relationship between our Houses, their cultural context and global influences. The fresh, experiential series is constantly evolving and intended to inspire, intrigue and broaden the accessibility of art.

Sustainability starts with our people. Each and every one of us goes to extraordinary lengths to minimise our carbon footprint while crafting more eco-friendly experiences for you.

Sustainable seasonal celebrations are a tradition at The Temple House. Every Christmas, we incorporate recycled materials as whimsical and thought-provoking festive decorations for our community-driven tree-lighting ceremony.

We’ve featured upcycled bottles from Tivano and Jing, used tea candle shells from Daci Temple and repurposed wooden floorboards from our House.

We have reduced and removed single-use plastics from our House – replacing all straws, hampers, room amenity wrappers and toothbrushes with products made from biodegradable materials.

In our rooms, plastic water bottles have been replaced with glass and reusable cloth bags are now provided. Every small change helps us achieve our goal of reducing our carbon footprint. With an emphasis on reducing waste products, our kitchens and spa find ways to reuse and recycle.

Freshly ground coffee grinds from our café are used to infuse our massage oils, and our foot scrubs are made from natural materials from our garden or kitchen using natural sugar or Himalayan rose salt instead of micro beads.

We have also installed an ORCA kitchen waste processor to drastically cut down on the waste we produce.

PENTHOUSE
Perched on the 11th and 12th floor, our Penthouse is a peaceful sanctuary floating high above the city. This expansive suite honours Chengdu’s heritage while adding luxe modern touches. Its minimalist design blends light, dark and neutral tones.

A double-sided fireplace in the living area and private library create quiet places to rest and reflect while the private terrace with its outdoor jacuzzi has space for yoga and meditation.

PREMIER RESIDENCE
Designed using beautiful timber, stone and bamboo, our Premier Residence has two large contemporary bedrooms.

This 153-square-metre apartment offers stunning city views and there’s space to live, work and entertain in its open-plan layout. Our Guest Experience team are on hand to provide 24-hour service and tailor the space to your needs.

CUISINES ACROSS CULTURES
Bold and flavourful with a Sichuan twist, our restaurants and bars at The Temple House bring an intriguing medley of authentic Italian, Vietnamese and regional influences to Chengdu’s famously fiery dining scene.

TEMPLE CAFE
A buzzy all-day bistro serving up seasonal dishes. The setting’s casual-chic and our cross-cultural menu offers local and international influences over breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as afternoon tea.

Pair fresh dishes using herbs and vegetables from the House garden with a selection of handpicked wines, cocktails and teas. Our grab-and-go counter offers house-made pastries, sandwiches, coffee and juices for busy bees and on-the-go travellers.

TIVANO
Warm service and traditional dishes that pay homage to Italy’s great tomatoes, truffles, meats and olive oils – that’s what Tivano is about. Seasonal ingredients, house-made pastas and authentic wood-fired grilling take centre stage on the menu of refined, modern Italian fare.

The terrace has breezy garden vibes with a rustic vine-covered cabana. Inside, the art-deco inspired restaurant has a magnificent wood-fired pizza oven as the dramatic centrepiece. Glittering wine walls showcase a generously stocked cellar of Italian and international vintages to pair with your meal.

JING
Inspired by the heady glitz of the Jazz Age, Jing is a speakeasy and drinking den. It exudes the retro-glamour of the 1920s prohibition era, with amber and gold accents, exposed brick and dark wood.

Creative cocktails are king here. Glass cabinets heave with spirits behind the bar where talented mixologists blend exotic ingredients and craft inventive libations. Pick your poison – try a Sichuan Negroni to savour the spicy kick as you lounge on leather chairs and enjoy the pulse of live DJs spinning tracks.

MI XUN TEAHOUSE
Mi Xun Teahouse serves fine Chinese teas and plant-based regional Sichuan cuisine in a traditional Qing Dynasty home and tranquil courtyard. Its menu is inspired by the nourishing dishes once served at the thousand-year old Daci Monastery nearby.

Reflecting the storied tea culture of Chengdu, our Teahouse offers 44 different types of tea. Sip them alongside fragrant vegetarian specialities such as Mapo Tofu and vegan Dan Dan Noodles that use locally sourced ingredients and herbs grown in the House garden.

An atmospheric blend of immaculately restored historic buildings and modern designer spaces makes The Temple House an intriguing and beautiful events venue in the centre of Chengdu.

Bitiege – An intimate and historic setting
Steeped in centuries of learning and Chinese culture, Bitiege is a restored Qing Dynasty house. There’s three intimate meeting suites, an airy library of over 2,000 handpicked English and Chinese books and an art gallery with diverse works from China and the world.

The meeting suites overlook a leafy courtyard and are ideal for small gatherings, lectures and discussions.

Temple Top – Leafy open-air terrace
Hidden within the inner courtyard of our House, Temple Top is an elevated open-air terrace. It offers a contemplative spot for a yoga session or lush setting for a lively cocktail party. This secret garden looks out over our House with views that pair perfectly with specially curated menus from our chefs.
