Sporty, alpine lifestyle meets casual luxury. Our 4-star-superior hotel in the internationally renowned ski resort of Lech is THE place to be for a luxury winter break. Located in the heart of the Arlberg region on a quiet, sunny hill right above the village of Lech, the Plattenhof promises pure relaxation.

The combination of mountain air and our high quality boxspring beds systems ensure a deep restorative sleep. The fact that after a wonderful day of skiing you can swing right in front of the hotel is just one of many other plus points.

From our tastefully renovated rooms with lots of wood elements you have a view of the mighty Omeshorn mountain and marvel at the slopes of the famous ski area.

Immerse yourself in the “cradle of skiing” with your partner, children, family or friends and and reminisce the events of the day together with an excellent gourmet dinner. If you stroll through the snow-covered landscape, you will notice that it is truly a winter “like it was back then”.

The prime address for a sophisticated winter holiday in Austria? Without any doubt the Arlberg. The typical alpine atmosphere combined with heartfelt hospitality make this “village in the snow” an extraordinary experience.

At Plattenhof, our 4-Stars-Superior-Hotel in Lech, we live these characteristics and strive with attentive service, alpine ambience and multiple choices of ski and winter activities. Relish in the mix of outings in pristine clear air, relaxation in our generous wellness area and delicious and freshly prepared gourmet meals from our chefs.

Whether you travel by yourself, with friends, a life partner or your family: the Schneider family and the Plattenhof team are looking forward to your visit and will make every effort to create long-lasting memories.

Located a few minutes from the main slopes in the ski resort, quiet and sun-drenched on a hill above the town center, the Plattenhof enables you to have a carefree time. You do not need to travel long distances and you will find everything from ski rentals to ski schools in close proximity.

It is a three-minute walk to the Hinterwieslift behind the hotel, which is located in the main ski area. Alternatively, you can take the local bus at no cost at the bus stop right in front of the hotel. Last but not least, you can enjoy “ski-out” with us: That means, one of the ski slopes leads directly to the Plattenhof – it couldn’t be more convenient.

THE HISTORY
The village of Lech was founded in the 13th or 14th century. Nowadays the origins are not known anymore exactly. In those times only a few people even knew the community “Tannberg am Lech”, which it was called then simply because the first settlers found a fir forest there on the river Lech.

Rudolf Schneider, the ancestor of the Plattenhof builder, was born in the 15th century. Long before the “cradle of skiing” became what it is today. Time passed on and the original Schneider family used it to get to know every corner of the Arlberg region.

Knowing about the finest locations in Lech would finally pay off in 1965, when Rudolf and Karin Schneider decided to build a bed and breakfast with 25 beds in this location.

The Plattenhof was built on the sunniest hill above the village of Lech, at that time still a little-known winter sports pearl. There Rudolf and his father Josef had previously bought the property on which the “Sonnenplatte” is located, with all of his savings – hence the name “Plattenhof”.

1965 was the year the first guests were welcomed at the B&B in Lech. The continuous development of the ski-resort and the increasing number of visitors let us grow our offers.

We now manage our Plattenhof as a 4-Stars-Superior-Hotel and are members of “Deluxe-Hotels Arlberg“. Since its inception the hotel has been owned by the same family. That is why tradition is very important to us and part of our mission and philosophy.

The roots of our family are deeply connected to the region and are always present. Hence you will find in our well-appointed rooms influences of ancient handicraft which shape the ambience and give authentic charme.

The hallways and stair wells are filled with antique closets and chests and numerous precious items from past times. The personal touch with our guests has always been our heartfelt concern.

In 1965 Rudi and Karin Schneider lay the groundwork for their Hotel Plattenhof in one of the best places in Lech. Since then the hotel has been continously developed into a 4-Stars-Superior-Hotel on the sunny side of Lech, to become one of the most sought-after holiday locations in the area.

The hotel is now being managed in the second generation of the Schneider Family and continually improved. What stays is the extraordinary location in Lech: here you still get the most hours of sunshine during your holiday in Lech. Yet being on a hill above town signifies quiet and less traffic.

WINTER ACTIVITIES FON RNO SKIERS
Anyone arriving in Lech is immediately confronted with a picture-book winter wonderland. A lush blanket of snow over the landscape. Crunching under the snow boots. Cold air that makes your breath visible. Plus, Plattenhof is located above the fog line so you get extra sun!

As the day draws to a close, the Walser village is transformed into a small sea of lights amidst the expansive white film backdrop. This landscape not only looks magnificent, it also invites you to all kinds of activities in nature.

From dreamy winter hikes and tobogganing to motivating tracks on the cross-country ski trail or a romantic horse-drawn carriage ride. A family and generation holiday or a precious time-out with your life partner in Lech am Arlberg is also varied and fulfilling off the slopes.

Not least because of the above-average number of hours of sunshine in winter. Here, at Plattenhof, moments are created that make a lasting impression.

SNOWSHOE HIKING
A hike with snowshoes is one of the easiest and at the same time most fulfilling winter activities. You “float” on the untouched deep snow without sinking in, and feel how your head becomes completely free in the clear air.

The key to an impressive winter experience for the whole family and also for several generations, especially as no previous knowledge or training is necessary. Uncomplicated at all levels: You can easily rent the right snowshoes at a sports shop in Lech, such as our official partner shop Sportalp Lech.

Glistening snow cover, airy powder snow, soothing silence and picturesque solitude: a snowshoe hike near the Plattenhof offers the beautiful and healthy combination of being out and about in the fresh winter air and engaging in gentle sport at the same time.

The large-area foot pads allow you not only to stay on conventional winter paths, but also to venture into deep snow without any problems and even to aim for snow-covered peaks. No wonder this winter mode of transport is becoming increasingly popular.

Did you know that more than 10,000 years ago, hunters and gatherers in snowy regions like the Alps were already making snowshoes? In order to prevent sinking in with the enlarged tread surface, they made fur and leather constructions as well as woven woodworks.

CROSS-COUNTRY HOLIDAY
Breathe in the clear winter air. Breathing and movement in rhythmic harmony. Cross-country skiing is a special kind of nature experience. It activates body and mind in a positive and persistant way.

This sport is rightly celebrating a comeback: More and more health-conscious people are devoting themselves to the Nordic fitness sport, which burns calories and enriches the soul.

And especially in times of pandemic, when we spend an above-average amount of time indoors, this moving fresh-air cure, which incidentally strengthens the immune system, is particularly good for us.

TOBOGGANING, ICE SKATING & MUCH MORE
Unique winter experiences are created in the winter wonderland of Lech-Zürs with a horse-drawn carriage ride, at the natural ice skating rink, on toboggan runs and yes, even in the air – paragliding. Winter holidays in Lech are all about authentic moments. And there are countless of them. Discover the diversity of winter holidays on the Arlberg.

You’re never too old for sledging. From toddlers to grandfathers, everyone can take part in this most primal of snow pleasures – or who doesn’t associate their first memories and contact with snow with a toboggan?

On the hill in front of Plattenhof, you can pull the sledge up with your little ones and whizz down. It could hardly be more practical. Oberlech is known as the sun terrace of the Arlberg. The car-free village can only be reached by ski or via the cable car.

The view of our local mountain, the Omeshorn, as well as the surrounding panorama invite you to go winter hiking. For example, walk to the Tannegg viewing platform and enjoy the grandiose mountain panorama!

On the natural ice skating rink in Zürs, you skate your laps to lively music and eventually arrive at the punch stand with red cheeks. A fun winter activity for the family.

There is an indoor ice skating rink in Lech which does not bother with inclement weather. At Jagdhaus Monzabon – the only hotel-owned indoor ice skating rink in Europe – you can glide over the ice in a lovely ambience and try out your pirouettes, or meet for some curling.

On a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the silent “big white”, you truly forget about time. A warm blanket, perhaps a fine tea in the thermos flask and the willingness to enjoy a decelerating nature experience – that’s all it takes.

The Lech river gurgles merrily away in the immediate vicinity while you enjoy the enchanting panorama from your “box seat”. The pleasure is also a highlight at night, when the illuminated houses sparkle in the landscape and the stars in the clear sky are your constant companions.

PARAGLIDING
Take off and experience the freedom immediately after start, without restrictions and engine noise, floating freely, only connected to the wing by a few lines, feel the movements and forces of the atmosphere in the midst of our beautiful landscape.

For a short time forget everyday life to be completely with yourself. An experience that can only be felt when flying. For us, this is the special attraction of flying a paraglider. Join us and experience it for yourself. Tandem-flights are generally possibile throughout the season, depending on weather conditions.

MUSEUMS & EXHIBITIONS
For those interested in culture and history, a trip to the museums in the region is worthwhile. Attractively prepared and excitingly staged, the traditional history of the Arlberg becomes tangible. Once again, a rewarding joint activity for young and old.
