Hotel Ollastu Costa Corallina

The Hotel Ollastu is located within the residential area of the Costa Corallina, a coastline of particular beauty between Porto San Paolo and Porto Istana, whose bay is part of the Marine Protected Area of Tavolara and Molara. Located on a promontory facing the sea, the Hotel offers one of the best views of the island of Tavolara and allows to easily access the nearby beaches on foot or through the free shuttle service.

The Hotel consists of a main building where main services are set – reception, breakfast room, TV room, restaurant and bar – and of a wide area of flowery gardens and lawns inside which all rooms are located in separate groups.

Outdoor common areas are instead the main pool garden with panoramic view of Tavolara island, overlooked by the Pool Bar, and the Jacuzzi area inside the event garden, together with the solarium, fitness corner and various facilities.

THE HISTORY
For over twenty years the Grillotti family has lived in this little piece of paradise that is the Costa Corallina, in love with its peace, scents and sea. With passion and dedication the owners Carlo and Fulvia made this place their own, by slowly in time changing the first existing structure into the impressive and comfortable Hotel Ollastu, that owes its name to the big centenarian olive tree located opposite the main entrance.

This strong initial mark is today supplemented by the work of the new generation, who contributes to the management of the family-run Hotel. Always according to the philosophical line that pursues the excellence of service in every sector, they expand the offer of services through the development of new business project, like for example the reopening of the historic restaurant La Corona, located on the island of Tavolara.

The daughter Tamara and the sons Edoardo and Matteo Grillotti personally take care of the various aspects related to the reception, restaurant and administration, also contributing in the areas of web and marketing. The strength of the Ollastu lies exactly in its family heart, the people and relationships that connect it and make it a synonym of warmth and quality of service.

Recently built, the Junior Suite comes with a heated, hydro-massage infinity jacuzzi pool, which has fantastic panoramic views over the Tavolara archipelago.

They also have a magnificent panoramic view thanks to their raised position. They also have a little porch with a small garden and sunbeds.

Ideal if you want a bright and spacious room. This type of room provides more space for even greater comfort. These rooms are also equipped with independent entrance, external terrace air conditioning, satellite TV, safe box and hair dryer. The interior design is the same as the standard rooms.

LA CORONA RESTAURANT
An historical venue located on Tavolara island, La Corona Restaurant & Lounge Bar has a unique position in front of the main beach of the island, thus representing a must-go stop for all visitors of the Protected Marine Area of Tavolara and Molara.

The restaurant’s kitchen proposed delicious Mediterranean specialties based on the fresh fishes available, such as the various compositions of raw seafoods, the catalan salads of red prawns and local spiny lobster, linguine with crab ragout, paccheri with seafood sauce, frying of small squids and fish soups, along with the freshly caught fishes of the day.

An high standard of quality is featured not just in the culinary value, but also in the attentive service, that makes this venue perfect also for private and exclusive events. To reach the island and the Restaurant the Ollastu Hotel arranges daily transfers at lunchtime and for dinner. Open every day for lunch from May to October, from June on also for dinner. Reservation required.

BREAKFAST
From 7.15 to 11.15 the Buffet is open to all Hotel guests, with a wide variety of rigorously homemade cakes, bread, cheeses and salads, along with many meat and egg dishes to satisfy the most varied tastes and start the day with pleasure and quality.

POOL BAR
For a cocktail by the pool or a nice cup of homemade ice cream and fresh fruit, an aperitif at sunset or a fresh salad at lunch, the Bar by the pool offers a continuous service throughout the day. Between 12.00 and 15.00 there is also a restaurant service, with warm first courses, grilled meat and fish served directly by the pool.

HOMEMADE PASTRY LAB
The passion for quality has brought us in years to develop an efficient structure to support the production of fresh pastries, being aware that the making of a good dessert sometimes is wrongly thought of as a trivial task, while it is to be considered instead a fundamental complement to all fine dining.

Our pastry lab has thus specialized through the years in different branches, and not only supplies the breakfast buffet and the Restaurant of cakes and desserts, but is in charge also of all fresh bread and ice-cream making, and of special cakes and mignons ordered on request.

All the bread served daily at the Restaurant, loafs, focaccia, grissini, cookies, brioche bread and all cakes and pastries served daily for breakfast are baked every day using only fresh and natural ingredients, to offer our customers the most authentic flavour and a genuine and light cuisine.

All ice-creams and fruit sorbets served in the Hotel are also from our homemade production. We make them with just fresh milk, eggs, fresh cream and natural ingredients of the highest quality (Bronte pistachios, dark Amedei chocolate, hazelnut from Piedmont, Bourbon vanilla pods, seasonal fresh fruits): an ice cream for ice cream lovers, without colorings or artificial flavors, just like once in the best ice cream parlours.

For ceremonies and events arranged in our Hotel our pastry chefs are specialized in the making of fantastic cakes, both in a traditional or modern fashion, that can be realized on project or according to custom design, and in spectacular dessert buffets. The attention to details is our priority and is reflected in every choice: from selection of ingredients and combinations, to the art of plating, that has to satisfy both taste and eye.

BEACH BAR & BISTROT
Open daily for lunch during the summer season, the “Chioschetto” offers a bar service and a small Restaurant service at the equipped beach of the Hotel. In addition to many refreshing drinks and a great variety of snacks, sandwiches and salads, it is possible to have lunch directly on the beach, enjoying some of the best seafood specialties, from the classic octopus and potato salad to spaghetti with clams or fried crispy calamari.

LA PIZZICHINA EQUIPPED BEACH
Sardinia is another thing, lovely space about one and travelling distances, nothing finished, nothing final, it is like liberty itself…” DH Lawrence (Sea and Sardinia). At about 400 m from the main building, next to the small port of Costa Corallina, there is the equipped beach of the Hotel “La Pizzichina”, reachable on foot or through the free shuttle service available all day long.

Beach umbrellas and sun beds can be booked directly at the Reception of the Hotel at a daily rate or for the whole duration of the stay, whereas the hire of canoes is free of charge for guests of the Hotel. Furthermore, on the beach there is the small bar “Il Chioschetto” that offers a small Restaurant service during lunch time and by reservation organizes tasty aperitifs and private dinners.

FREE BEACHES 
Within the bay of Costa Corallina there are many beaches and coves, whose diversity by type and size contributes to enrich the beauty of the landscape of this small coastline. Both next to the equipped beach “La Pizzichina” and on the opposite side of the small port, you can follow small paths among the reefs that allow you to reach the various beaches, also offering a great starting point for a walk rich of scents and fascinating sights especially at sunset.

MARINE PROTECTED AREA
The marine protected area of Tavolara, Molara and Punta Coda Cavallo includes about 15.000 hectares of sea and over 40 km of coastal territory, which the bay of Costa Corallina is also part of. It represents one of the most beautiful landscape stretches of Sardinia, thanks to its abundance of beaches and fascinating coves and the variety of animal and coral species that characterize the underwater landscape.

Inside the marine park, the Island of Tavolara undoubtedly stands out for size and particularity, reachable by private boat or through the ferries that are available during the summer months with departure from Porto San Paolo (1 km from the Hotel). Other places of great naturalistic interest are the islands of Molara and Molarotto, low and round, but that contrast with the vertical cliffs of Tavolara.

ENOLOGICAL ITINERARIES
Wine certainly represents one of the most well-known and appreciated food products of Sardinia, where the winemaking tradition has ancient origins and still today represents the main cultivation of the island.

Thanks to its exposure to the sun, the wind and to its salty taste and the particular composition of the soil, the cultivation of many autochthon vines has been developed, that brought about red and white wines of great quality.

Among the white wines in the Gallura, the production that stands out the most is the one of the Vermentino of Gallura, DOCG wine that goes excellently with the great seafood cuisine, while as for the red wines, typical for the Sardinian territory are the Cannonau and the Carignano, that produce wines of great strength and often of high alcoholic content.

For enology enthusiasts and for all lovers of good wine, there are many wine cellars in the Gallura that can be visited and that offer tastings and direct sale of their products. In the vicinity of the Costa Corallina there are for example the wine cellars of Surrau (35 km), Masone Mannu (25 km), the wine cellar of the Vermentino Monti (35 km) and Unmaredivino (45 km).

HIKING, CANYONING & EXCURSIONS
For lovers of excursions and walks at the fresh air, Sardinia offers many trails of different length and difficulty level that are accessible all year round. Among the itineraries that can be covered on foot, in the vicinity you can for example stroll along the lagoon of San Teodoro and the beach La Cinta, you can climb the island of Tavolara or there are hiking trails in the woods of the Monte Nieddu.

For young people and the sportier ones, Canyonings represent a sporting, adrenaline and amusing experience, allowing you to spend an exciting and unusual day, exploring the gorges hollowed out by watercourses and visiting places otherwise hard to reach.

WATER SPORTS
In the small towns of Porto S. Paolo and Marina Maria, just 1 km away from the Hotel, there are several activities for sea and sports lovers in the summer season. Diving: guided diving to discover the wonders of the Protected Area, from sunken shipwrecks to the under water reefs of Tavolara, from archaeological sites to the fascinating sea bottom of the “secca del Papa”, one of the most beautiful dives of the Mediterranean.

Windsurf: at the beach of Marina Maria, located on the other side of Capo Ceraso, there is the nearest windsurfing school of the area. The particular conformation of the gulf of Olbia, that the beach overlooks, and its orientation in favour of the wind, make this location ideal both for beginners and the more experienced fans of this sport.

BIKING
Very scenic and interesting are the itineraries recommended for mountain-bike fans that run along the coast and allow admiring many beaches and coastal landscapes along the way. The Hotel Ollastu provides its Guests bicycles at no charge, in order to reach the nearby beaches, whereas, on request, the more athletic ones can rent professional bikes or e-bikes.

BOAT TRIPS
Without doubt the best way to discover the wonders of the Protected Area, visiting the main islands and sites of major naturalistic and panoramic interest. The first destination of all is Tavolara, the dragon island that rises from the sea and stands out against the blue sky with its distinctive profile, dominating undisputedly the panorama of this area.

Clearly different in shape and height from the other islands, it owes its particularity to the different calcareous composition of its rocks, which steeply fall into the sea. The complete circumnavigation of the island allows capturing its unique shape from all angles, admiring closely its steep cliffs on which you can also see some climbing goats.

A stop ashore on the other hand allows visiting the beaches of the Spalmatore di Terra and of the Passetto. Then proceeding towards the island of Molara, you can admire its famous “Piscine” – a particularly crystalline expanse of sea with turquoise shades – and not far from the wreck of the Chrisso, a cargo ship that ran aground on the rocks in the mid 70s and that still emerges from the sea.

On particularly clear days and with little maritime traffic, if you are lucky, it can also happen to observe groups of dolphins passing through in this area.

Moving towards the coast and heading south there are the “Sassi Piatti” of Cala Girgolu, slabs of smooth granite that flow into the sea like a stream, and, a little further away, the long beaches of Cala Brandinchi and la Cinta of San Teodoro. By reservation, the Hotel Ollastu organizes boat trips with personalized itineraries, skipper and the possibility to have lunch on the islands.

ITINERARIES ALONG THE COAST
Many are the close-by locations, both along the coast and in the hinterland, that can be easily reached from Costa Corallina with a short drive, offering a variety of destinations for itineraries within a day’s time.
