Tradition and ambience
Thanks to the owners’ perseverance as well as the loyalty of the staff the Spa Hotel Sternhagen is renowned as one of the finest in Germany. The Spa Hotel Sternhagen is almost celebrating its 50th anniversary. The former bank clerks Jürgen and Helga Sternhagen built this hotel upsingle-handedly from nothing.

Hotel history with tradition and success
Between the first topping-out ceremony in 1958 and the completion of the current hotel complex with its 1000 sq m Sea Water Wellness area, the main building section and the panoramic wing the buildings have seen no fewer than 15 further topping-out ceremonies as well as regular refurbishments and yearly renovation cycles.

The Panoramic Gourmet Restaurant Sterneck has been awarded numerous times, including one Michelin Star. It offers modern classic culinary delights based on regional produce. We use predominantely organic “Bioland” produce sourced from local farms.

Our Panoramic Gourmet Restaurant “Schaarhörn” offers modern Modern German Cuisine and Wellness dishes. Our natural fresh and often organic products originates from local farms and producers and is prepared by hand in-house.

The day begins with a wide-ranging breakfast buffet Northern Style and you can enjoy the beautiful views across the mud flats, the Wadden Sea World Heritage, beach and shipping lane. We offer you a broad selection of fish amongst all the other dishes you can select from. Egg dishes are produced directly à la minute.

In the afternoon you can take a coffee and cake “break” in our In-house Confectionary, again with breathtaking views across the nature park “Niedersächsisches Wattenmeer”. All are stored at their proper temperature on the 3 levels in our wine cellar which can be viewed at most times.

Natural World Heritage Site – Wadden Sea
The Wadden Sea National Park in Lower Saxony never ceases to fascinate both vacationers and locals. This unique landscape has been a World Heritage Site since July 2009. The Wadden Sea Natural World Heritage Site covers a total area of around 9,750 km² and, with its vast expanses, offers an incomparable experience.

On the beaches of Cuxhaven-Duhnen – which form part of the Wadden Sea Natural World Heritage Site – you can experience the tide coming in and out first-hand. For six hours and twice a day, the landscape is transformed.

Inlets and small streams make their way through the vastness of the mudflats. On the seabed, the North Sea’s great biodiversity becomes visible. Mussels, crabs and starfish share this unique habitat with many sea birds and numerous other animals.

The beautiful, untouched salt marshes between the coast and the dykes are also part of the nature reserve. They form the natural transition from the sea to the land and sometimes become flooded. The salt marshes provide an ideal environment for migratory birds and waterfowl to rest and breed.

For vacationers, the Wadden Sea Natural World Heritage Site is a source of relaxation. Taste the salt in the air, enjoy the smell of the mudflats and discover the underwater world at every time of the year.

The island of Neuwerk is a popular destination for tourists. When the tide is out, you can get to the island on foot or on a horse-drawn carriage known as a “Wattwagen”. If you’re not familiar with the tide times and the markers on the mudflats, you should only go walking with an experienced mudflat guide.

Cuxhavener Küstenheide
The Cuxhavener Küstenheide (meaning “coastal heathland”) is a unique natural landscape that stretches from Duhnen to the small village of Oxstedt, thus comprising the biggest area of heathland on the northern German mainland.

Heck cattle, European bison and wild horses have been resettled and they graze here, preserving the typical natural landscape of dwarf shrubs and grassland.

Wernerwald
You will find this unique coastal forest in the Sahlenburg district of Cuxhaven. But what makes it so special? It is the only forest by the German North Sea coast that directly borders on the Wadden Sea.

Don’t forget to visit the Finkenmoor, the small inland lake in the centre of the Wernerwald. There’s also a children’s adventure playground nearby.

Duhnen adventure golf course
Adventure golf is a new form of the sport and is more varied than the traditional mini-golf. This game is played with golf clubs on grass tracks that are identical to nature and present a range of obstacles, and is also suitable for children.

Covering an area of approximately 9,500 m2, the new Cuxhaven adventure golf course at the “Duhner Kreisel” play area offers fun for all the family on 18 tracks. In addition, there is a playground with areas to play in and play equipment for a range of ages.
