Main Street Boutique Hotel is a unique 4 star hotel in the heart of Ypres, made to surprise and please guests! Enjoy luxury, warmth and a homely atmosphere. From the moment you swing open the door you will immediately feel at home. The red-bricked town house was built in 1938, between the 2 world wars, and was used to sell roast coffee-beans.

In 2008 the house got stripped, re-designed, completely renovated, filled with intriguing curiosities and opened as the Main Street Hotel on the 1st of April 2011! It was quickly noticed to be something out-of-the-box and –although small – became the number 1 hotel in Flanders.

It is a small place, the Main Street Hotel. But there is a lot to see and do. You must have noticed that a free use of your well-stocked minibar is included in the price, as well as free coffee and tea in your room and bar! Yes, I know, this is so nice and welcoming – what a treat!

And on top of this, we have filled an honesty bar and fridge for you to taste some of our local beers, Trappist beers and other specialties that will surprise you! And they are there for you to enjoy in our cosy bar, colored breakfast room or in our cute terrace-garden.

You will find a very nice selection of hand-picked books in our small library focusing on the great war and our lovely town. Have fun to explore the strange items on display and discover the Main Street Underground, continue the international knitted scarf, play some games or puzzle!

Atelier Suite
This quiet room with private terrace-garden has a wonderful big round whirlpool bath with bathroom TV and a large rain shower and star lights above… Just picture yourself in there with a glass of champagne!

The deep purple heavy curtains, the old stove and fairy-tale picture add to the romantic feeling. Although the former atelier-air is not far away: feel the wall behind the bed and admire the original beams!

Glory Suite
This gold and velvet room will blow you away as you open the door! Or how such an unusual combination of colors and textures actually makes you feel happy right away.

The big windows are a delight to look out onto the beautiful St. Peters church and its lovely church garden. And the bathroom has a separate rain shower and that special duo-bath where you can actually sit next to each other and watch your favorite program.

Wild Suite
You reach the second floor and you open the wild room door very slowly, not knowing what to expect… not even the pictures can catch the feeling in there!

But you will have to do a lot of touching: the furry chair ( do the legs look like antelope-horns?) , the wall-paper ( or is it velvet?), the elephant-foot-side-table (is it real?) and even the snake-y bed-board referring to the snake-skeleton on the wall. And did you notice those big seeds on the beam?

Even the bath room will turn you wild: a big duo-bath with bathroom TV and separate rain shower – all in black ceramics? How crazy is this! Even the toilet is black! Will this become your favorite Main Street Room?

Top Suite
You might think that rooms on the Top Floor have these low ceilings that make the room so small… not here! You will be amazed by the height and original beams as day-light shines onto the bright room colors. And when the evening comes, there is that sunny lamp to throw in some special effects!

Once you have met your new friend in there, it’s time to visit the bathroom. Again, the combination of tiles will make you love this bathroom right away. Not to mention the joy of soaking in the Kusatupool with bathroom TV or feeling the power of the rain shower on your skin!

Breakfast
We serve a VERY nice breakfast buffet with local, organic and homemade choices as well as your favourite of our warm dishes cooked to order! It is good to mention any allergies before you arrive, so that we can provide special options for you.

Breakfast is served between 8.00 and 10.00. We can start earlier (7.30) on simple request – not a problem. It’s also possible to enjoy a delicious breakfast even if you’re not staying in the hotel. Simply make a reservation via phone or e-mail.

Discover Ypres and its surroundings
Ypres has a rich past. It lies in the very center of the most important WW1 sites of Flanders Fields. There is a great tourist office with a lovely website that describes both the WW1 sites and the lovely town of Ypres.

There are enough things to discover or do. Go for a calming walk in the charming city centre or bike through the woods and fields of the Westhoek. The city walking route will guide you through medieval alleyways and little parks along majestic houses and monumental city gates onto the green Ramparts.

There are many walking and cycling routes available in the hotel. The Belgian coast-line and other old cities like Bruges, Lille and Ghent are a one hour drive away and within easy reach by public transport too.

The museums in Ypres offer interesting subjects for all ages. It covers our rich history in medieval cloth up until our part in WO1. While checking in into the Main Street Hotel I would be happy to give you some information about the city, its history and its surroundings, only if you want of course.

WO1
Are you planning to fully immerse yourself in the story of the first world war while staying in the cozy Main Street Hotel? In the city center and around Ypres there are numerous sites, monuments, cemeteries and landscapes that recall the four horrific war years.

The Menin Gate is the city’s commemorative monument and the Last Post is blown every evening at 8 pm sharp. A unique moment to remember the 54.900 missing fallen soldiers.
In the area around Ypres there are a number of sites and cemeteries that can still be visited today.

You can also visit the preserved trenches and underground constructions for a full experience. Exploring Ypres and WW1 can be done in different ways; on foot, by bike or even with a minibus and private guide.

  • Camalou Battlefield Tours offers you personalized guided tours by appointment, a total package of the history of Ypres and its surroundings through the ages.
  • Ypres Battlefield Tours organizes private tours and offers a wide range of tour packages, all of which promise a personal touch. These are mainly in English.
