It all began in 1712 with a romantic hunting lodge – today it is a place of wonderful cuisine and one of the best wellness-resorts in Germany. The luxurious property is located idyllically in “Hohenlohe” and is surrounded by a neat 44.000m² park scenery.

It is ranked among the most beautiful hideaways in Germany. You can chose from one of the 66 classy furnished rooms and suites in the historical hunting lodge, the main building, the spa-building, the gatehouse or the garden house.

By the way: we are especially proud to announce that the Wald & Schlosshotel Friedrichsruhe was rewarded with the top mark of 20 points for the ninth time in a row by the prestigious Relax Guide.

In June 2017 it was also rewarded with the popular European Health & Spa Award as “Best Destination Spa in Germany” and 2nd place in Europe. At the “World Luxury Spa Awards 2017” the Resort was honored in three categories: “Best Luxury Golf ResortSpa” in Western Europe, “Best Luxury DestinationSpa” in Germany and “Best Spa Manager” in Germany.

Furthermore the reknown travelling magazine GEO SAISON ranks the Wald & Schlosshotel Friedrichsruhe in its ranking of the “100 most beautiful hotels in Europe 2018” in the category “wellness”.

The most recent prestigious award that we are all so proud of playing part in is placing 1st in the best customer service award in all of Germany.

Sustainable cuisine, comfort and quality – these are our guiding principles. We have respect for the environment and nature and give our best to ensure our high standards and local seasonal produce. Having all our producers sourced locally means it is not too far a drive to arrive. We always get fresh products of best quality.

The rich breakfast-buffet in the morning is already packed with wonderful products from Hohenlohe: delightful fresh bread that was baked at the nearby “Hofgut Hermersberg” bakery, homemade jams of best quality from our kitchen, selected sorts of cheese from local farms, exquisite ham and sausages from local butchers. Those are only a few of Boris Rommel’s favorites.

Our wine cellert is filled with finest wines of traditional wine makers who press the red and white grapes of the wine yards of Hohenlohe – to name a few: Trollinger, Schwarzriesling, Lemberger, Spätburgunder, Samtrot, Muskat-Trollinger or white wines like Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, Kerner, Traminer, Muskateller, Weißburgunder and Grauburgunder.

By the way: Boris Rommel also likes to use the flavorful wild herbs that grow in the garden of the hotel in his dishes.

The History of the Hotel
1612
Count Kraft VI. of Hohenlohe created a large animal park with a hunting lodge between “Platzhof” and “Zweiflingen”. During the Thirty Years’ War the animal park and the hunting lodge fell into the hands of the surrounding courts.

1712 – 1717
Count Friedrich II. (later Prince of Hohenlohe) built the hunting lodge Friedrichsruhe.

1738
A large part of the forest and the animal park gets cleared and farmers settle the free spaces. The village gets called “Tiergarten” (animal park).n.

1750
The name gets changed into “Friedrichsruhe”.

1829
Prince Alexander, son of prince Ludwig Friedrich of Ingelfingen, dies in the hunting lodge in Friedrichsruhe.

1953
The “Waldhotel Friedrichsruhe” (Forest-hotel) is opened.

1963
The number of rooms increased to 55 rooms with a new building and a heated swimming pool is built.

1964
The opening of the golf course (9-hole).

1969
The hunting lodge is expanded to a hotel with17 twin rooms and five single rooms. With this step the “Waldhotel Friedrichsruhe” is renamed into Wald & Schlosshotel Friedrichsruhe.

1973
Lothar Eiermann becomes manager of the Wald & Schlosshotel Friedrichsruhe in December.

1974
The Wald & Schlosshotel Friedrichsruhe gets its first Michelin star.

1992
The beauty farm of the Wald & Schlosshotel Friedrichsruhe is opened.

1994
The golf course is expanded to 18 holes.

1996 – 2000
Renovations all over the Wald & Schlosshotel Friedrichsruhe began. The Restaurant, rooms in the main building, the reception area and the hunting lodge was given a new shine of light

2005
The hotel is taken over by the Würth-Group – Lothar Eiermann stayed as the manager. In the same year the hotel-bar and the fireplace room were emerge as one open space.

2006
The hunting lodge is renovated. At the end of the modern renovations the hotel now has 39 rooms.

2008
The 4.400m² spa with its indoor- and outdoor pool, saunas, treatment rooms and a fitness centre is opened and 27 new rooms in the spa-building are built.

2010
There were six modern meeting rooms opened for business.
2015
Jürgen Wegmann is the new General manager of the Wald & Schlosshotel Friedrichsruhe.

2016
The Gourmet-Restaurant ran by Chef Boris Rommel is rewarded with a Michelin-star.

2017
The gourmet restaurant is being baptized and is now carrying the name “Le Cerf”. This is an allusion to the classic-french cuisine. On 14thNovember 2017 the Le Cerf received its second Michelin-star.

2018
The Wald & Schlosshotel Friedrichsruhe gets the highest mark of 4 lilies and 20 points by the prestigious RELAX GUIDE for the ninth time in a row.

Michelin-Star chef Boris Rommel
Boris Rommel was born in 1984 in Karlsruhe und started his career as training as a chef in the restaurant “Erbprinz” of the 5-Star Superior hotel “Erbprinz” in Ettlingen.

This was followed by many years training under the wings of great chefs in many famous hotels, such as Claus-Peter Lumpp in the restaurant “Bareiss” in Baiersbronn,the hotel “Colombi” in Freiburg, in the “Schlosshotel Bühlerhöhe” and in the “Villa Hammerschmiede” in Pfinztal-Söllingen. His dedication and hard work led to Friedrichsruhe in 2011 until 2012 when he was working as a Sous-Chef.

Since February 2016 he has been creating exquisite Gourmet-Menus with finesse and preciseness. His innovative menus are a skilled fusion of classical French cuisine and regional influences.

Boris Rommel always places great value on premium products with good quality that are coming from the region of Hohenlohe. He also likes to use wild herbs from the hotel’s own cottage garden. In November 2017,

Boris Rommel received his second Michelin star and 17 points in the Gault & Millau 2018. In April 2018, he was named “Rising Star of the Year” by the renowned gastronomy-journal “Rolling Pin”.

Golf Course
Golf-Club Heilbronn-Hohenlohe e.V.
The Wald & Schlosshotel Friedrichsruhe is a paradise for all lovers of golf. Just 100 meters from the hotel, you will find the 27-hole course of the Heilbronn-Hohenlohe e.V golf club. Guests of the hotel play without tee times and receive a reduced green fee.

The well-kept, park-like space integrates harmoniously into the Hohenlohe landscape – an elegant liaison of sport and nature. Fast, well-defended greens, water hazards of all sizes, varied fairways and well-placed tee-offs provide the sporting challenge.

The championship course offers 27 varied course combinations with 27 fairways. The “Schlosspark” course (par 35) is characterized by its old trees, “Limes” (par 36) impresses with short walkways and “Friedrichsruhe” (par 37) is certainly the most athletic demanding part of the course. Each combination has its own appeal.

The offer is complemented by a generous driving range, a putting and a pitching green. With the opening of the Golf Academy in June 2010, eight covered tees were created on the driving range.

These provide protection against rain and snow, and in cool or icy temperatures, the switchable radiant heaters provide a pleasant training atmosphere.

“Golf in Balance”
The golf academy “Golf in Balance” was opened in the Golf Club Heilbronn-Hohenlohe in the summer of 2010. Under the direction of Mark Mattheis, one of the most renowned trainers in Germany, the Akademiehaus offers a golf training with state-of-the-art equipment.

Together with the integrated training concept developed by Mark Mattheis, even beginners can develop into good golfers in a short time.

Four pros are available for training sessions and courses. Using an ultrasound and a radar system as well as high-speed cameras, the stroke technique and the exact speed can be measured and then analyzed together with a trainer.

Two covered tees make this possible in any weather. The use of the academy house takes place exclusively over a booked trainer.

Leisure, culture & environment
Discover Hohenlohe.
The gentle hilly landscape, green avenues, wildly romantic river valleys, blooming rapeseed fields, vineyards and forests – the region around Friedrichsruhe is also called “Swabian Tuscany”.

In addition to the idyllic landscape attract a variety of attractive destinations in the Hohenloher country, for example, the monastery Schöntal, the magnificent Renaissance Schloss Neuenstein or lying high above the Jagst Castle Langenburg with the “German Automuseum”.

A tip for art and culture lovers is the medieval town of Schwäbisch Hall with one of the most beautiful marketplaces in Germany, many cultural highlights such as the Kunsthalle Würth or the famous open-air plays on the outside staircase of the city church of St. Michael.

The region of Hohenlohe has also made a name for itself as a country of enjoyment, for example with Boeuf de Hohenlohe or Schwäbisch-Hällischem Ham. By the way: Numerous organic and Demeter farms sell their delicious products in their farm shops.
