It was in the 1950’s, that brothers Giuseppe, Giovanni and Tonino Esposito decided to enlarge the family’s guest house. As they walked through the lemon grove where today’s hotel is located, they came across a white cat (gatto bianco in Italian) and her brood of newborn kittens.

The day they were due to sign the land contract, a white cat appeared by the bed of their ill father. Another cat-connection? The solicitor’s surname was Scannagatti (cat slaughterer!). There’s been a white cat at the hotel ever since.

Founded by Giuseppe, Giovanni and Tony Esposito brothers, Hotel Gatto Bianco has been a focal point of Capri’s social scene since the years of the “Dolce Vita” on the Capri island. In fact, even though you’ll no longer find Brigitte Bardot draped over one of the hotel’s divans with a glass of limoncello in hand, at Gatto Bianco the Dolce Vita continues…

ROOMS & SUITES
Fresh, filled with light and paved with exquisite hand-painted majolica, Gatto Bianco’s bedrooms have “Capri” written all over them! Despite its location right in the center of Capri, Gatto Bianco is incredibly quiet.

The hotel is set back from the road and all rooms look out over luxuriant gardens. Almost all rooms have a small terrace facing gardens filled with the island’s fragrant orange and lemon trees or looking out over the rooftops of Capri.

SUITE
With two bedrooms, a living room, two bathrooms and a terrace, our suites are the ideal choice if you’re travelling with the family. Each suite sleeps up to 4 people.

DELUXE ROOM
The most beautiful rooms in the house, our recently renovated deluxe rooms are decorated in the bright fresh colors of the sea surrounding Capri. All rooms have a private terrace looking over the garden or the rooftops of Capri.

COMFORT ROOM
The hotel’s spacious comfort rooms have a sitting corner and are large enough to comfortably accommodate a third bed. Furnished in classic Mediterranean style all rooms have a terrace lwith a view of one of Capri’s typical citrus groves.

Right in the center of Capri, Gatto Bianco is located on the elegant Via Vittorio Emanuele which, from the Piazzetta, slopes down towards Via Camerelle, the island’s famous designer shopping street.

The best of Capri’s shops, art galleries, restaurants and clubs are all just steps away. The Piazzetta is less than a 2 minute walk away. Central but peaceful, the hotel is set back from the street, its rooms facing onto the inner courtyard or over the rooftops of Capri.

MARINA PICCOLA
Via Krupp, the panoramic pathway which zig-zags its way down the rockface between the Gardens of Augustus and Marina Piccola, is less than 10 minutes from the hotel.

There are a number of beach clubs in the bay, all with unforgettable views of the Faraglioni. When it’s time to return, if you’d rather not walk back up the Via Krupp, you can always take a bus or taxi back to the center of Capri instead.

FARAGLIONI
Punta Tragara, the viewing terrace facing the Faraglioni, is a pleasant 15 minute stroll away from Hotel Gatto Bianco. From here, a little path winds its way down through the Mediterranean scrub to the beach at the feet of the Faraglioni.

There are two beach clubs in the shadow of Capri’s sea stacks: Da Luigi and La Fontelina. Idyllic places where to spend an unforgettable day by the sea, both have excellent restaurants too.

Don’t worry about having to make the uphill journey home: both beach clubs offer a shuttle boat service, accompanying customers to the nearby beach of Marina Piccola. From here, you can take a taxi or bus back to the hotel.
