A MINDFUL KITCHEN PHILOSOPHY

The Bergkristall cuisine team headed by head chef Andreas Krohn focus on foods that conserve blood sugar levels, thus implementing the glyx principle in many dishes. Wherever possible, local products are used in Bergkristall cuisine and white sugar and white flour are avoided.

The soothing effect of herbs and spices also flows into the gourmet experience at the 4-star Superior Resort Bergkristall. Artificial flavour enhancers, on the other hand, are banned from our creative cuisine.

The GLYX principle
The nutritional principle based on the glycaemic index (GLYX) of food. If this is high, the blood sugar level rises and allows fat reserves to build up. With a low glycemic index – as with less processed, fibre-rich foods – positive effects occur.

Therefore it is not surprising that our restaurant manager, Tobias Reuthebuch, has chosen the vinothek as the heart of the restaurant. Completely glass-enclosed, it houses exquisite wines from Germany, Austria, Italy and other parts of the world – over 300 different wines.

Among them is also the Bergkristall Cuvée, highly valued by our guests and family, made from the grape varieties Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Grigio from the winery Ralf Kühn from Pünderich on the Moselle.

Our wine connoisseur, restaurant director Tobias Reuthebuch, will be happy to help you find the sweet or extremely strong flavor enhancer for your 5-course meal.

Mountain biking & E-biking
Cycle off to meet the wonders of nature. For example, a short tour by mountain or e-bike to the nearby viewpoint “Paradies” and further up to the Kapf and the spruce forest to take in the fantastic view of Oberstaufen before going to the centre and then back to the Bergkristall – My Resort in Allgäu.

Or delight your cyclist’s heart with a tour via Laufenegg to Eibele to admire the Eibele waterfalls on the border between Allgäu and the Vorarlberg Mountains.

Even on a demanding bike tour through the Ehrenschwanger Valley, your tires roll past many natural highlights such as the Big and Small Alpine lakes at the foot of the Nagelfluh chain. We also offer guided e-bike tours every week and are happe to give you tips for your individual bike tours around Oberstaufen.

Water sports at the Großer Alpsee Lake
Paddle boating, stand-up paddling, swimming or a sailing trip with the Santa Maria Loreto: it is only 10 km from Oberstaufen to the Grosse Alpsee, the largest natural lake in Allgäu. And at the Kleiner Alpsee, you can catch some of the sun’s best rays.

Canoeing & rafting on the Iller in Allgäu
Boating fun on the Iller River. Ride the whitewater and waves safely through the Allgäu. The canoe & rafting tours on the Iller are also ideal for beginners, and the fun factor is enormous.

Snowshoeing & fun on the slopes

From the Aktivhotel Bergkristall – My Resort in Allgäu you can reach a well maintained network of paths with 300 km of hiking trails in the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park and in the foothills of the Alps. 28,189 steps to the peak of the Hochgrat. Jsut a fraction of that to the “Paradies” viewpoint.

So everyone can find their hiking destination in Oberstaufen – whether pleasure hike or mountaineer.

Hiking tours around Oberstaufen
Experience everything with your heart: valuable natural landscapes such as moors, gorges, mixed mountain forests, rare animals and plants of our region as well as the lush green hills at the foot of the Hochgrat right at our doorstep.

Hikers simply start from the hotel to attractive hikes but are also quick at other starting points: e.g. in 10 minutes at the Grosser Alpsee, in 25 minutes at the Starzlachklamm and in 40 minutes at the Breitachklamm.

Skiing and snowboarding in Oberstaufen with views of the Nagelfluh, Vorarlberg and Swiss mountains. You will find 28 lifts and cable cars in the 4 skiing areas in Oberstaufen:

Ski resort on the Hochgrat: Natural snow slopes at an altitude of 1,834 m on the local mountain in Oberstaufen. With steep slopes for experienced skiiers and snowboaders, the exhilarating 5 and 6 km long slopes Ahorn Rout and Eibele Route as well as freeriding and deep snow off-piste. Also sunset and full-moon rides.

Skiarena Steibis – Imberg: with approx. 17 km of slopes it’s the largest, fully snow covered skiing area in Oberstaufen: 6 km of blue, 5 km of red and approx. 6 km of black slopes. Funpark for freestyler.

Ski resort Hündle-Thalkirchdorf: 18 kilometers of wide slopes with natural snow. World-Cup venue. Floodlight skiing on Fridays at the Schwand lift, 1,700 meter-long descent at the Prodel lift.

Ski resort on the sunny slopes in Sinswang: flat and wide natural snow slopes, perfect for beginners and returning skiers.

The joy of cross-country skiing is immense: 13 trails lead over 100 km through the picturesque winter world of Oberstaufen. Whether skating or classic – here you can relax and let off steam on the boards. On the Kalzhofer cross-country traileven under floodlight.

Even in spring, the Hädrich high trail still offers the best snow conditions. For experienced and trained cross-country skiers there is also an exceptional challenge in the region: the 50 km long “Superloipe” from the Alpsee to the Waldsee.

Nagelfluhkette Nature Park
The Naglfluhkette Nature Park links the communities of the southern Allgäu and the Bregenzerwald and is thus the first cross-border nature park between Germany and Austria. In the nature park center at the AlpSeeHaus in Immenstadt, the exhibits show the special features of the nature park.

• Stuhrmann Cave: Immerse yourself in 120 million years of geological history in the legendary fissure cave near Obermaiselstein – this visit takes you 300 metres deep into the Schwarzenberg (approx. 40 minutes away)
