Step by step through the picturesque Ötztal Alps. Sölden and the surrounding region are home to a large network of hiking trails inviting visitors to head out into the mountains. For families there are also a number of interesting themed hiking trails.

Canyoning – Slip, Slide and Jump
The Ötztal Valley is famous throughout Austria and beyond as one of the best places for canyoning. This action-packed sport involves slipping, sliding and jumping through canyons such as the Auerklamm, Nederbach and Rosengartenschlucht. Don’t miss out on the chance to try out this thrilling outdoor sport.

Paragliding
The excellent thermals and fine views in the Ötztal Valley make paragliding an absolute must for visitors with a head for heights and a strong stomach. Several paragliding centres in the valley offer tandem flights accompanied by a qualified expert.

There really is no better way to see the region from a totally new perspective! Most flight takes off next to the Gratlift near the Gaislachkoglbahn cable car, which is just a short walk from the Hotel Bergland.

Adventure
There are wildwater adventures aplenty on the Rofener Ache, Venter Ache and Ötztaler Ache rivers in the Ötztal Valley. However, the undoubed highlight for wildwater enthusiasts is the 350m professional canoe course in Ötz. We also recommend taking part in one of the many rafting adventures offered by experienced guides in summer.

Swimming
There is nothing better on a hot summer’s day than a dip in one of the Ötztal Valley’s many natural lakes. There are also a number of outdoor swimming pools in Sautens, Oetz, Längenfeld and Haiming. Two of the most popular lakes can be found in Umhausen and at the Piburger See. Take the plunge!

Gaislachkoglbahn cable car
Its eye-catching design and state-of-the-art technology make the Gaislachkogelbahn cable car a highlight in its own right. It takes just 12 minutes to travel from 1,360 to 3,040 metres above sea level. Up at the top awaits the Ice Q Restaurant.

Aqua Dome Längenfeld
This spa and swimming pool in Längenfeld combines raw nature with modern architecture, pure luxury with total relaxation. Swimming pools, saunas, massages and beauty treatments await visitors to the Aqua Dome in the centre of the Ötztal Valley.

Längenfeld Hanging Footbridge
220 metres above the valley floor and offering majestic views of the surrounding mountains, the hanging footbridge in Längenfeld is just 15 minutes from Sölden and a must for visitors with a strong stomach and head for heights.

Ötztal Glacier Road
The highest road in the Eastern Alps (1,350 – 2,820m) leads from Sölden up to the two ski resorts on the Rettenbachferner and Tiefenbachferner glaciers. It is considered one of the best roads in the world for cyclists and motorcyclists and offers fantastic panoramic views.

Vent
The quiet village of Vent is home to just 150 inhabitants but has made a name for itself as a base for hikes into the towering mountains which dominate the skyline above. Leaving from 1,900 metres above sea level, walkers and hikers can reach iconic peaks like the Wildspitze, Similaun, Weißkugel and many more.

Timmelsjoch – Motorbike Museum
The Timmelsjoch mountain pass at 2,509 metres above sea level is open in summer and marks the border between Austria and Italy. Motorcyclists now have an additional reason (besides the amazing road) to visit thanks to the recently opened Mountain Crosspoint with its Top Mountain Motorcycle Museum.

Stuibenfall Waterfall
During the summer months the Stuibenfall waterfall is one of the best places to cool off with its thundering water masses giving off a fine cooling spray. At 159 metres in height it is the highest waterfall in Tyrol.

A via ferrata fixed-rope climbing route has been drilled into the rocks around the waterfall, giving brave visitors the option to climb around and even over the water.

Ötzi Village, Umhausen
Ötzi the Iceman was discovered in one of the glaciers high above Sölden and dicovered to be over 5,000 years old. In the village of Umhausen there is a mueum open from May until late October dedicated to this remarkable find. A visit to the Ötzi Village is a must during ever holiday in the Ötztal Valley.

Piburger See Lake
At 913m the Piburger See lake is a natural jewel above the village of Ötz at the entrance to the Ötztal Valley. It lies within the borders of what is one of Tyrol’s oldest nature reserves. In summer the lake is popular with locals and visitors for swimming, fishing and relaxing.

Area 47
Area 47 is an outdoor action and adventure park featuring a huge number of sports such as waterskiing, wakeboarding and rock climbing. It also hosts DJ nights and concerts. A great day out for all the family.

Activities in Autumn: Experience the Hotel Bergland During the “Most Beautiful” Season
Everyone who has been to the Ötztal Valley in autumn knows that it is the best time of year to explore this stunning region. Hiking, mountain biking and even skiing high up on the glacier make autumn holidays at the Hotel Bergland an unforgettable experience.

Fresh snow and pleasant temperatures on the Rettenbachferner and Tiefenbachferner glaciers offer those who can’t wait for winter to arrive the chance to get in a few runs early in the season. And at the same time, down in the valley it is still warm enough for many of the classic summer activities for which the valley is famous.

Glacier Skiing
While at other ski resorts autumn is still in full swing and there is no snow to be seen, conditions on the Rettenbachferner and Tiefenbachferner glaciers in Sölden are perfect for an early start to the season. It is no coincidence that the world’s best male and female skiers descend on Sölden every year in late October for the FIS World Cup opening.

Hot events, cool parties and plenty of brand new material to test is what glacier skiing in autumn is all about.
